Creating your MLM Business Plan is a great way to ensure you achieve the success you want in your business. As the old saying goes failing to plan is planning to fail.
Most people get started in this industry and never have a plan. They just wander aimless and is it really any wonder why most end up failing?
Building an MLM business is like building any other business; and no business can be successful without a game plan.
In today’s post I am going to give you a plan to launch your MLM business as well as one to continue to grow it.
The first step of the plan is the exact one I followed when I started out.
I actually learned it directly from Eric Worre who I had to privilege to work with back in 2005 – 2008.
It allowed me to earn over $4,000.00 in my first two weeks and to go on to create a 6 figure income my first year.
So get your pen and paper out as this stuff works and is gold.
Alright let’s get at it.
Video Overview of the Plan
Step 1 – Launch Your MLM Business
The best way to launch your business is to do what pretty much every business does. Which is to hold a Grand Opening.
What you want to do is schedule your grand opening to be within the first week of you getting started in your business. If you did not do this do not fret you can always re-launch your business at any time and have a grand opening at any time.
It is not uncommon to see traditional businesses hold a grand opening months after they open so it does not matter if you did not hold one when you first started. The point is to just do one. Call it a Re-Launch if that makes you feel more comfortable.
Schedule your grand opening within the next 7 days.
Make Your List
Yup make your list. I am all for using cold market strategies as well as the internet and social media to grow your business, but I am also adamant that you need to start out by focusing on your warm market.
It makes no sense to me to neglect or ignore your warm market. Again I created a very nice income from my warm market. Why would you want to leave that kind of money on the table?
Starting out by focusing on the people you know works, it has been building 6 & 7 figure incomes in this industry for years and will continue to do so.
Now you may or may not have a lot of success in your warm market and that is A-OK. That is not the point.
Going to your warm market is first of all great practice for you. It teaches you the basics of how to build your mlm organization.
Plus you never know what will happen when people you bring into the business go to their warm market. If you enroll a person of influence they are going to crush their warm market and have huge success with it.
But if you do not go to yours they are not going to go to theirs. There is a funny thing called duplication in this industry. What you do duplicates. What you do your team will do.
So it is important to build a business plan the right way from the start
Neglecting your warm market is a major mistake many people are making these days.
Now do not get me wrong. I am not saying you will only ever go to your warm market. Not at all. You should be able to get through your warm market quickly. If you are serious and really going after it you can run through your warm market within your first 2 weeks in the business and definitely within the first month.
And once you have then you move onto the other strategies that are going to be part of your business plan.
A List of 100 People
So write the names and contact information of 100 people. Write them out on paper. I actually used que cards.
Now with the people who are local to you, within driving distance are the people you are going to target first. They are the people you are going to invite to your grand opening.
Smile & Dial
Now do not over think this part. This is easy stuff.
All you are doing is letting people know you have started a business and are hosting a grand opening and would like them to come out and support you. That is it.
When I owned a weight loss company I had a grand opening. When I owned a micro-brewery I had a grand opening. Every business does this and it is no different with a MLM business.
So get out of your head and do not over think this.
Simply pick up the phone and call the people on the list, smile and dial baby!
When you speak to them simply say: “Hey George, its Robb here, trust all is well (keep the small talk to a minimum, get to the point, people will appreciate that you do). Listen George the reason I am calling is I have recently started a side project/business and I am holding a grand opening at my house this Friday at 5pm, I would like to invite you to come, it will last about 1 hour. Can I count on your support?”
That’s it… keep it simple, don’t feel like you have to say what I just wrote verbatim. Don’t sound scripted, just be yourself.
Understand that if you invite 20 people, 5 will come. It’s just the way it is. So plan accordingly.
A quick tip to make sure people show up. The day before the Grand Opening call them back and confirm they are coming.
The Grand Opening
At the grand opening itself simply play your MLM companies business presentation video.
Have some samples to hand around after the presentation.
And have your upline video call in to answer any questions your guests may have.
Sign up those who are ready to go and follow up with those who need more information.
Couple of little tricks and tips Eric Worre taught me on hosting an event like this:
– If you are expecting 10 people put out 4-5 chairs. This way when more then 4-5 people show up it looks like more people showed up then you expected which impresses your guests.
– Do not make a dinner. Keep it simple. Remember what you do your prospects will be thinking they will have to do.
– Do not serve alcohol at the event. Keep it professional.
– Do not answer questions yourself, let your upline. Again remember what you do your prospects think they will have to do, so keep it simple.
Step 2 – Call the Rest of Your List
Ok the next step on your business plan is to bang through the rest of your list. This will include the people who did not make it to your grand opening as well as people who are out of town.
Again do not over think this. You are not selling your MLM opportunity or product to them.
All you are doing is seeing if they are open to looking at it.
If they are awesome, get them some information to look at and follow up with them until they have enough information to determine if this is something they want to do.
All you need to say is something like:
“Hey George, I just recently become involved in a side project and I thought of you. It may or may not be for you, but I would really appreciate if you could do me a favor and take a look at it for me. Is that cool?”
Most people will say yes they will take a look at it for you.
So you say: “Great, really appreciate that. The video is about 20 minutes long. When do you think you can watch it?”
They will say tonight or tomorrow or whatever.
So you say: “Right on, I’ll send you the link to the video now. And I’ll give you a call tomorrow at 5pm to see what you think.”
That’s it… and now you simply send them the video or whatever your mlm company uses to present the opportunity. And then you follow up with them at the set time to see what they think.
Fortune is in the Follow Up
Now we have all heard that before, but it is so very true. And it is shocking how many people simply do not follow up. It is stupid and makes no sense.
Success in your MLM business is not about selling. You are not a sales person. You are simply providing people with information, enough of it so they can decide if it is for them, and then you are following up to see if they want to get started or need more information to decide.
So follow up when you said you would.
Simply ask them what they liked about it and let them tell you. If it is not for them thank them for taking a look and move on. If it is for them awesome, sign them up and get them started.
Step 3 – Cold Market
The cold market is where the long term growth of your MLM business is going to happen and you must incorporate it into your plan.
There are lots of old school network marketers who will tell you not to focus on the cold market. This is pure nonsense. The life blood of your business is bringing in new distributors into your organization. If you do not have new people coming in you do not have a business.
And if you have done what I just taught above regarding your warm market you are going to run out of people you know within 2 – 4 weeks.
And now it is time to find new people to share your opportunity with.
That is where the Cold market comes into play in your business plan.
Cold market prospects are simply people you do not know yet!
There are 3 strategies I recommend you focus on for recruiting cold market prospects:
Cold Market Strategy #1 – Living Life
All that is involved here is taking note of sharp people you meet as you are living your life.
Every day we meet new people.
Now I am not saying you should hit up every person you meet as soon as you meet them. Not at all.
What I am saying is live your life on purpose. Always be on the lookout for people who you think would be a good fit for your business.
For example my kids play basketball and football. Guess what there are lots of parents at every game and practice.
I simply get to know these parents. I add them on facebook. I speak to them at the game and practices. And when the time is right I approach them about my mlm business.
That is it. An easy strategy and one that works. You can easily add 5 new people a week to your prospecting list doing this.
I can remember Randy Gage telling me he loved this strategy and built a large business using it.
His strategy was slightly different than mine. He would actually put two coins in his left pants pocket every day. And he would not go home until he had met at least 2 new people every day. Every time he met a person he would move 1 coin to his right pocket. When both coins were in his right pocket he could go home.
Now I do not take it this far, but you get the point.
It is easy to meet people. Instead of intentionally going out like Randy did, I simply keep my eyes open for sharp people and when I come across them I add them to my list.
Cold Market Strategy #2 – Facebook Recruiting
So this strategy is a game changer. Social media is a dream come true for network marketers.
By simply logging into Facebook you now have access to billions of people to prospect for your MLM business.
Now of course there is a right way and a wrong way to go about it and 99.99% of networkers are doing it all wrong and are hurting their business big time.
Most people are simply spamming on Facebook. Posting their product and opportunity links everywhere. Spamming people in groups and on messenger. None of these strategies work so do not add them to your plan and if you have been doing any of these activities stop immediately.
Be Real, Be You
You want to treat Facebook like you would real life.
Pretend Facebook is like going to a party. You would not go into a party and start harassing people about your product or opportunity. No you would talk about different things in your life and their life. You would walk around and meet people and have normal conversations while getting to know them.
Do the same thing on FB.
To start with make sure your profile is not spam central. Remove links to join your business. Remove posts of your products.
Make sure your profile picture is a nice photo of you. Make sure your cover photo is a photo showing your lifestyle, you doing some interesting, fun, exciting.
Pick a Target Market
Now decide who your target market is. Who do you want to recruit? Now go out and find them. Where do they hang out on FB. What groups and pages.
Join those groups and pages and start adding value to them. Post things of interest in them. Like and comment on other peoples posts.
Start adding the people from those groups as friends. (no more then 5 – 10 a day).
Send them a message when you add them. Not a spammy tammy message, but rather a nice to meet you message.
Now on your profile start posting things your target market would find interesting, helpful and entertaining.
Start liking and commenting on their posts.
Have conversations with them. Genuinely get to know them.
Make People Curious
If you are posting like I just suggested 70 – 80% of the time you can now post stuff about your business and product 20 – 30 % of the time.
But not sales stuff. Not spam stuff.
Do not post the silly stuff you see others posting, things like “I am able to help 4 more people lose weight or make money this month”. That stuff is garbage and does not work.
Do not post links to your company, do not post the name of your company or product.
Instead 20 – 30 % of the time post what is referred to as Curiosity Posts.
A curiosity post could be a picture of you taking your new weight loss product and saying something like “Wish me luck I am starting a new weight loss program my friend lost 10 lbs on”. That’s it.
Now every once in a while you could post a follow up to that. Something like “wow I’m really doing it, down 5 lbs in 5 days, and I can’t believe how good this stuff tastes”. That’s it.
Do these type of posts 20 – 30% of the time and you will drive people nuts. They won’t be able to control themselves and will have to ask you what you are doing.
The key here now is to answer them in messenger and not on your post, as you do not want to give away what you are doing to the other people who have not asked. Wait until they ask. On your post simply reply to the person and tell them you are sending them a private message.
Then message them and introduce them to your product.
Very simple and powerful strategy to include in your plan.
Cold Market Strategy #3 – Attraction Marketing
In my opinion any really serious network marketer will have Attraction Marketing as part of their business plan.
Attraction Marketing is using the internet to attract leads and prospects to you.
It is what I refer to as passive recruiting. You are putting a piece of marketing like a blog post or video out on the internet in hopes that someone will reach out to you.
It is important that if you use this method that you also continue to actively prospect using the methods we talked about in this post.
Attraction Marketing is a long term plan with a bit of a learning curve and it does take time to get leads coming in, but once they start coming in it will be a game changer for your business.
This method should only take up about 20 – 30% of the time you have allotted to building your business daily. Spend the rest of the time doing active prospecting using the Facebook and living life strategies we discussed.
If you want to learn more about Attraction Marketing you can do so here.
