There is no question that when you are just getting started your first year of network marketing can be a very real challenge.
Like anything else worthwhile in life there are going to be difficulties, struggles and frustrations.
Nothing is free; everything has a price to pay and especially something that can be as financially rewarding as network marketing.
The incredible lifestyle you can achieve in this industry is not just going to be handed over to you. You have to learn new skills and you have to work for it if you want to make it to the top.
Now having said that one of the beautiful things about network marketing or as some call it multi-level marketing (MLM) is that compared to any other business model out there becoming successful can be achieved in a fraction of the time as compared to most other opportunities and anyone with commitment and desire can win at this game.
In fact, within my first year I was able to create a 6-figure income. I earned the company bonuses, exotic vacations, car allowances, etc. It happened for me and it can happen for you if you learn what is involved in making that happen.
That is what I am going to share with you in this post. I am going to share with you two keys to success to help you get off to a fast start and literally crush it your first year…
Key to Success #1 – Truly Grasp the Opportunity That You Have
If the high failure rate of this business scares you don’t let it. There is a very simple reason why so many people fail.
They had no idea what they were joining when they signed up; they had no idea what was possible or what was required of them to become successful.
They did not go looking for network marketing it found them. Someone close to them convinced them to join.
In many cases a good friend or family member convinced them that it was get-rich-quick. That it was an easy business that would allow them to earn a boatload of money without having to do much if any work.
Most people join with the attitude that they have nothing to lose and they might as well just give it a “try”.
So they sign up, talk to a few friends, get rejected and told no and as a result they get frustrated and quit before they even got started.
The reality of this business is that most people do not make it and it is of no fault of network marketing; it is simply because they did not truly understand the opportunity they had in front of them and did not give it the attention that was required to make it happen.
If you decided you wanted to get in shape and joined a gym, would just joining the gym get you in shape? Would simply going to the gym for a week or two before quitting get you in shape?
Of course not…
If you want to get in shape, you have to make a REAL decision that you are going to. You have to learn how to eat right and than you have to make sure that you apply what you learn.
You have to learn how to lift weights to develop all of your body parts. Then you have to go to work and lift the weights, day after day. You have to put the work in.
You have to learn how to do cardio correctly and than you actually have to get on that treadmill and put the time in.
Same thing applies here…
The Best Opportunity on the Planet
There are hordes of business opportunities and models out there, but none of them provides you with the opportunity that network marketing does.
There is no other means available to the everyday person to be able to work only 2 – 3 hours a day 5 days a week and be able to create the incredible life changing income and freedom that this industry can provide.
It simply does not exist…
There is nothing out there that can allow a person to completely revolutionize their life within 1 – 4 years like network marketing can.
If you make the commitment to yourself that you are going to make it in MLM no matter what and than allow yourself the opportunity to learn what is involved, to learn and develop the skill sets required and than go to work implementing what you have learned, there simply is no way that you can fail.
It might not happen in your first year; it might take you 4 years. However, ask yourself, is it worth putting in the time and energy to completely change your life and live the lifestyle of your dreams 4 years from now?
Those 4 years are going to pass regardless; why not do something now that your future self will thank you for?!?
So lesson #1 is to truly grasp the opportunity that you have in front of you right now!

Key to Success #2 – Learn the Skill Set of Recruiting
What we really do to create success in network marketing is simply share the opportunity and product with other people. That is it.
We do this over and over again.
We start out with sharing the biz and the product with the people we presently know and than when we have spoken to all of them we learn the skill of meeting new people and sharing the opportunity and product with them.
It is a very simple business model my friend.
What could be easier than asking someone if they are open to looking at an opportunity, collect their decision and than move onto the next person?
Now of course there is a right way and a wrong way to go about approaching people about your opportunity.
You most certainly want to learn the proper method of prospecting.
However the point is it is not a hard skill set to learn. Anyone with a desire to do so can become good enough at prospecting to be able to create tremendous success.
Especially nowadays with the internet and social media.
There has never been a better time in the history of network marketing to be able to build a business.
There has never been a simpler or more straightforward method of being able to meet new people and prospect them than using the internet.
Your Goal or Target
In order to be able to build a long-term residual income check your goal needs to be to get efficient at sponsoring at least 3 new distributors into your downline monthly.
3 new distributors per month is all that is required to build a very large team and income.
However of course the more the merrier…
I would recommend you set a goal for your first year of developing the ability to be able to sponsor at least 5 new distributors monthly and 10 is also a very realistic goal.
Recruiting 5 – 10 new distributors monthly will definitely shorten the time it takes you to start crushing it.
- 3 new personally sponsored team members per month is 36 new in your first year.
- 5 new personally sponsored team members per month is 60 at the end of the year.
- 10 per month is 120 per year!
These are very achievable goals if you truly wish to achieve them.
Where You Should Start
Begin by understanding what is involved in the prospecting equation.
#1 – Meet New People:
The first thing you are going to do is meet new people. Starting out you already know at least 200 people if not closer to 2000. So this part of the equation you do not have to worry about when you first get started.
#2 – Become Friends:
The second part of the equation is to develop a relationship with these people, AKA a friendship. Again starting out you do not have to worry about this as you already have a relationship with the people you know.
#3 – Ask:
The third part of the equation is you are going to ask these people if they are “open” to looking at an opportunity.
Notice I did not say you are going to harasses them, chase them, pressure them or try to sell to them. Those things do not work. We are only looking for the people who are “Open” to looking.
Our job is to sort through people to find the ones who are “open”! That is it!
It is as easy as saying the following to your prospect:
“Hey John-Boy, I just got involved in this very cool internet business and I wanted to see if you were “open” to taking a look at it for me”
Keep it simple and fight the urge to try to convince them or sell them.
#4 – Present:
The fourth part of the equation is to present the opportunity or product to the prospects who were open to looking at it via 3rd party tools.
3rd party tools are anything that presents the opportunity to your prospect besides YOU!
You are not a sales person and we do not sell in this business. So resist the urge of trying to sell. Let the tools that have been designed by the professionals do all of the selling and telling for you.
This is a crucial concept that you must understand and implement. Do not present the opportunity to your prospect; let the tools do it for you!
- A 3rd party tool could be a website that walks the prospect through the opportunity.
- A webinar or recruiting call hosted by your upline.
- A Facebook group that is set up to share the biz with prospects.
- A hotel or home presentation.
- A 3 way call with your upline to answer any questions they have or a group chat with your upline to do the same.
Anything other than YOU!
#5 – Follow Up:
The Firth Part to successfully recruiting is to follow up and collect your prospects’ decision.
Is it for them or not? Or do they need more information in order to make a decision.
If they need more information, give them access to a new 3rd party tool.
In many cases, they will most likely have questions. Do not answer them; instead let your upline answer them for you. Get your prospect on a 3-way call or a group chat with upline members.
If your MLM biz or product it is not for them no worries this is just a sorting game, you are looking for those who it is for. Put them in your calendar to follow up with again in 6 – 12 months.
A “no” does not mean it is never for them, it simply means it is not right for them at this time.
The only time you ever stop prospecting someone is if they tell you to never contact them about your opportunity ever again.
If they say “Yes” it is for them sign them up right away and get them started on your company or team’s training and off to as fast of a start as possible.
