In today’s post I am going to answer the question of what is network marketing online and also show you how you can personally use it as part of your business building strategy and easily go on to become one of the top recruiters in your business.
Your success in network marketing business is predicated on your ability to continuously get your opportunity in front of as many interested prospects as possible.
And really that is all network marketing online does and is.
It is a method of building your business using the internet and social media that allows you to get your opportunity in front of a large amount of prospects much simpler, quicker and more effectively then any other method.
It gives you access to a lot more people and it allows you to make contact with them much faster then the old way of doing it offline.
Now I do still believe that everyone should start with their warm market as it only makes sense. And if you approach them the right way you can do very well with your warm market.

But once you have run out your warm market it is imperative that you find strategies to be able to continue to prospect and recruit new distributors.
The old school way of doing this offline is very difficult and time-consuming.
The Way It Used to Be
Before the internet and social media you had to make the time to leave your house and meet people. It was hard, awkward and not that effective.
Yes it was possible and yes people have built large businesses doing it, but nowhere near as many who have now done so using the internet.
Back in the “old days” in order to find new people to try to recruit you would have to:
- join networking groups,
- attend meet and greet events,
- go to trade shows,
- prospect every waiter or waitress who served you,
- go to the mall and talk to complete strangers,
- put fliers on windshields of cars in parking lots,
- and a whole host of other ineffective and painful ways.
It was hard. Been there done that and it was not fun.
The Internet Has Become a Game Changer
Being able to build your MLM or network marketing business online has changed the game. It has evened the playing field. Never has there been a better time to build a business. Never has it been simpler to do so.
Finding new prospects for your business is as easy as turning on your computer. People are literally everywhere.
Yes of course there is a right way and a wrong way to use the internet to prospect.
There are 3 methods of using the internet to build your business that I recommend. I am going to cover all 3 of them in this post and also provide you with links to other blog posts that go into more detail on each of the methods.
But first it is important for you to understand what building a network marketing business online is not, and why most people are failing at it.
What Not to Do
See even though there has never been a better time to build a business and even though the internet has made doing so much simpler people are still messing it up big time.
There is something that happens to networkers brains when they go online and start trying to build their business.
It is like they forget how to act around people.
Most network marketers will jump on social media sites like Facebook or Instagram and go from being a normal human into a spam bot.
They start slamming the links to their business opportunity and products all over the place and become a walking talking bill board for their company.
It’s really nutty when you think about it.
Would those spam tactics work offline?
Would you walk into a party with your opportunity website plastered all over your clothes and face and expect people to join?
Would you go to a party and walk up to people and start yammering on about your product and how much money everyone can make?
No of course you would not.
If you did you would probably be booted out of the party or at the very least not be invited back to the next one.
What you would do at a party is be a normal human being and talk about fun things, exciting things, and interesting things.
You would get to know people and develop relationships and yes when the time was right and if the person was a good fit you would ask them if they are open to taking a look at your opportunity.
And the majority of networkers online are messing this all up and it is why they are failing miserably.
Which means there is a huge opportunity online for people who know how to use it the right way.
So let’s look at the 3 methods of building online the right way.
Method #1 – The Direct Approach
The direct prospecting method uses social media sites such as Facebook to reach out to a large number of prospects to see if they are open to looking at your opportunity.
This method is very much of a burn and turn method. Meaning you are burning through large amounts of prospects looking to find those who are open to looking at your network marketing business or product.
You are working the numbers. You are going to get a lot of No’s. In fact your goal should be to get a certain number of No’s each day before you stop recruiting for the day. The more No’s you get will also mean you will get more Yes’s.
Now do not misunderstand this method, this is not spamming. I have not just given you justification to go all spam crazy.
There is most definitely a right way and a wrong way to do this method…
Your profile has to be set up correctly. How you reach out to prospects matters. Who you reach out to plays a big part in whether you will be successful using this method.
You do not simply contact strangers and send them copy and paste messages. You do not send anyone the link to your opportunity without them first saying they want you to send it.
This is a method that works very well, but it does take having thick skin. It is very duplicatable as you are not taking time to build much rapport. Building rapport can be difficult and not many on your team can do it.

Method #2 – The Passive Approach
Alright so where the last method did not build much rapport with your prospect this method does.
BUT not in the traditional sense. Not in the weird way of asking your prospects all about their family, job, interests etc. I always found it weird asking someone I did not know about their kids.
This method is also very duplicatable and works incredibly well.
It uses a strategy of creating Influence over your target market. Influence is a very powerful recruiting strategy.
You have seen it at work before. Every single person in your network marketing company who joined and quickly shot to the top of the leadership board did so because they had Influence.
They had influence over a large group of people prior to joining your company. Somewhere somehow in their life they had created it.
They had a large group of people who knew, liked and trusted them. They had a tribe of followers. People who looked up to them and admired them.
- Maybe they are a community leader
- Maybe they are a business owner
- Perhaps they are a pastor of a church
- an athlete
- a coach
- a CEO
- a Teacher
- or even a leader from another MLM company who decided it was time to go to a new company.
There are all kinds of ways offline that people are able to build influence over people and become admired and respected by them.
The point is that when they ask their group of people who knows, likes and trusts them to look at their opportunity the people do. And not only do they look at it they take it very seriously.
Now offline it takes a long time to build this type of influence.
BUT online it is a completely different story.
Thanks to the internet and social media you and everyone on your team are capable of using this strategy and creating influence over a large and ever expanding group of people who will come to know, like and trust you and as a result be very interested in your business or product.
It is surprisingly very simple to do and extremely effective.
There are two ways to accomplish this.
#1 – Facebook Personal Profile.
With this method you use your personal profile. You decide who your target market is going to be. And then you set yourself up as the expert in that field.
You accomplish this by posting on your personal profile information that your target market would find valuable, entertaining, educational and informative.
You then go out and find groups and pages that your target market hangs out on. You join those groups and start providing value in the same way I just described that you do with your personal profile. You start commenting on other people’s posts and questions.
Over time the people in these groups will start to see you as the expert in the field. You are starting to create influence with them. They are starting to know, like and trust you.
Your target market will start to follow your personal profile and send you friend requests. Now they are over on your personal profile and seeing all the value you continue to provide on it. They will start engaging on your content and you should engage on theirs.
For every 10 posts you make, you need to make 6 – 7 of them value based. Then make 2 – 3 of them lifestyle posts. Which are you out enjoying life, whether that is out to dinner, on vacation, spending time with family & friends. Just you doing life. Having fun.
And then lastly you can make 1 post out of every 10 about your product or network marketing opportunity.
But and this is a BIG but… do not spam. Do not post the name of your company or product. Do not post the link to your opportunity. Do not ask people to join or if they are looking for an opportunity.
Instead, make what are referred to as curiosity posts.
A curiosity post makes your prospect curious (genius eh)? They are kind of like a preview to a movie. You get a bit of the story but not all of it. It leaves them wanting more. It makes them reach out to you to ask what you are doing.
And of course that is when you can ask them if they are open to looking at your opportunity or product.
Bam! You got them.

#2 – Attraction Marketing
Not many network marketers know what attraction marketing is. So what is it exactly?
Basically it is online marketing for networkers. It takes the building influence strategy we just discussed to a whole new level.
It uses internet marketing to build you a brand. A brand built around you. A brand built around you being an expert, leader, and guru.
It uses internet marketing methods such as blogging, video marketing, social media and Facebook business pages to brand you. To set you apart from the crowd as being the expert. The go to person in your chosen field.
Let’s use weight loss as the example. You are with a network marketing company that sells a weight loss product.
You decide you are going to become the weight loss guru. The go to person when it comes to helping people lose weight.
You could write blog posts about nutrition, weight loss, exercise, diet plans, recipes, etc.
You could do videos on YouTube and Facebook.
You could build a Facebook business page all about nutrition and weight loss.
As you continue to put out content you are going to attract people to you. This is a passive strategy. As you put out more and more content around weight loss people are going to find it and start following you.
They will sign up for your newsletter on your blog. They will subscribe to your YouTube channel. They will like and follow your Facebook business page.
And eventually they will come to see you as the person who can help them lose weight. They will come to see the products that you recommend as being what they need to use to lose their weight.
The same strategy would work if you wanted to target network marketers or home business opportunity seekers.
Put out quality content based around what will help them and they will become to know, like and trust you and eventually decide that working with you in your opportunity is the best option for them. And they will reach out to you asking for information about your business.
It’s an incredibly powerful prospecting and recruiting method. It does have a learning curve and it does take time to get results, but when the results start to come in it is a game changer.
