Network Marketing is a truly interesting industry. Becoming a Professional Network Marketer requires skill sets that no other industry requires.
As a result, it is the great playing field evener.
Meaning in no other industry is the playing field evened like network marketing. It does not matter what walk of life you come from you have the exact same opportunity to create an extraordinary life as everyone else.
There are success stories of people making it big from every single walk of life you can imagine, tall, short, race, country, language, occupation, rich, poor, big city, country, it makes no difference whatever your make up or situation someone just like you has already become a success in a network marketing business.
What is the one thing that is unique between all of these people? They became professional network marketer’s.
That is the differentiator between people who make it to the top and those who fail miserably. They are professionals. They treat their business with the respect it deserves and requires.
Hobbies Don’t Pay Very Well.
You see the majority of people who join a company do so to simply try it. To give it a go. To see how it goes.
They pay less attention to their business then they do their hobby.
If you treat your business like a hobby, it is going to pay you like a hobby. If you treat your business like a professional would it is going to pay you like a business can.
It is really that simple.
You have to work it; you have to learn the skill sets needed to succeed. You have to have a plan of action and you have to work that plan of action daily. It will take you 12-15 hours per week of focused work for at least 12 – 48 months in order to become a success.
Only professionals are willing to do what is required.
You Are On The Right Track
Because you are reading this blog it tells me you are most likely someone who is serious about making it in their network marketing business. You are taking the time to research what it takes to become a success and as a result the odds are in your favor.
In this post I am going to share with you what you need to do and what skills you require to become a success in your business. Then I will point you to other training posts on this site to help you master those skills.
There are 4 steps to become a professional…
Step #1 – Truly Make the Decision
If you truly make the rock solid decision that you are going to become a professional and will do whatever it takes for as long as it takes then your success is not a matter of it, but a matter of when.
If you truly make that type of decision it will not matter how many ups and downs you experience, you are going to push on regardless.
When you push on regardless, you will eventually figure it out. You will eventually develop the skill sets required to succeed.
As the old saying goes, you have to burn your boats.
There is no turning back. You are either going to make it or die trying. That is the attitude all of the top leaders aka professionals in the industry have and it is why they made it.
They stuck around and eventually figured it out. Will you?
Finding the reason why you really want to build a large residual income business is an important part of making the decision to do so.
Step #2 – Get Trained
Do not make the mistake of thinking that you know how to build this business. Again, network marketing is not like any other profession on the planet. It requires skill sets that are unique unto itself.
You will hear all the top leaders in this business tell you that you must be “Coachable”!
I have seen hordes of people come into this business and think they knew it all.
They figured they were a big wig in their last career so they got this. No problem, no need for coaching and no need to listen to other people on how to do this business, they got it.
Sales people are notorious for this.
They mistakenly believe this is a sales business and since they have spent their career in sales and have learned every fancy dancy sales techniques known to man they are going to crush it.
99.99% of the time they fail miserably, they fall face first.
This is not sales, it is sharing, but more on that later.
The point is forget everything you think you know. Come in with an open mind ready to learn the very unique skills required to become a professional in network marketing.
Learn from your up line. Learn from industry leaders. Study blogs like this from people who have created success.
Step #3 – Focus on Recruiting
When you are training really focus on developing the skill set of recruiting.
I cannot stress enough how becoming good at recruiting is the number 1 thing you need to master. It is what we do here.
We sponsor new reps into our business always and forever. You will be recruiting your whole career.
Professional Network Marketers are professional recruiters.
If you learned, no other skill set besides recruiting you would still go onto to become wildly successful.
No recruiting and you have no business. That is the bottom line.
The great part is that developing the skill to be able to recruit at least 3 – 5 new distributors on a monthly basis is not a hard thing to accomplish. Anyone with determination and commitment to do so can.
Recruiting is a simple 6 step process:
- Meet people
- Develop a friendship/relationship/rapport with them
- Ask them if they are open to looking an opportunity (do not sell them, harass them, try to convince them, just ask of they are open).
- If they are open, provide them with a 3rd party tool that does the selling of the opportunity for you (website, Facebook group, conference call, webinar, etc)
- Follow up with them and collect their decision
- Rinse and Repeat.
That is the basics of successful recruiting. Yes of course there is more to it, like where do I meet new people? Which is the question everyone always has and it is a valid one.
There are tons of strategies for meeting people. I always recommend you start with the people you know and then move onto social media.
Using the correct strategies social media can become an unlimited source of very good prospects for your business. Countless numbers of successful home based businesses have been created on social media.

Step #4 – Learn How to Build a Team
Building a downline or a team is believe it or not also a skill set. And it can be a tricky one if you just go at it without any training.
Spend the time learning the psychology behind team building.
The biggest lessons to learn are:
Let people be who they are… Not everyone is going to want to create a 6 or 7 figure income believe it or not. Some will be content making $1000 per month. Let them and do not try to make them become who they are not or you will chase them away.
Create systems to train your team… You cannot train everyone on your team individually.
You need to have systems in place to do the training for you. Websites, team training calls, Facebook groups and newsletters are important tools to create to train your team and build culture.
Do fall into the “I’m a manager” trap… Many people will recruit a few team members and then figure they have it made.
They take off their recruiting hat, put on their manager hat, and try to get the 3-5 people they sponsored to go do the same thing and figure that everyone will be able to do the same thing and the downline will magically grow.
Unfortunately, that is not how it works. You have to focus most of your time recruiting. Remember that is what we do here. You will recruit your whole career.
Enroll someone, point them to the training materials, help them as needed (but don’t let them waste your time) and then get back to recruiting.

- Make the decision
- Get trained
- Focus on recruiting
- Learn how to build a team.
Do those 4 things and you will literally crush it! You will create a truly life altering business that will allow you to live life to its fullest and realize all of your dreams.
