It’s funny how people are always looking for a shortcut and an easy way to achieving success at anything in life. And our business is no different. I can’t count the times people have asked me “what is the network marketing secret that allows people to become a huge success”?
People are convinced that there has to be a reason why the people at the top of the compensation plan have “made it” and why they haven’t.
Now before you click off of this site thinking that I am about to simply tell you that hard work and consistency are the secrets; relax because even though those two things are the main criteria to whether you are going to succeed or not there actually is a secret to success that few people talk about in network marketing.
Having said that I do hate the word secret, because it gives the impression that people are withholding something from you. That your up line is not sharing something with you that they know with regard to how to make it big in this business.
Which when you think about it in network marketing makes no sense.
Your up line not only wants you to have success they NEED you to have success in order for them to be successful.
However, there is a secret as to why some people join a network marketing business and go on to achieve high levels of success very quickly and why for others it takes a long time to happen and in many case’s it never does.
I Am Proof There is a Secret
My story is a great example of this secret.
I did not realize it at the time but a big part of why I achieved such quick success is in part because of this secret.
About 1 year before I joined network marketing I had started a weight loss company in the city where I was living.
We would meet our clients for one-on-one consultations weekly. We designed them meal plans that would help them achieve their ideal weight and we would keep them on track by meeting with them weekly for weigh in’s and encouragement.
The company did very well. It became very popular in the city.
It was nominated as one the best startup companies in the city and my face became somewhat of the brand of the company as I handled most of the marketing.
I did radio shows weekly where I helped the radio DJ lose weight, I did newspaper interviews and lots of speaking presentations at different businesses and functions etc.
So naturally my name got out in the community as a young up and coming business guy and a mover and a shaker.
I started to get known in the city, and I started to become respected as someone who knew about business and was making things happen.
You could say I started to develop influence. I became influential!
And THAT is the Secret
And that right there is the so called secret to fast growth in network marketing.
Influence! Being influential. Being respected and admired.
When you achieve this people come to trust you. They come to see you as someone who knows what you are talking about and they look up to you. They respect you.
They feel like they know, like & most importantly trust you.
And when this happens the people who you ask to look at your network marketing business not only look at it but they take it very seriously.
Which is what happened to me and my brother also actually.
He also got involved in the company I did and the previous year he was awarded the entrepreneur of the year award in our City. So he also had influence.
So when I joined this company and started contacting people I knew to take a look at it, man they listened to me, and wow did people join.
They thought to themselves Robb is doing great with his weight loss company, his brother Rivers is also doing well at business, and they are asking me to look at going into an opportunity with them, I better pay attention.
And they did!
As a result I recruited over 18 people into my business in the first two weeks. And this opportunity cost over $1200 to join. And that was just in my first two weeks; I recruited many more in the months to follow.
In my first 2 weeks I earned $4,100 and change. And created a 6 figure income in only 8 months. As well as achieving a whole host more. You can read all about my story here.
It Took Me a Long Time to Realize the Secret
I can remember thinking I had hit the jackpot and could see myself retiring in only a year, being able to sit on a beach and never work again.
I figured that all of my team members who I recruited would do the same thing I did and that would be it I would be on easy street man.
But that is not how it went. Yes some did very well, but most just did ok. It used to frustrate me that not everyone was able to do what I did and for a long time I could not figure out why.
But eventually I came to realize it was because of this Influence factor!
The people who I recruited who had Influence were the ones that did very well.
The people who did not have influence did not see the same levels of success immediately.
If they were consistent and worked hard at it the success came because people did start to see they were serious about building their business so they did get there, but nowhere near as easily or as quickly as the influential people.
Typically, the People with influence that I have seen go onto have quick success are:
- Business people
- Community Leaders
Basically people who have a following. People who have stature in the community. People who others look up to and admire.
Now I can already hear some of you reading this thinking to yourselves…
Well isn’t this great! Super duper story Robb, but where does this leave me?
I don’t have that kind of influence so I guess I might as well quit!

Back In the Old Days Yes You Might Have Wanted to Quit
So back in the old days of network marketing creating influence was HARD. I am talking prior to around 2008 before the internet and social media became as big a part of our lives as they have now.
Back then you either had influence before you joined your business or you didn’t.
And if you didn’t you had to work very hard to become a success. You had to talk to a ton of people for a long period of time to recruit enough distributors to make it.
Influence was something you either had or did not have.
You could not just wake up one day and say hey I am going to go out and create influence over people.
That was not how it worked. People who created it did so by doing something, somewhere in their lives prior to joining the business.
But ALL of That Has Changed
Nowadays thanks to the internet anyone with desire and commitment can become wildly successful using this same strategy.
There are actually 2 recruiting strategies I now recommend people use after they have gone to their warm market.
Both of them use the internet to create the type of influence (but even more powerful) that I have been talking about.
Strategy #1 – Social Media
The first strategy is a strategy of using social media sites such as Facebook to create Influence!
And man is it a powerful strategy!
A person who has never had influence before in their life can get on Facebook using this strategy and within a day start to create serious influence.
And what is very cool about this strategy is that the influence you create with it is much better than the old school offline stuff. It is much better than what I had coming into network marketing.
The reason for this is what I had runs out. Offline you run out of people you know. And once you have run out of people to talk to you are stuck!
Online is a completely different story….
Online you never run out of people. They are everywhere. There are countless people you can use this strategy with. In fact on any given day it is a simple thing to be able to add 20 new prospects to your list.
Social media was a game changer for network marketing.
It has allowed people who would have never ever had success in their companies using the old school methods to go on and create wild levels of success for themselves and their families.

Strategy #2 – Internet Marketing
This method uses internet marketing to brand yourself as an expert.
Whereas the first strategy is what would be considered more of an active prospecting method, where you are going out and actively building your brand, meeting people and developing influence with them through your daily engagements; this strategy is more passive.
Instead of actively engaging with your prospect you are using internet marketing techniques such as blogging, video marketing, and Facebook Ads to passively attract your prospects to you over time and slowly build a brand around yourself as an expert.
This is an extremely powerful strategy, one I highly recommend because once you gain traction using it your business will change forever. Prospects will literally come to you asking you about your business.
You can get to a point where you can create so many leads contacting you wanting to know about your business and product that you will not be able to handle them all yourself.
But there is a catch! (there always is). And in this case there are 2 catches!
Catch #1 – It Takes Time and Money
This strategy takes time and in some cases money to get going and see any results from. It will take at least 6 – 18 months to get leads coming in.
So if your goal is to build a network marketing business it is crucial that you focus on the first strategy I shared with you. Spend most of your time doing it.
Then with no more than 30% of the time you have allotted to build your business focus on this method.
Over time this method will start to gain traction and you will start to see results and you can slow down on using strategy #1, but never stop using it….
Which leads into catch #2…
Catch #2 – Consider Your Team
The fact of the matter is that this second strategy is not something that many on your team will want to do or will be able to do for the simple fact it takes 6 – 18 months to get results.
People want results NOW!
Strategy number 1 will give them the quick results and is a simpler strategy for them to use.
Long term success in your business is found in creating duplication with your team. Meaning keeping the activities simple so that the person with the least amount of skills is capable of doing them and seeing success. Strategy #1 achieves this.
So focus the majority of your time on strategy #1. Make sure your team sees you work that strategy and get them working it as well.
Then again with 30% of the time you have allotted to building your business start using this method.
And only share it with the movers and shakers on your team. The people who have proven that they are going to do whatever it takes to achieve as much success as they possibly can for themselves.
