Prospecting is the lifeblood of what we do in network marketing. No prospecting equals no business it is that simple. So what are the best Network Marketing Prospecting Questions to ask your prospect in order to increase the chance of them joining your business?
That is actually somewhat of a tricky question to answer because it truly depends on what type of prospect you are talking about.
Are we talking about:
- The people we know (warm market)
- People we meet on social media
- Cold leads we have purchased
- People we meet while out living our life
- Leads we have generated with attraction marketing
- Realtors or business professionals we are cold calling
- Etc, etc, etc…
You see each type of prospect or lead you are speaking with should be handled different from the others.
Now myself I only typically recommend 4 strategies for recruiting, simply because they are the strategies that I have found to work the best.
Some of the methods I just listed (and many others) are simply too painful, costly and frustrating to waste your time with.
So today, I will review the 4 prospecting strategies I recommend and provide you with the details of how to approach them (questions to ask).
However, before we get into that it is important that you understand the following…
Sharing Not Selling
Network marketing is not selling. In order to be successful in this industry you do not have to become a top dawg sales wizard.
You do not have to learn a bunch of sales scripts. You do not have to learn how to handle objections and all of the other sales techniques that people in sales must learn.
All we do is share our opportunity with other people. It is a sharing business.
We accomplish this by using tools that our team or company have provided. Tools such as videos, webinars, conference calls, Facebook groups, hotel and home meetings.
These tools do all of the selling for you.
This is an important concept to understand and implement into your business.
All that is involved in the prospecting process is the following:
- Meet people
- Develop some rapport, relationship or a friendship with them
- Ask them if they are open to looking at an opportunity (prospecting questions)
- Provide them with a tool that does all the selling and telling for you
- Follow up
- Collect their decision
- Sign them up
- Rinse & Repeat
Now that you hopefully understand why you do not have to sell, let’s quickly take a look at the 4 strategies I recommend and the questions to ask with each of them….
Strategy #1 – Your Warm Market.
These are the people that you already know when you first start your network marketing business.
Yuppers your friends and family.
A lot of people are scared of this market and try to find ways to avoid having to work it.
To make matters worse there are many supposed “gurus” out there who will tell you that you do not need to approach your friends and family.
They tell you this because they want to sell you something and they are Dead Wrong!
Every and I do mean every successful downline that has ever been built and that LASTED (survived the test of time) was done so by having the warm market be the foundation of their organization.
Notice I said lasted!
There have been people who have recruited a ton of people; shot to the top on the momentum that created, but like a house built on sand came tumbling back down just as fast.
Why because they did not build their organization on a solid foundation… i.e. the Warm Market!
Duplication is the Key to Your Long Term Success
There is a very important reason why focusing on your warm market is important and it is a concept we call Duplication!
What you do will try to duplicate throughout your organization.
Whatever prospecting methods you personally use your team is going to think, they must also use.
So if you focus exclusively on more complicated and costly strategies your team is going to think they have to also.
But here is the problem…
Most of the other strategies are not as simple as going to your warm market.
Most of the other strategies take more work, more effort, cost money at times and have a much steeper learning curve.
The more you complicate the activities you want your team to do, the smaller the amount of people on your team who will be able to do them or even want to do them.
As a result of this you will get very little if any duplication and your team simply will not grow. And you will have no business.
My Rant Is Over
OK end of rant. Do what you like with what I just shared with you. It is your business after all!
If you want to learn more about the warm market, to include why it is crucial to your business and how to do it correctly you can check out this blog post:
OK so the prospecting questions you ask your warm market are very straight forward and simple.
With family and friends, you have known for a long time, the best approach I have found is to ask them to do you a favor!
People love to feel like they are doing you a favor.
Your goal is to get as many eyeballs on your company’s sales tools as possible. I have found that asking my friends and family to do me a favor and take a look at my opportunity works the best.
It is as simple as saying the following:
“Hey Pete, how’s things? Listen I am giving you a call because I recently started an internet business and I wanted to get you to do me a favor and take a look at it”.
That really is all there is to it.
Now a couple of things to take note of:
Cut to the Chase
Do not beat around the bush catching up with someone. Many network marketers have a hard time with this. They have not spoken to their prospect in a long time so they feel they need to spend time asking about their family, work, and life in general before they pop the question.
Do not do that.
People will see right through it. When you finally get around to popping the question the person will think to themselves “ah huh this is why Robb called me, he wasted 15 minutes of my time just to ask me to look at his business”.
Curt right to the chase. Get right down to the purpose of the call.
If you need to you can even say that to them:
“Hey Pete, how’s things? Listen I know we have not spoken in a while, and it would be great to catch up over a beer or a coffee sometime, but the reason I am calling you today is because I have recently started an internet business and I wanted to see if you would do me a favor and take a look at it?”
An Internet Business
This works great. I always tell people I have started or became involved in an internet business.
Everyone thinks owning an internet business is cool and a smart thing to do.
And guess what you do have an internet business.
Every Network Marketing company has a website, you order your product online, you have a back office. The majority of your sales and marketing materials will be online, either websites, videos, webinars and Facebook groups.
And you will see later in this post that 2 of the 4 prospecting methods I recommend are both internet based.
Strategy #2 – Living Your Life
OK so you have run through your warm market. You have shared your business with everyone you know.
It is time to find more people to share your business with. Remember this is what we do here in order to be successful. We meet new people.
“Living Your Life” is a simple strategy and all that it involves is as you go about doing what you already do on a daily basis start looking for opportunities to meet people.
I am not saying run around like an idiot walking up to complete strangers and harassing them. Believe it or not people do that and they call it the 3 foot rule. Anyone who comes within 3 feet of them they prospect.
No sir, not what I am talking about at all.
What I am suggesting is:
- When you are at the gym be social, talk to the people who are there working out when you are. People are creatures of habit and they tend to go the gym the same time every day. Get to know people.
- When you are at work, get to know your colleagues.
- When you are at your kids sporting events, get to know the other parents who are there.
- When you are invited to a party, make an effort to meet as many people as you can.
The list goes on and on… every single day you have the opportunity to meet at least 2 new people.
Add Them to Social Media
My strategy is to then add these people as friends on my social media accounts, whether that is LinkedIn, Facebook or Instagram, etc.
Now you can continue to develop the relationship with them online and offline when you see them.
When the time is right, meaning when enough rapport has been built and a relationship of some kind has been created you can proceed to ask them the following prospecting question…
“Hey Dougie, how’s things? I’m just going to throw this out there as I’ve been meaning to ask you for some time. I’ve got an internet business and I was thinking it might be something you would be interested in, I’m not sure, it might be it might not be, but I wanted to check with you to see if you would be open” to taking a look at it? “
Something along those lines, I have found to be effective with people I meet either offline living my life or on line through social media, which leads to the next strategy…
Strategy #3 – Social Media Prospecting
You have got to love social media when it comes to building a network marketing business.
Sometimes we forget what we have right in front of us with social media. Take a second and think about what it really provides you with.
It provides you with the opportunity to literally be able to sit at your computer and go out and meet countless people. Prospects for your business are everywhere online. What an incredible tool.
Instead of having to run around your neighborhood and find people to meet you now have more prospects at your fingers tips then you could ever know what to do with.
Now I will warn you…
Learn how to use social media the right way before logging in and trying to figure it out on your own. There is a specific strategy that you want to implement. Most network marketers are doing it all wrong.
The prospecting question I provided in strategy #2 is what you want to say to your prospect BUT there is a whole host of other things you need to do before you get to that point.
I have a pile of different blog posts on this subject that go into detail on how to implement this strategy correctly.
Here is a good one to get you started: Network Marketing Facebook Posts
Strategy #4 – Attraction Marketing
With this strategy, you are going to actually attract your prospects to you. They are going to come to you wanting to know about your business opportunity and /or product.
This is accomplished by using internet marketing techniques and email funnels, etc.
Different people use different tools to accomplish this. Personally, I like to blog. Others will use Facebook business pages and market their page with paid ads, others will do video marketing, etc.
Regardless of what method you use your prospect is coming to you. You are not chasing them. They will actually put their hand up and want to know about your business.
So my approach when someone contacts me or asks me to contact them is to simply say:
“Hey Ricky, it’s Robb you asked me to contact you, what can I do for you?”
I put it back on them. I am not chasing them, they are chasing me. I am in the position of control in this situation.
It’s a powerful way to build your business.
However, it does have negative aspects, which for the most part are, it costs money to implement, it takes time to get any results from and it has a steep learning curve and is definitely not duplicatable. So it is not for everyone.
If it is something, you want to learn more about the following posts are a good place to start:

There you have it my friend you now know the best Network Marketing Prospecting Questions to ask. I am sure you have discovered the questions are not complicated and are very simple in nature.
Which is why they work so well. Keep it simple and just work the numbers. The more prospects that go into your funnel the more people who will join your business.
