There has never been as big of a game changer when it comes to business as there was when it became possible to do Network Marketing on Social Media.
Big and Bold statement I knew…
However when it comes to any one thing being able to improve the odds and even the playing field for everyday people to be able to create successful businesses social media is the king.
In the old days of building a network marketing business your only option for finding people to share your opportunity with after your warm market had run out was to either buy cold leads or get out in your community and try to meet new prospects on a daily basis.
It was possible but it was a hard thing to do…
I know a guy who would put 2 coins in his left pocket and every time he met a new person and secured their contact information he would move 1 coin over to his right pocket.
This guy would not go home at night until he had met and secured the contact information of a new person.
That is no fun and a very difficult way to build a down line….
And the worst part is only meeting 2 people a day will work to build your business but it takes a long time to create the success you are looking for.
Social Media to the Rescue
But all of that has changed thanks to social media.
Now a day’s people live a significant portion of their life on social media; whether that is Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn, etc.
And if all of those go away tomorrow a new platform will emerge to take their place and the same strategies for building your network marketing business that I am going to share with you today will apply to it as well.
As you will see when you use these strategies meeting 2 people a day is cake work and your goal should really be to meet at least 5 – 10 every day and with what I am going to show you that can be accomplished in under an hour of work daily.
This post is going to focus on Facebook because at the moment that is where most of the action is; however these methods will work on any of the other platforms as well.
So what I am going to do is give you a brief overview of each of the strategies and under each overview I will provide you with links to additional training’s that will go into further detail on each.
Social Media Strategy #1 – Burn & Turn
What you will discover is that there are two ways of thinking when it comes to prospecting on Facebook.
In one corner we have the group that believes you absolutely must build some rapport and become friends first before you prospect them for your business.
In the other corner is the group that believes you should just cut right to the chase…
Approach people and let them know exactly why you are approaching them right out of the gate. They do not think you should beat around the bush and try and waste time becoming friends first.
This latter method is what I call the Burn & Turn method.
I stole that name from the old days of cold calling leads. You would “burn” through the numbers on one page and “turn” to the next page and do it again.
Some call it smiling and dialing. Same idea.
The concept is you are working large numbers of prospects looking for those who are interested.
It’s a Proven Concept
There is was a study done with a life insurance company a few years back that proves working the numbers does indeed work.
This company was previously going door to door trying to sell their products by building rapport at the door with the prospect and using all kinds of sales tactics.
The results were terrible and they decided they need to make a change.
So long story short they brought in a guru who changed their approach. Instead of building rapport and using sales tactics he simply had them knock on the door and when someone answered they would say:
“Are you interested in buying life insurance”.
That was it. And guess what happened?
Their sales went through the roof, their results improved drastically. By not wasting time trying to sell and convince someone who was not interested, they were able move on and knock on more homes quicker.
They were able to burn through the people who were not interested faster and get to the people who were interested quicker.
Same Principle is Applied Here
The same principle is applied to this strategy for building your network marketing business on social media.
Just cut to the chase. Get right to the point.
Do not waste precious time beating around the bush sending 20 back and forth messages to people before you ask them if they are open to looking at an opportunity.
Your goal should be to get a certain number many people telling you NO before you quit for the day.
Why do you want to set a goal of getting a certain number of NO’s? Because the fact is the more no’s you get will also mean the more yes’s you will get.
So set a goal per day or getting let’s say 20 No’s. You keep going until 20 people tell you they are not interested.
This is NOT a License to Spam
Now of course there is a right way and a wrong way to use this strategy. This is not spamming.
I am not advising you to simply cold message people and spam them with your business links.
In fact the rule is do not send a link to your opportunity unless a person says they would like to receive it.
When you find someone who would make a good prospect, go to their profile and find something to bring up in your message to them.
Let’s say Mr. Prospect lives in Seattle.
I would then send him a message and say something like:
“Hey Mr. Prospect I know you don’t know me, but I noticed you were from Seattle. I am actually looking to expand my business into Seattle and am I looking for some sharp people to partner with. I thought I would check in to see if you would be open to taking a look? If so I can send you some information to review, if not no problem, just thought I would reach out”.
If they get back to you and are not interested thank them and move on. If they don’t get back to you I might try one more time with them. If they are open then get them some information.
It’s a simple and powerful strategy that works, but you do have to have tough skin as you will get a lot of people saying no to you. But remember that is great because you are going for NO!
Social Media Strategy #2 – Create Influence
OK this is a fun and very powerful strategy for recruiting people into your network marketing business.
It involves setting yourself up as an expert or a person of influence in a chosen field.
Basically you are going to build a brand around yourself. People will come to look at you as a person of knowledge in the niche you choose.
When you have influence people look up to you and admire you and when you ask them to look at an opportunity they not only will look at it but they will look at it very seriously because it was you who asked them to.
Having influence is probably the number 1 little known secret in network marketing. You have actually seen what it can do before.
Remember that person who joined your company out of the blue and sponsored a pile of people in the first 1 – 2 weeks and shot straight up to the top of the compensation plan; they had influence!!
They had influence over a large group of people who listened to them when they asked them to look at their opportunity.
They created that influence somehow through something they did in their lives prior to joining your company. And that is the old school way of doing it, the off-line way.
Community leaders, business people, pastors, politicians, coaches and doctors are all examples of people who would hold influence over others off-line.
And this influence makes it much easier for them to build their business starting out as they have this large group of people who know, like, trust and admire them.
Off line this kind of influence takes years and years to build. However online with Social Media you can create the same kind of influence and even more powerful in a short matter of weeks.
Here is How to do it Online
This is a basic overview of how this works.
You pick a target market. Who are the people you want to recruit?
With this strategy everyone is NOT a prospect. You need to get laser focused on the type of person you are prospecting.
What are their interests? What do they do for a living? Are they a family person etc.
My advice is pick a target market you have things in common with. You will find it much easier to relate to people who you have shared interests with.
I am an entrepreneur, I love business, marketing and internet marketing. My target market would be fellow entrepreneurs, small business owners and internet marketers.
Once you have your target market picked out you need to build your profile around that target market.
- First make sure you have a nice profile picture of you smiling by yourself.
- Second make your cover photo is of you out enjoying life, doing something a person on a Monday afternoon wishes they were doing. You can include friends and family in this picture.
- The third thing you want to do is go get rid of all reference to your network marketing company or product. The only time they ever know what company or product you represent is when you tell them.
- And fourthly go and clean up your profile. Get rid of all of the political banter, religious talk, posts of you being drunk with friends, etc. You want to portray the look of someone who is taking their business and life seriously. Start posting things that your target market will find interesting, entertaining and educational.
Time to Go Meet Your New Friends
Alright now that you have your target market picked out and your profile up to par it is time to head out and find your target market.
This is simply a matter of doing a search for groups where they would hang out. So for my example I could search for entrepreneur groups, small business groups, etc.
Go and join 3 – 5 of them.
Now you will want to go into those groups a couple of times a day and provide valuable content. This would be posts that your target market would again find entertaining and educational.
For my example I could post articles about business. Tips on how to sell more. Training on how to get sales on the internet. Motivational and inspirational quotes and meme’s etc.
I would also watch to see what other people are posting and I would comment on their posts, I would like their posts and I would provide my thoughts on their posts as well as answer any questions they have.
Can you see how by doing this kind of stuff how your value starts to go up in your prospects mind?
You are building a brand as an expert in this field. People in the groups will start to look at you as an expert. You are creating influence!
What happens next is people start to follow you and they start to add you as a friend.
Which brings them back to your profile and you have officially created a lead for your business.
I am not going to get into how you go about recruiting them in this post however the following are posts where I explain in step by step detail how to use this strategy including what to do to get your prospect from your profile page into your downline.
Social Media Strategy #3 – Business Pages
The last strategy is what is referred to as Attraction Marketing. Which at its core is Internet Marketing.
It involves using strategies such as video marketing, blogging, SEO and in this case a Facebook business page to attract your prospects to you.
The same strategy of creating influence is applied however you do it on a much grander scale.
Instead of focusing exclusively on groups the content you create would cast a much wider net across the internet and social media platforms.
Where the last two strategies are what are referred to as active prospecting where you are going out and actively looking for and engaging with prospects, this strategy is passive.
It is passive because you put out this content into the universe with the intention that someone somewhere will come across it and take action on it. I.e. join your business or buy your product.
The more content you put out over time the more leads you will start to generate in time.
This is an incredibly powerful strategy but it takes time to get any traction with. At least 6 months if not 18 months before you start to see any results.
It also does cost money to implement. Depending on what marketing activities you engage in could cost as low as $30 per month or much higher, that choice is yours.
My advice to people who are dead serious about being a success in their business is to focus the majority of their time on one of the two first strategies I explained; then with the remaining time you have allotted to build your business start implementing this method.
Spend no more than 30% of your time starting out on it.
As you start to get traction and the leads start to flow in you can change this percentage accordingly.
You will eventually get to the point that this method will be producing so many high quality prospects for you that you will not be able to keep up with them all on your own.
Now Get to Work
There you have it my friend my top 3 strategies for building network marketing on social media. They work very well as long as you work them.
