Network Marketing on Facebook has become an absolute game changer for our industry. Once you learn the skills and strategies to use Facebook to build your business there will be no stopping you.
To me it seems FB was invented for network marketing. It is almost like God felt it was time to give network marketers a break when he allowed Facebook to be invented. He must have felt bad for us old school networkers who were out every day roaming around town, pulling our hair out trying to meet and prospect new distributors.
Think about it, by turning on your computer and logging into FB you now have at your fingertips access to millions and millions of people. There should never ever again be a reason for you to ask “where can I find people to share my opportunity with”.
The question now is how do I prospect all of these people the right way?
Because there is definitely a right way and a wrong way to build your business on Facebook. No question about that. And if you have been trying to do so with no success than clearly you are doing it the wrong way…
So before we jump into the exact strategies you can start using today to build your network marketing business using Facebook it is important that you understand what not to do.
Do Not Be a Spamela Anderson
I can’t remember where I read that before, but I thought it was hilarious. Do not be a Spamela Anderson or a Spammy Tammy on FB.
This is what 99% of network marketers are doing and it is why they are failing.
People hate spam. It is played out and it no longer works and it really never did.
What is an example of spamming your business on Facebook?
Making posts like the following on your profile or in groups:
- “I’m looking for 5 more people to help make enough money to retire this year”
- “Who else what’s to earn $1,000.00 in the next two weeks”
- “Lose weight now ask me how”
- Constantly posting before and after pictures (there is a time and place for them)
- Posting your company links
- Posting your opportunity or product video. (never let people know what product or company you are with until you are having a private conversation with them, more on that later).
You get the point. I am sure you have seen people doing this and if we are honest we have all probably done it. I know I did in the past and it simply does not work.
OK so you know what does not work, so stop doing it and now let’s take a look at what does work.
The following is a game plan you can start using today to build and recruit distributors into your network marketing business using Facebook.
Strategy #1 – Setting up Your Facebook Profile
The first step is to give your profile a makeover.
Go through all of your posts and pictures and get rid of any that are:
Spammy. No product links, no opportunity links, no mention of your company, etc.
Vulgar, unprofessional. You want to come across as a serious business person. Someone people want to join, so get rid of the beer chugging pictures, vulgar jokes, etc.
Games. I really enjoy unwinding playing games. But you have to get them off your profile. If you are a big candy crush player and you are posting it and adding people to the game, no one is going to see you as a serious business builder.
Change Your Profile Picture
Next you are going to change your profile picture. It needs to be of you.
No pictures of your cat. No quotes. No pictures of beaches, cars, logos, etc. Only You.
You do not have to go and get one done professionally or anything. Just make sure it a nice picture of you smiling.
Change Your Cover Photo
Next change your cover photo.
Again no logos, products, company name, etc. Your cover photo needs to be you living life.
It can have your family in it with you if you like. It should be you and/or you with your family out having fun, living life, on vacation, hiking, sailing, skiing. Whatever shows you enjoying life.
Change Your Featured Photos
On the left column of your profile there is a section for featured photos.
If you do not control this Facebook will. Meaning you need to choose which photos go there or FB will for you.
Mix them up. Have some showing you having fun. Have some showing you presenting if you have presented. Have some showing you with family.
Use this space to show people who you are.
Intro and Bio Section
Keep these areas simple.
Keep people guessing what you do so they have to ask you. Do not put links or names to your company or opportunity.
You can say something like you are an entrepreneur, an online entrepreneur, an internet marketer, a lifestyle coach. Etc. Take a look at my Facebook profile to get a better idea.
OK your profile is set up, now it is time to get out and find some prospects for your business…
Your Ideal Prospect for Your Network Marketing Business
Before you can recruit your ideal prospect you need to know who they are. This is called your target market.
Now the old school network marketers will tell you that anyone with a heartbeat is a prospect. And while I believe this to be true when you are going after your warm market, it is not true when you are cold market recruiting and it is definitely not true on Facebook.
You need to know the exact type of person you want to attract and recruit into your downline.
This is where you come into play. I cannot tell you who your target market is. That is up to you.
Lots of times your ideal target market is actually You. People just like you.
This is because it will make it easier for you to relate to them and have conversations with them.
What are you interested in?
- Health and wellness
- Personal Development
What do you have experience in?
- Real Estate
- Weight Lifting
What you are trying to do here is figure out exactly what the type of people you want to recruit look like. Who are they?
Once you know who they are we are going to go out and find them.
Where to Find Your Prospects on Facebook
Alright so you know who you want to target to recruit now let’s go out and find them.
What you want to do is locate 3 – 5 groups or pages where your target market would hang out on facebook.
Just do a search in the search bar. If you want to find people interested in weight loss simply type weight loss in the search bar and look at the groups and pages that facebook provides you with.
Groups with at least 100,000 people seem to work best. Take a look at the group and make sure there is activity going on. Make sure people are active, posting, commenting and having discussions.
If the groups appear to be mostly filled with spam, don’t join, move onto the next one.
There are thousands of groups on every and any topic.
Daily Method of Operation in Groups
Once you have found the groups you want to get involved.
Become a person of influence. A person people will like and admire.
People are going to join your network marketing business because they know, like and trust you.
In a group you get your prospects to know, like and trust you by posting value.
Posting information they will find useful, helpful and entertaining.
This does NOT mean post your product or opportunity. Oh No!
Let’s use the weight loss example again.
Instead of posting links or photos to your product, post weight loss tips, post healthy recipes, post exercise routines and tips, inspirational and motivational stuff, as well as your weight loss story and results in a non spammy way.
You will also want to like and comment on other people’s posts.
Be a human, be yourself. Do not act all sketchy, spammy and salesy. Just be normal. Provide value, interact and have fun.
What will happen as you start to provide value and interact is other people in the groups will notice. They will start to follow your profile and they will start to add you as a friend.
Accepting Friend Requests
Alright so if you do what we just talked about people will start adding you as friends.
Do not just accept every friend request you get.
Instead go and look at their profile. Do they look like the type of person you want to work with? Are they upbeat and positive?
Does it look like they are active on their profile?
Once you have determined that they would indeed be a good prospect accept their friend request and send them a quick message.
You want to get conversations going. Not sales pitches, but conversations. Normal people conversations, not spammy network marketing sales pitches.
Say something like: “Hey George, thanks for the friend’s request, good to meet you on here, how’s things?”
After you have been providing some value in the groups and liking and commenting on other people’s posts you can start to add people as friends.
Again do not just go randomly adding people as friends.
You want to make sure the person will be a good fit for your business. You want to make sure they are upbeat and positive. That they are active on Facebook. And that you have things in common.
Once you decide you have found a good prospect, send them a friends request and also a message.
Again saying something like: “Hey Pedro we are both in blah blah group, really enjoyed your comment about blah blah, sent you a friends request and looking forward to connecting, cheers”
Do not send any more then 5 – 10 friends requests per day or you may end up in FB jail.
Daily Method of Operation on Your Profile
Alright so now you are starting to develop a following on your profile.
What you now want to do is present yourself as being a person of influence. A person people find interesting and helpful. People are going to get to know like and trust you by what you do daily on your profile.
Remember you have a target market. So you are going to post things of value to that target market. Things they will find helpful, informative and entertaining.
Very similar to what you were doing in the groups.
Post 1 – 2 times a day.
If you are posing 10 times in a week you will want to post value based information around 6 times.
The next type of posts you are going to make are lifestyle posts.
Posts of you out living your life, having fun, doing life. Selfies work great. They could be pictures of you at your kids sporting event, out to dinner, hiking, on vacation, enjoying nature, boating, skating. You get the idea. Post like this 3 – 4 times out of 10.
And lastly because you have provided value and lifestyle posts; what you are now permitted to post is a business or product post.
This will be 1 time for every 10 posts or so. It’s not a strict guideline, it could be twice for every 8 posts. Whatever ends up working for you. The point is post value and lifestyle the majority of the time.
Now the key here is that when you make a post about your network marketing business or product you are still not spamming.
Instead what you are going to do is create curiosity.
Remember the rule, never post the name of your company or product.
A curiosity post could be you posting a picture of you holding up your weight loss product with tape over the name of it.
You could say something like: “Wish me luck, I am going for it, time to lose those extra 20 lbs., really excited to take start this program my friend lost 10 lbs on in two weeks”.
That is it.
Curiosity Killed the Cat
Not knowing what you are doing will drive people crazy. Curiosity is powerful.
Now what will happen is people will be curious. What the heck is this weight loss product? And they will ask you what it is.
Do not answer them on the post. Instead on the post say: “Hey Judy I have sent you a private message”.
This will drive other people crazy.
Now send Judy a PM and say something like: “Just following up on your comment on my post, just curious would you like some information on the product I am taking”?
If they say yes then walk them through whatever product presentation your network marketing company or upline uses.
And now all you do is continue to put out curiosity posts over time about your experience on the product or the experience of other people on the product.
You could congratulate other people who have lost 5 lbs., 15lbs, etc. Give them a shout out.
Update your profile on how much you have lost, how much energy you now have, how excited you are that you can fit into your old jeans, how great it is to have purchased a bikini for the first time in years, etc, etc etc.
Well What About Business Posts?
And of course you can do the same thing with your business opportunity.
You can say: “Here we go, wish me luck, I have just started a side gig that a buddy of mine is crushing it with, thanks to this he was able to take his family on the first vacation in 5 years, can’t wait”.
People will be curious. People will want to know what you are doing. Handle them the same way as I just outlined regarding the product.
Update them moving forward on your progress. “Wow I just made my first $100 commission, this is really working”.
Take a picture of you at a company event and say “fired up to be learning some incredible business tips from some of the best”. Or just got off a training call, man crazy the success people are having”.
Share other people’s success with your business, etc etc.
Continue to create curiosity and people will want to know more.
Reach Out To Prospects
You cannot just sit back and let people come to you.
You also need to go to them.
The first thing you will want to do is every day when you log into Facebook look through your news feed and engage with your friends posts. Like what they post and comment on their posts.
Now as you start to build a relationship through their posts, your posts and the messages you are sending back and forth in messenger you can transition to seeing if they are open to your network marketing business.
Simply send them a message like: “Hey Peter it’s been cool connecting with you on here. I’m just curious, I have a side project I thought you might be interested in, if you are open to taking a look I can send you some information, if not no big deal, cheers”.
Most people will be open and if they are walk them through the process your company or upline uses to present your opportunity to people.
What is powerful about using this strategy is the more you post the way I have outlined the more people will see it and become curious and interested and when the time is right for them they will reach back out to you and you can always follow back up with them in 3, 6 months to see if they are now open to taking a look.
