A serious congrats to you for taking the time to research this topic. Focusing on your warm market is the foundation of any successful network marketing or MLM business. And using a Network Marketing Memory Jogger is a great strategy to be able to create a significant list of prospects to start out with.
Most people are duped into thinking they do not need to approach the people they already know about their business. They are fooled into thinking that they can simply build a business by jumping on the internet and posting their website links all over the place and/or soliciting complete strangers.
Nothing could be farther from the truth. Yes, there is a time and a place to work the cold market, but the foundation of your business must be your warm market, i.e. the people that you already know.
Here is a blog post that explains the importance of including the warm market into your business plan:
How to Build a Multi Level Marketing Business
250 Names Was the Start to a 6 Figure Income
I am a huge fan and advocate of the warm market. When I was starting out, I focused exclusively on the people I knew.
I sat down and created a list of 250 people and that resulted in me being able to create a 6 figure income in my first 8 months.
Most successful downline were created the same way.
The people you know already are a much higher quality of prospects than the people you do not know. So make sure before you move to the cold market that you exhaust your warm market completely.
Yes you will have to move to cold market strategies eventually in order to continue to add new personal recruits into your business, but you and your team most definitely want to start with your existing market.
So let’s get at it…
Don’t Prejudge People
A quick tip before I show you what I used as a memory jogger is to not prejudge people.
We have a tendency to make the decision if our opportunity is for someone or not; without even asking them. We prejudge them.
Many times this is because we are afraid to share our opportunity with the person. Do not do that.
Trust me the people you think will join will not and the people you don’t think will join will not only join but they will become some of your best producers.
You never know who will join and you never know who will become your top producers.
Your job at this point is to simply get names on a paper.
And as you will discover as you go through this process, people are everywhere.
The fact is that most people know hundreds and hundreds of people.
Alright let’s get into the following are the tools that I used to jog memory and create my lists of warm market prospects…
#1 – Who Immediately Pops into Your Head
Just start writing down the names of the people who pop into your head.
Start here. You will be able to think of a ton of people without any outside help at all.
Get those people down first.
#2- Recite Your ABC’s
Start banging through the alphabet my friend.
Who do you know who’s name starts with A?
Who do you know who’s name starts with B?
Go all the way through the alphabet doing this. You will come up with a pile of names doing so.
#3 – Social Media
Social media sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram, etc have become a game changer for the network marketing industry for a whole host of reasons.
Never has it been easier to meet new people and prospect them because of social media.
I highly recommend that after you have shared your business opportunity with all of your friends that you start learning how to prospect on social media; and than get your team doing the exact same thing.
I have all kinds of training on this site to learn how to use this strategy the right way.
I highly recommend that you spend the time learning to do it right because most networkers are doing it completely wrong and are destroying their chances of having success.
Here are a couple places you can start:
Set up a Social Media Recruiting System
But for this exercise of coming up with names for your warm list all you are going to do is go through your existing friends list on your social media account.
Write those names down.
#4 – Social Media Friends of Friends
We are not quite done with social media as a memory jogger yet.
After you get the names off all of your friends down on your sheet(s) of paper you are now going to go look at all of the friends your friends have.
Head over to the profile of each one of your friends and start scrolling through their friends list. Who do you know? Write them down.
#4 – School Year Books
This was a big source of names for me.
I dug out all of my old year books from elementary school, junior high school, high school and university.
I scoured through all of the pages and wrote down everyone I knew.
#5 – Photo Albums
I know that photo albums are becoming a thing of the past due to social media and most people storing their photos on their phone or in the cloud; which in my opinion is a real shame.
I love looking at old photo albums, there is just something nicer about looking at pictures in a photo album verses scrolling through your phone.
Anyhow…
The point is that you probably do have some old photo albums kicking around your home. Take a walk down memory lane and flip through them. Write down the names of everyone you see in the pictures.
#6 – Online Photos
And yup since we are all now storing our photos on social media, our phones or the cloud, do the same thing here.
Scroll through all your pictures online. You will come up with a pile of names doing this.
#7 – Contacts in Your Phone
Over the years, we have all collected scores of contacts in our phones.
For most people the contacts in our phone alone would result in a list of well over 100 – 200 people.
Start scrolling through your phone contacts and getting their names down on your paper.
#8 – Email Contacts
Same thing goes for your email account.
Head over to your address book in your email, it will be a great source of names for you.
Make sure to check ALL of your email accounts.
I know personally I have 3. I have an outlook account as well as two email accounts; check the address book in them all.
#9 – Phone Book
OK this is a fun activity that will result in a pile of names for you.
Scroll to the back of the phone book, the yellow pages where it lists all of the businesses.
Start going through each business and write down the names of people you know who work in each type of business listed.
Who do you know that is an accountant?
Who do you know that is a baker, banker, and barber?
Who do you know that is a car dealer or sells card, etc.
This is a great method of jogging your memory that network marketers have used for years and it works very well.
#10 – Business Cards
If you are in a profession that you give out your business card and collect business cards than you will find a ton of prospects in all of the business cards you have collected over the years.
I was an entrepreneur prior to getting into network marketing and I attended many chamber of commerce events, and trade shows, etc. I had a shoe box filled with business cards.
Everyone person I collected a business card from over the years got a call from me.
Typically people who give out business cards to other people are either in business for themselves or in sales and as a result make for some pretty decent prospects as they are movers and shakers, i.e. highly motivated people.
#11 – Christmas Card List
I am personally terrible at sending out Christmas cards. I should be better at it but I simply am not good at it.
However, some of you reading this send out a pile of Christmas cards each year. Every one of those people receiving a card from you is a prospect who should be on your list.
And the opposite is also true. The people who send you Christmas cards each year also need to be on your list!
#12 – Where Do You Spend Your Money?
Who do you give your money too? Who gets your business?
I am talking about your hairdresser, plumber, electrician, accountant, mechanic, Realtor, esthetician, etc.
Whoever you give business to should be open to listening to you about your business. If they are not open to listening to you about your business, it is time to go find someone new in their field who will be.
If my barber did not at least look at my business, I would go find a new barber who would.
Follow your money; those people need to be on your list.
Start Writing that List
And there you have it my friend. Go through those 12 memory jogging steps and you will have a serious list on your hands. One that will allow you to create some serious momentum if approached the right way.
