I very quickly learned early on in my network marketing career that leads were the lifeblood of your business. No leads equals no business.
But buying leads can be costly, so how does one go about getting Network Marketing Leads for Free?
Today’s post I am going to show you 11 powerful methods to go about doing that.
First off let me say that there is no company or some magical lead genie that is just going to give you a pile of leads for free.
If you happen to find someone or something that claims to do that, I can assure you the leads will turn out to be garbage and a complete waste of your time.
The only way you can get free leads for your network marketing or MLM business is to go out and generate them yourself.
So in reality they are not free. You may not spend any money on them, but you will spend time and energy generating them.
There are two pieces of good news with this:
- Learning how to create your own leads is not hard
- Leads you create on your own are by far the most qualified and best leads you could ever work.
Alright let’s jump into this and get you rolling…
#1 – Warm Market:
You always want to start your business off by approaching the people you already know. These are high quality leads. They already know you and hopefully they like & trust you.
As a result the majority of them will take a look at an opportunity when you ask them to do you a favor and do so. And in the end that is your goal. To simply get people looking at the opportunity.
Learn how to work your warm market for maximum profit here:
#2- Referrals From Your Warm Market:
I have recruited some great team members by asking people who said no to the business whether they knew of anyone who might be interested.
People are always happy to do you a favor and give you a few names of people who they think might be interested.
#3 – Network Marketing Events:
Every town or city has a chamber of commerce or a board of trade.
These organizations put on events designed for people to get together and network. Meet and greet functions. Attend them with the goal of meeting and getting to no people.
Do not attend them to try to recruit people right there on the spot. Add the people you meet to your social media accounts to further develop the relationship.
#4 – Trade Shows:
You can either put a booth in yourself or you can simply attend the trade show and go meet all of the business people working the booths.
If you are putting a booth in I recommend that have a draw of some sort where you will collect business cards or contact information from people. Call every single one of them after the event, not just the winner.
Either way walk around the show, go to each booth, collect business cards from everyone. Reach out to them either by phone or email after the event.
I again recommend adding them to your social media account to further develop the relationship.
#5 – Professionals:
This strategy takes a bit more courage and is for the super go getters out there. I have done it and have had success doing it and the quality of the lead you generate for your network marketing is top-notch.
Pick up your phone book or do a search online for either realtors, car salesmen, mortgage brokers or any other professional you think would make for a great leads.
Realtor.com is a great place to find realtors all across the US.
Call them up, introduce yourself and let them know you are looking to expand your internet business into their area and wanted to know if they would be open to taking a look at it.
It’s a numbers game like any other recruiting method, but when you recruit 1 of these professionals they are worth 10 normal leads, because they are go getters and know a ton of people.
#6 – Business Cards on Cork Boards:
This is another way to get high quality leads for free. It is very similar to #5.
The people who leave their business card on cork boards are typically entrepreneurs so they make for a great prospect for your business.
Do not take their card, leave it on the board as they have it there to generate business. Instead take a photo of it with your phone or write their contact information down. Approach them the same way you would the leads in #5.
#7 – Your Facebook Profile:
Facebook is a great way to reconnect with the people you have met throughout your whole life. Start searching for people you know or knew and add them as friends.
You can also go and look at the people your friends have as friends, add any you know.
Now rebuild the relationship you had by messaging, commenting, liking their stuff and just being a human.
When the relationship has somewhat been reestablished approach them like you approach your warm market leads. Simply ask them if they are open to taking a look at an opportunity.
#8 – Facebook Suggested Friends:
Facebook will also start suggesting people to you that they think you should become friends with. Don’t just start randomly adding them as friends.
Go and take a look at their profile, do they look like a good prospect for your network marketing business? Are they upbeat and positive. Are they active on Facebook?
If so, like their profile picture, send them a friend request and also send them a message introducing yourself. Keep it simple:
“Hey Rebecca, Facebook suggested we become friends, so I sent you a friend request, I loved your post about the hiking trip you went on, how’s things”.
Again do not hit them up with your mlm business until some rapport and/or a friendship has been created.
#9 – Facebook Groups:
Groups are a great place to meet leads for free. Pick 3- 5 groups that you have an interest in. If you like sailing go join some sailing groups. If you like hiking, join hiking groups, etc.
Now get into those groups and interact:
- Provide value.
- Comment on other peoples posts.
- Answer questions they have.
- Post things the other members of the group will find interesting.
- Like their posts, etc.
People will start to send you friend requests and as you get to know people you can send them friend requests. If someone sends you a friend request, as you are accepting it be sure to message them also and start the conversation.
If you are sending them friend requests be sure to again like their profile picture, put a comment under one of their comments in the group saying: “Hey Barbara sent you a private message”.
Then send them a friend request and a private message saying something like:
“Hey Barbara it has been great getting to know you in the group, sent you a friend request, how’s things.”
Now just go to work building the relationship and rapport.

#10 – Sporting Events for Your Kids:
This is part of what I call living life prospecting and it is a great way to get network marketing leads for free.
While you are out living your life day to day simply look for opportunities to meet people. Sporting events for your kids is a great example. I have 4 kids. 3 of them are still heavily involved in sports and dance.
At every practice, game and dance recital there are other parents there also. I simply strike up a natural conversation, get to know them over time, add them to my social media account and become friends.
Looking for sharp people while just living your life as you already are is an easy way to generate at least 20 – 30 new leads for your business per month.
#11 – Attraction Marketing:
This is a strategy that has been around the MLM industry now for about 15 or so years.
The basics of it are using internet marketing techniques to attract prospects to you wanting to learn about your business. All of the other methods we talked about today are what I would call active prospecting methods. You are actively going out and generating leads.
This strategy is passive lead generation.
You create content such as social media ads, blog posts, Instagram posts, YouTube videos that are designed to get prospects interested in your business.
As you continue to create content on a daily basis you will start to have leads reaching out to you asking about your opportunity.
You can learn more about that strategy here:

If you want to start implementing it I recommend you learn from these guys here.
There you have it my friend, my top 11 ways to get network marketing leads for free. Pick 3 – 4 of them, put them into action and you will have more people to share your business with on a daily basis then you can handle. (great problem to have!)

This is really interesting. I remember when I first got started in Network Marketing I only contacted the people on my warm list who I thought would be interested. They were happy to look but didn’t want to join. One of the first lessons I learned was that the people you think will be interested aren’t, but very often the people you think won’t be interested are!
I like your strategy of contacting professionals. Often we target regular folks and expect them to turn into superstar entrepreneurs (which can happen) but you have more chance of finding action takers with this strategy.
I also like your Facebook Group strategy of building relationships with like-minded people to expand your contacts.
Looking forward to checking out more of your posts.

You got it Jean. It is uncanny how the people you never think will want to build the business turn out not only wanting to but being some of your best producers!
Great informational post! These are some great free ways to get leads not just for Network Marketing but for any business. I especially like number 11 because it helps to make you a leader and/or expert in your industry. It also teaches you other skills like writing and how to do YouTube videos. Thanks for sharing these 11 ways to generate leads.

Your welcome man. And yes tip 11 is powerful once you get traction with it.
No leads are free, that’s true, all of them require some time that you have to put in. I liked your facebook tips. I am not often on Facebook, I always use Twitter and also Instagram, but maybe I should give FB another chance 😉
Leaving my cards in busy public places, on a cork board, is also a great idea. It will get lots of views, probably more than on social media sometimes 🙂
And networking always helps, making contacts, new friends who in time will trust you more and turn to you for the products you are offering

It does not hurt to leave your cards on cork boards, but it is a better strategy to call the people who have left the business cards. They are typically professionals and make for good prospects.
