Believe it or not the topic of whether you should get a network marketing business coach can be quite a controversial topic.
The reason for this is that some uplines are extremely very protective of their teams. They only want their distributors learning how the business is built from them.
In fact they can get quite testy when their downline members learn different methods to build then what they are teaching.
I’ve even heard tell of some uplines kicking people out of team events because they are learning marketing strategies that the leader does not approve of.
So you have to watch out for that and in fact whether a leader or team allows you to explore other ways of building your MLM business is actually something you might want to know before you join any team.
To be honest I actually do I understand both sides of this argument.
I understand that as an entrepreneur the need and desire to go out and learn different strategies to build your business.
And I also understand the rationale for an upline wanting to keep you within the team fold and protect you from what they perceive to be distractions and strategies that are a complete waste of time and that could potentially lower your chances of success.
Do You Really Need a Coach or Not?
My own personal opinion on this topic comes from my own experience.
When I first started out in network marketing my upline at the time only taught warm market strategies. Recruiting the people that you knew and then getting out in your community and meeting new people.
Now in fairness this was back in 2005 so social media and the internet was not what it was today by any means. Times have changed and although I do not work with this upline any longer I have noticed that they do now embrace some social media methods.
But I digress, back to my story…
So what happened to me was I saw some really good success right out of the gates following their tactics or prospecting the people I knew. In fact, I created a 6 figure income doing what they taught. You can read about my story here!
However just like what happens to everyone single person in the direct sales industry, no matter if they have success in their warm market or not; they eventually run out of people they personally know to share the business with.
Now it is important for you to understand that a part of my success was based on the fact, I got into serious action.
I spoke to a lot of people daily. And as such a ratio formed. Meaning I knew that if I talked to X amount of people then Y amount of people would join.
And X was a large number.
I Needed a Lot of Leads
I quickly figured out that I needed to find a way to locate a large amount of people to be able to continue to share my opportunity with daily.
Unfortunately my uplines training of going out and meeting new people in my community would not cut it for me. I was not interested in doing that and to this day I do not believe you can generate enough leads to be successful doing only that.
So in my case I had to go out and find new a business coach; Someone who would train and teach me strategies to be able to continue to build my business in a way I would be comfortable with.
So the short answer is yes in some cases getting a network marketing trainer or coach makes sense and is in fact a necessity.
The secret to success is finding someone who has done what you want to do and just doing what they did.
Learn from them, they have knowledge and experience to share that can help you succeed and grow!
How to Choose a Coach
One of the reasons uplines do not want you to go out and learn strategies elsewhere is because there is simply a ton of junk out there that does not work.
You can spend days and weeks learning a method from some “guru” who considers themselves a coach, only to discover you have been learning a method and potentially spending a pile of money on something that does not work.
So you do have to be careful.
My advice is to start with your upline…
They do have your best interest at heart. In order for them to have success you need to have success so they do have a vested interest in you doing well.
If what they teach has been proven to work for other people in the company then focus on those methods and implement them into your business plan.
Do this with 70% of the time you have allotted to building your business. And get your team to do the same thing.
Then with your remaining time go out and learn strategies that are of interest to you; strategies that not only work but are ones that you can see yourself doing on a consistent basis.
There are many strategies that work when it comes to building your business, so be sure to find one that is suited to you.
There Are Numerous Strategies That Do Work
Success in network marketing really is simply a matter of meeting new people; otherwise known as generating leads.
Developing some rapport or a relationship with them and then asking them if they are open to looking at your opportunity.
And there are countless ways of doing this.
Just because one way is right for some people does not mean it is right for you.
So look at the different strategies that MLM coaches training on. Do they sound like something you could see yourself doing on a daily basis?
I know people that pick up the phone and cold call realtors and are crushing it doing so. But I can’t do that. I have no desire to cold call strangers. But some people love doing it, as it is quick, simple and it works.
I am more of an internet focused person. I like to attract prospects to me. So I have chosen coaches who can help me do that.
This is important.
Do not get roped into learning or trying a strategy just because it works. Just because someone else is getting results is not a reason for you to do it.
Finding a strategy that you will enjoy doing day in and day out is paramount to your success.
How Do You Find a Coach?
That is the easy part. Heck you have found me, so it’s not hard.
You can do a google search on any topic around building a networking business.
Search things such as “how to generate leads” or “how to build a downline”, etc.
You can do the same thing on Facebook. Do a search for industry trainers.
But look for pages not groups. Groups are filled with spam. But pages will typically be owned by the trainer or coach themselves.
Once you find some trainers take a look at their material. It will not be difficult to quickly get an understanding of how they build their business or what they train on.
If the strategies appear interesting to you then head over to their blog and sign up for their free give away.
All trainers give something away, this gets you into their funnel so they can promote their wares to you but it also allows you to get an understanding of what they train on.

Sign up for a couple, see what they are all about. See what their main focus is when it comes to what they train on, and whether it is something you can see yourself doing.
Remember results are not all that you need to be looking at, results are important but equally important is whether the business building activity is one that you can see yourself doing.
Success in the MLM industry is like anything else…
It is achieved by engaging in consistent daily actions repeated over and over again, so it goes without saying that if you like what you are doing you are going to be more inclined to do it.
