There is no question that the combination of Network Marketing and Social Media was and is a game changer for people wanting to build a profitable business from home but were unsuccessful using the old school methods like trying to recruit your friends and family.
Before social media entrenched itself into our lives in the way that it has in the last 5 – 10 years; building a network marketing business was much more challenging.
The people who made it to the top were either people who had a large amount of Influence over a large group of people prior to joining the business or people who simply had an insane out of this world work ethic combined with no fear of approaching everyone and anyone at any time!
And the fact is that not everyone has that kind of influence and not everyone wants to approach complete strangers…
Enter Social Media!
Luckily for the people who don’t have those two things but do have a rock solid desire to build a network marketing business social media was invented.
Social media allows anyone who is committed and persistence to literally be able to start from scratch, with no friends and go onto to create 6 & 7 figure incomes; all online.
The success stories of people doing so are now countless.
Now do not get me wrong, network marketing and social media combined is NOT get rich quick. It takes work and effort and there is a learning curve.
And unfortunately as many people as there are who have succeeded using it there is an exponentially larger number of more people who are doing it ALL wrong and failing miserably.
So in this post I am going to share with you what not to do, then I am going to share two strategies I recommend you use to build your business the right way on social media.
Sound good? OK let’s get at it…
What Not to Do on Social Media
The short answer is don’t spam!
Common sense right? You would think so but for some reason that is exactly what the majority of network marketers are doing. Spamming the heck out of the internet.
So let me explain what I mean when I say don’t spam…
Let’s pretend that Social Media is like a party. Every time you log in you need to treat it like you are going to a party.
Think how you would behave at a party you were invited to. What would you do, what would you say?
One thing I can tell you that you would not do is act like a walking talking bill board for your network marketing company or product.
You would not walk up to every person at the party and start yammering on about your opportunity.
You would not walk up to people and ask them if they want to join your business.
If you did any of these things you would get the boot from the party and never be invited back again.
Instead, what you would do is be Cool!
You would talk about current events, you would talk about interesting things, you would laugh, you would tell jokes, and you would have fun and try to get to know people!
Become the life of the party (or at least a cool person) and you will get invited back to the next one.
People will like you. You will make friends.
Bam, same thing applies with Network Marketing and Social Media!
So now you know what not to do, let’s look at what you should be doing…
How to Prospect on Social Media
There are two methods of prospecting on social media. Both of them follow the same principle however one uses your personal profile and the other uses a Facebook business page.
Depending on your financial situation I recommend you use both if you can afford it; however you most definitely do not have to.
Using a Facebook business page you will run ads on Facebook which of course cost money. When you are using a business page you will be implementing a strategy that is referred to as Attraction Marketing.
Attraction Marketing is where you will create pieces of content such as blog posts, YouTube videos, Facebook Ads, Facebook Live videos, etc.
These pieces of content are geared towards answering questions that your target market has.
As you put out more content you start to become seen as an expert and you gain credibility and influence in the eyes of your prospect.
So much so in fact that as your attraction marketing system starts to gain traction you will actually have prospects reaching out to you. Pretty cool thing to have happen.
There is a learning curve involved with getting started in Attraction Marketing. And not everyone on your network marketing team will want to do it and nor should they.
This method is great for people who have a little more extra time to build their business than the average person. It does NOT replace the active prospecting method we are going to discuss but it is a nice addition to it.
If you use this method you want to make sure you allot no more than 20 – 30% of your time towards it.
Spend the rest of your time actively prospecting on social media implementing the strategy we are going to look at next.

How to Use Your Personal Profile to Recruit
Alright so in my opinion using your personal profile to prospect is something everyone in network marketing should be doing.
You can use this strategy on any of the social media platforms but at the time this blog post was created Facebook is the best. But regardless of what new platform shows up this strategy will work on any of them.
There are actually two methods you can use with your personal profile. I will briefly explain both and then provide you with other blog posts that go into step by step detail on how to use them.
The methods are:
Cut to the chase
Build “some” rapport
The Cut to the Chase Method
This is what I call a burn and turn method. You are going to work through serious numbers. Sifting through all of the No’s you are going to get looking for the people who are interested I.e. the Yes’s!
The basics of this are:
First set up your profile page in such a way that you look professional. Make sure you have a good profile picture and cover photo.
The first thing people are going to do when you message them is head over to your profile picture and see who this person is who is messaging them. You want to give the best first impression possible.
You are then going to pick a target market. Who are you looking to prospect? Maybe it is realtors, insurance brokers, entrepreneurs, people looking to get healthy, teachers, etc.
Now you go and find groups where these people hang out on Facebook. Join at least 3 – 5 of them.
Get into the groups and engage a bit if you like, provide value if you want. This means posting educating and entertaining posts around what this group would find helpful & interesting.
This is not as important with the Cut to the Chase method as it is with the Building Rapport method but it can’t hurt.
Look at who the members of the group are. Go and look at their personal profile. Do they look like a good candidate? Are they upbeat and positive?
If they are it is time to prospect them. And with this method you do that by simply sending them a message to see if they are open to taking a look at your network marketing business.
Keep the message short and to the point.
Be sure to change up your message every time you send one to a new prospect, if not Facebook will catch on and shut you down because they will think you are spamming.
Say something like:
“Hey Jim-boo we have never met but we are both members of blah blah group, I noticed you are from Atlanta, I am actually looking to expand my business into Atlanta and thought I would message you to see if you are open to taking a look at what I do. If so I can send you some information, if not no problem. Thanks”.
That’s it!
Do that 5, 10 or 20 times a day.
You are going to get a ton of No’s BUT you are also going to get people who are open to taking a look. This is a pure numbers game. Get into massive action and work the numbers and you will sign up a good number of new distributors and customers.

Build a Network Marketing Team
The Build “some” Rapport Method
There are some similarities between this strategy and the Cut to the Chase strategy.
- You are going to set up your profile in the same way.
- You are going to pick a target market
- and you are going to go and find 3 – 5 groups that they hang out in.
Now the difference is this is not a burn and turn method. Instead you are going to build some rapport and more importantly Influence.
You are going to do this by providing lots of value in the groups. You are going to post educational and informative posts based around the topic of the group.
You are going to comment on other peoples posts and answer their questions. You are going to like their posts.
As you start to engage and provide value your influence is going to grow.
These people are going to start coming to see you as an expert and knowledgeable. They are going to start to follow your personal profile and you are going to start to get friend requests.
As you engage in the groups and get to know people you can also send the friend requests.
Now back on your personal profile you are going to do the same kind of deal. Since you are building a following of people interested in the same thing you are going to provide value on your personal wall.
For every 10 posts you make you are going to want to make 6 value based posts, which are posts that will answer your target markets questions or posts they will find informative.
3 posts should be lifestyle posts. These are posts of you living your life. Posts showing people who you are. Posts of you out having fun, hanging out with your friends and family, doing fun and exciting things.
Then the last post out of every 10 will be a business or product post. But you are not spamming. You are NOT making buy now or join me posts!
What you want to do is make a curiosity post based around your business or product. This is a post that makes people want more. Very much like a movie trailer, you give them just a bit and make them curious for more.
An example could be of you posting a picture of yourself and say something like:
“Wish me luck, I’ve decided to start a side gig, I’ve got a buddy who is making an extra $1000 per month and I could use some of that myself. It’s going to be quite an adventure!”
And that is it…
You leave them wondering what it is you are doing.
Some will come right out and ask you right there on your post. When they do send them a Private message and tell them you saw their comment and ask if they are open to taking a look and if so you can send them some information.
And then moving forward for each business post you make simply provide updates and news about your side gig. How it is going for you. How it is going for others. Trainings you are attending, etc.
But remember to only give them a little bit, make them curious.
And as you are providing value and creating influence over your friends you can also reach out to them and ask them if they are open to an opportunity; very much in the same way I showed you how to do in the Cut to the Chase method.
This is a great strategy and one I believe you and your whole team should be using. You can learn more about it here on this post:
How to Generate Leads for Network Marketing
To Wrap It Up
And there you go that is how you do network marketing and social media together.
I recommend you pick two of the strategies. Attraction Marketing and either the Cut to the Chase or the Build “some” rapport method.
Get into action with these and you are going to start to recruiting new distributors and getting your business rolling.
Let me know in the comment section below if you received and value from this post and whether you have any questions on any of this.
Cheers my friend!
