The topic of “Network Marketing and Christians” is an interesting one to me as I am both a Christian and a network marketer.
I find it an interesting topic because there are many holier than thou “believers” out there who frown upon Christians having a desire to make money or become a success.
We have all heard money is the root of all evil. Where in fact the Bible says “the love” of money is the root of all evil, not money itself.
However this is a prime example of how some church leaders and denominations can twist what God was really saying or intending.
Having grown up in a family which was very Christ centered I was surrounded by influences in my life that sometimes put a negative stigma like that towards any desire to make money.
Now my family was not like this, they were in fact entrepreneurs, both my mother and father and as such they instilled in me entrepreneurship and a strong work ethic at an early age.
But I would come across this type of teaching from the different churches, events, pastors, universities and leaders I was around throughout my life growing up. Which as a result can have a negative effect on your thought process towards money and making money.
And yes there is no question that “one” of the driving factors of why people join network marketing is because of the large amounts of money you can make. Along with time freedom, being your own boss, and helping others to name a few.
I’m Just Going to Lay It All On The Table
This blog post is my thoughts on how to be successful in network marketing while still being able to devote your life to Christ.
Because in the end I believe that is why we are here on earth, to build a life that is focused on Christ and to do his will.
I believe our time on earth is intended to be a tryout so to speak for eternity. Rick Warren talks about this in his book the purpose driven life. And it is a tryout you don’t want to mess up.
So yes we are to live our lives for Christ. However that does not mean we are not supposed to work and when we work the Bible tells us we are to work hard and we are to find satisfaction in it.
The following verse is from Ecclesiastes 3:13:
“A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God.”
I believe you are to find satisfaction in the work you do.
For me that meant network marketing. I love network marketing and I find great satisfaction in doing it.
I think one of the major tragedies in life is working a job you despise.
Waking up and having to go do something you really do not like doing is not something in my opinion God would want you to do.
Working a job that only pays you enough to survive and not thrive is not something God wants you to do.
Stressing out and barely being able to pay your bills is not in my opinion what his plan is for you.
I believe he wants you to live up to your potential in whatever area that is.
And if Network Marketing is an area that you feel God is calling you toward then you should do it to the best of your ability.
There is no question I believe you should pray about it. Feel good that God does want you to pursue your business opportunity and if the answer is yes then work hard to be the best you can be at it.
Making Money is OK
It is OK to be in business and be a Christian. It is OK to make money.
The fact is that some people are called to the ministry and others are not.
For those of us who are not called to the ministry it does not mean we are not meant to live our lives for God and you can do that by being successful in business.
I attended Liberty University and I can recall the late Jerry Falwell Sr saying that yes some people are called to be preachers and missionaries and that others are called to be business people. And the Lord needs both.
It is the business people who fund the churches and missions. It is the business people who provide the money for God’s work to be done.
Keep Focused on The Lord
The key is to keep God in the process.
When we are in business for ourselves or building a downline in network marketing it does take effort, time and energy.
And if you are building your organization part-time while you are still working a job as most people have to do, you are going to become busy and if you are not careful your relationship with God can suffer.
Don’t allow that to happen. Continue to make time for him. Set aside the time to do your devotions, read your bible and pray. Do not let the business get in the way.
This was something I had to learn to master because when I commit to something I go all in and if I am not careful that can be at the detriment to other things which includes my quiet time with God.
Money Can Cause Problems
Another reason to stay focused on the Lord is that the money and fame that comes with being successful in a network marketing business can cause problems if you let it.
There is a reason why they compare success in this business to becoming a MLM rock star. Because there really is no life like it except perhaps of that of a rock star.
When you get to the top the money is incredible, you are on the stage in front of thousands of people who look up to you and want to be around you. And if you are not careful this “stardom” can go to your head causing you to make bad decisions and stray from God.
I know this because it happened to me. There was a time that I allowed the success I achieved to derail me from what was important.
The enemy will try to tempt you, so guard yourself from that.
In Conclusion
So to wrap it up there is no reason whatsoever that as a Christian you can not be a network marketer as well.
And as discussed there are many great reasons why you should be.
I would question the motives of anyone who would ever give you a hard time for running your business with integrity, keeping Christ at the center of it and using the money you make to do the Lord’s work.
Again pray about it and make sure you are doing it for the right reasons and if so jump in and work hard towards being the best you can be. Just as the following verses says…
1 Corinthians 10:31: “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
