I always go back to how lucky I was when I got started in my career. The Network Marketing Advice and training I received right from the start was something most people do not receive in their whole network marketing career.
I remember my sponsor telling me that I really had no idea how lucky I was and he was right because at the time I did not. You see I had the incredible opportunity to work very closely with top industry earners and leaders like Eric Worre of Network Marketing Pro and Randy Gage as they were both part of my direct upline.
As a result, I was provided with a rock solid belief that success was indeed possible, I never had any doubts whether it worked or not. I knew success was not only possible but also very doable as I was around tons of people who were making it work in a big way.
The training I received from these leaders on how to build a successful downline was 2nd to none.
So in today’s post I am going to pass it on and share with you 7 powerful pieces of advice I have learned over the course of my career to help you rock your business.
Let’s get started…
#1 – Really Understand What You Have
Right off, the bat here is where a ton of people go wrong in network marketing. They really have no idea what they have in front of them.
Let’s be honest the majority of people who join an opportunity were not looking for one. The opportunity found them and typically as a result of a friend or family member harassing them until they joined.
So what ends up happening in many cases is people just join to “see” how it will go. To give it a try, why not. To “see” if it will work.
Because of this wishy-washy attitude towards their business they really do not put a lot of effort (if any) into trying to make it work.
They really do not believe they can create a 6 or 7 figure income. Deep down they might even think it is a scam.
You Must Recognize the Powerful Business Model it Truly Is
If you truly want to revolutionize your life, you need to really truly understand what you have.
Network Marketing is the greatest income producing life changing opportunity known to man.
Regardless of where you live, what your race is, what your education level is, if you are middle class, wealthy or live in poverty network marketing evens the playing field and allows anyone from any walk of life to be able to completely change their life.
Regardless of who you are or where you come from or what your life experiences are somebody just like you has crushed it in this industry.
If they can do it, you can also.
If you have any doubts about this then you need to start researching success stories.
Start reading about people who have made it to the top.
Start attending your company training calls. They will host people who have made it and are making it.
You will hear real life people talking about how your company is revolutionizing their life.
Trust me your belief level will start to rise. When you start to really believe that is when you will start to get into serious action and begin making things happen!
#2 – Treat Network Marking Like a Business and Not a Hobby
Now that you understand, that what you have in front of you is a business and one that you can most definitely do well at it is time to give it the attention it deserves.
Again, most people treat it like a hobby. They do a little bit here. They listen to a training call now and then. They talk to a person or two once every 2nd week. They hand out a flier from time to time.
This is how people treat a hobby and in most cases, hobbies do not pay very well.
If you want your business to pay you then you need to treat it like a business.
If you invested your hard-earned savings into a bricks and mortar business you built from the ground up, or you purchased a franchise you can bet your bottom dollar you would not treat either of those things like a hobby.
You would put the required time into them and probably more. You would work your tail off to make sure you were a success.
Here is the wild thing; most franchise owners income is on average about 60k a year. In Network Marketing, you have the opportunity to make that amount and more per month!
So if you would work 50 – 70 hours a week on a franchise in order to earn a 60K a year income you certainly cannot expect your network marketing business to pay you 5k, 10k or 60k + per month if you only work a couple of hours a week here and there on it.
You must get very serious with it.
You have to learn the skills required to become a success (which you are doing now).
You have to have a business plan in place, meaning what are you going to do daily to build your business. And you have to stick to it.
Success in this industry will require you work 10 – 15 hours per week. Yes still very much a part-time deal, but you must put the that time into it.
#3 – Know Your Why
Here is the honest to goodness truth about what you are going to experience in your network marketing journey.
- You are going to have ups and downs.
- You are going to have frustrations and setbacks.
- You are going to face rejection and you are going to get frustrated.
- You are going to want to quit.
- It is the nature of the beast, it happens to all of us and it is just the way it is.
So in order to prepare yourself for that you MUST come up with your WHY.
What is your reason for wanting to build a successful network marketing business? Why do you want to create the lifestyle it can create for you?
Your “WHY” is going to keep you in the game when the going gets tough.
When you have a setback, you need to remind yourself of your “why”.
In fact, you should have it written out and pasted all over the place so you are reminded of it on a regular basis.
Your “Why” is yours and yours alone. It will be different for everyone.
It could be:
- Your kid is going to university and needs help to pay for it
- You want to get a new home for you and your family
- Your family needs a new car as the one you are driving is not going to last
- You want to take your kids on that vacation you have been promising them.
- Perhaps you hate your job and you want to make a change
There are a million different reasons why people are building a network marketing business. You need to figure yours out.
This is an important step, if you need some help with it here is a training to help you find your “why”!
Make sure it hits you deep in your soul. Make sure that it is so powerful that the thought of not achieving it would hurt too bad to give up and quit.
Which leads to the next piece of advice…
#4 – Never Ever Quit
There is an on old saying in this industry that the only way to fail is if you quit.
I believe this to be 100% bang on. If you make the rock solid commitment that you are going to do this no matter what I truly believe you will make it.
If you give yourself the time to figure this out you will figure it out.
Some people go faster than others do.
Some people learn the skills required to make it to the top sooner than others do. That is just the way it is and that is OK. This is your journey and no one else’s.
Stay the course, be patient with yourself, learn and mater the skills required and just keep putting in the work and you will make it.
The next piece of advice is one of my secrets to success that keeps me doing what is required and pushing on even when I don’t feel like it…
#5 – OD on PD
OD stands for over dose. And PD stands for Personal Development.
Over dose on personal development.
Personal development is the practice of working on yourself. The practice of improving yourself.
As the late but great Jim Rohn said: “Work harder on yourself then you do on your job”!
For me personal development has been a major reason why I never quit. It keeps me motivated and on track to do what I need to do.
Every leader in this industry that I have ever met is addicted to personal development. Success leaves clues and this is one of them.
Daily Personal Development is a Must!
Every single morning start your day off by reading a chapter of self-help book, such as think and grow rich by Napoleon.
Before I get into prospecting mode, I like to fire myself up by watching a motivational video on YouTube.
When you are driving in your car turn the radio off and turn on a success oriented podcast cast.
And before you go to bed turn your phone off and read some more from your book.
What you think about expands.
What you focus on you become.
What you put into your brain and subconscious finds a way to manifest itself in your life.
Focus on success and you will become a success and nothing will be able to derail you.
#6 – Set Your Schedule and Stick to It
The catch 22 with this business is that you are your own boss.
Which is the good thing and indeed one of the main reasons people join a company. But it can also be a bad thing as you have no one overseeing you making sure you do what is required on a daily basis.
No boss to keep you on track and doing the work.
You must become self-disciplined to do the work; no one is going to do it for you.
Set a realistic schedule and stick to it no matter what. If you can only put in 10 hours a week that is fine as long as you actually put in the 10 hours a week.
Little consistent steps will get you there as long as you take them daily.
#7 – Become a Good to Great Recruiter
Sponsoring is the top skill you want to learn in this business.
It is what we do here. Recruiting new team members is something you need to get good to great at.
There will never be a time in your career when you stop recruiting.
It does not matter if you are the top leader in a company or just getting started you need to be sponsoring new distributors into your downline or your business will start to fail.
If you paid no attention to any of the other advice I gave you today and only focused on becoming good at recruiting you are going to become a success.
The good news is that anyone can learn this skill set. Recruiting truly is not a difficult thing once you learn how to do it correctly.
Anyone with the desire can become good enough at it to build a serious business and residual income check.
