MLM recruiting online is a game changer for network marketers. There is no question that it is a lot simpler and more powerful than offline recruiting.
After you have run out of people in your warm market it becomes very challenging to find more people offline to prospect. Online is a completely different story. Using the right strategies it is a straight forward process to be able to find an endless supply of people to share your business opportunity with.
When it comes to online recruiting there are 3 different strategies I recommend. All 3 of them work very well on their own or in conjunction with each other.
2 of them are what I consider active prospecting and the other is passive prospecting or simply put marketing.
What I recommend is that you pick one of the active methods, focus on it 70% of the time you have allotted to building your business and then with the remaining 30% of your time work on the passive method.
In this post I am going to explain all 3 of these recruiting methods and also point you to other trainings to help you master them.
Online Strategy #1 – Burn and Turn
This first recruiting strategy is what I like to refer to as burn and turn. This is for people who want to get into serious action. You are going to be prospecting a large amount of people on a daily basis.
We are talking anywhere between 20 – 50 people daily. You can see why I call it burn and turn.
This strategy works the numbers big time. Recruiting online in MLM is definitely a numbers game. The more people you sort through or put in your funnel the more people will say Yes to your opportunity.
This method is all about getting to the point with your prospect. Letting them know exactly why you are reaching out to them. There is very little rapport building with this method. It is a cut to the chase strategy.
Here is how it works…
It is an online method that uses social media. You can do this on any of the social media platforms. I recommend Facebook and for the following example that is what we are going to use.
Step #1 is to determine who your target market is.
With this method not everyone is your target market. You can have a few target markets if you like but it is recommended to keep them similar.
For example if you are targeting realtors you could also target people who like personal development and perhaps entrepreneurs. All 3 of these target markets have similar things in common. They are movers and shakers, they are financially driven and they typically like motivational books, success trainers, quotes, etc.
Step #2 – Set up your profile in such a way as to attract these people.
When you approach them about your network marketing business the first thing they are going to do is go and look at your profile to see what you are all about. You want it to give the right impression.
You want to appear like you are upbeat, positive, professional, successful, motivated, happy, living life, having fun, etc.
Have a nice profile pic of you. Not your friends, family or dog.
Have a cover photo that shows you living life, having a good time, doing something fun or exciting. Yes your family, friends and dog can be in this picture.
Make sure your posts are upbeat, positive, entertaining, informative, etc. Do not post about your company or products. Make posts that your target market would enjoy.
Step #3 – Join groups.
Go out and find groups and pages where your target market hangs out on Facebook. If you are targeting realtors than go and find groups for realtors. You want to find at least 3 – 5 of these groups. Join them.
Step #4 – Look for quality people in the group.
Look for people who are upbeat and positive. When you find one go and look at their profile. Do they look like a good prospect? Are they upbeat on their profile? Are they active on Facebook?
Step #5 – Reach out to them.
OK you have found a prospect. Now it is time to see if they are open to your MLM opportunity. And that is all you want to do, is see if they are open to taking a look at it.
Simply send them a message like the following:
“Hey so & so;, we don’t know each other, however we are both in the group “blah blah”. I saw the post/comment you made about “blah blah” and enjoyed it/thought it was great/agreed with you/etc. I noticed you are from “Albany”. I am actually looking to expand my business into “Albany” and wanted to check with you to see if you would be open to taking a look at it, if so I can send you some information, if not no problem, thanks.”
That is it…
You get the elephant out of the room by stating you don’t know each other. You let them know how you found them (the group), and then you cut right to the chase and tell them why you are contacting them.
Do not copy and paste that message. Make it your own and change it to some extent every time you send it. If you just copy and paste the same message Facebook will catch on and think you are a spammer and shut your down.
Step #6 – Don’t worry about the No’s.
If they respond negatively just thank them for their time and move on. This is a numbers game, you are looking for those who are open to looking.
Step #7 – Focus on the Yes’s.
If they respond and say they are open to looking at it or ask you what is it tell them you can send them a quick video about it and ask them when they would have time to check it out.
Step #8 – Get them the info.
Send them the information and follow up with them at the time they said they would have checked the information out by.
Step #9 – Burn and turn.
Keep on moving to new prospects. Again this online recruiting method is all about the numbers. So keep working them.

Online Strategy #2 – Build Influence
Having influence may just be the one real secret in MLM. The person who with it has a huge advantage over someone who does not.
You have seen influence in action in your network marketing business before…
Remember that person who just joined your company and seemingly shot to the top of the leader boards overnight? That person who was able to build a business and a large commission check very quickly?
Ever wonder why they were able to do that?
It is because they had influence over a large group of people. A large group of people looked up to them and admired them. They had developed serious rapport and know, like and trust with this group of people. Their tribe!
Through something they had done prior to joining your opportunity they had created this Influence.
- Perhaps they were an Entrepreneur and respected as someone who knows a lot about business and making money.
- Perhaps they were a community leader who was admired.
- Perhaps they were a pastor of a church and had a large congregation of people who looked up to them.
- Maybe they were a leader in a different MLM company and had a large devoted following of people who came with them.
There are countless ways people could build Influence. But offline it would have taken them years to have built this influence.
However online is a completely different story. Online anyone can create influence in a relatively short period of time and use it to become a recruiting machine.
Again this strategy is done using social media and can be done on most of the social media platforms; however Facebook is once again the best option and what the following example will be based on.
Here is how it is done…
Step #1 – Some parts same as last strategy.
You want to do everything we talked about in step 1, 2 and 3 in the last example (strategy #1). Exact same principles apply here.
Step #2 – Now here is where the strategy changes.
When you find the 3 – 5 groups you want to go into them and start providing value.
You want to become looked upon as the expert in the field. As the go to person. As a knowledgeable individual in that area.
For example if you are looking to recruit people who enjoy personal development and motivation. You would go and find 3 -5 groups based around those topics.
You would go into the groups and start providing value. Tips on motivation. Trainings on goal setting. Inspirational thoughts. There are all kinds of things you could post and talk about.
You will also comment on other people’s posts and comments they make. Provide your thoughts on what they are posting. Answer their questions. Etc.
Over time as you provide this value the people in the groups will come to look at you as an expert on the topic. You will start to develop influence.
Step #3 – Move it to your profile.
As you start to engage with people and provide value they will start to follow you and add you as a friend. It will amaze you how fast this starts to happen. You can also send a friend request to people who you are having a good connection with.
A quick tip. Every time you send or receive a friend request make sure to send a message to the person also. Do not bring up your business or product, just be a normal human and interact.
Step #4 – Continue posting value.
Now that your prospect is a Facebook friend do not go and blow the influence you are starting to build by trying to recruit them instantly or spam them.
What you want to do is continue to develop your influence by posting value on your profile. Continue to post trainings, tips, thoughts, education, etc.
For every 10 posts you make do 6 – 7 value based posts.
Step #5 – Sprinkle in lifestyle posts.
You also want to start including posts that show your prospects who you are. So post things about you, your family, fun things you are doing whether that is family events, out to dinner, on vacation, at a kids sporting event, hiking, boating, skiing, skating, fishing, whatever!
The point is let your prospect into your life. Let them see you.
For every 10 posts you make do 3 – 4 lifestyle posts.
Step #6 – Curiosity post.
OK so now it is time to start posting a wee bit about your MLM business. For every 10 posts you make just 1 of them should be about your business or product.
And the big thing is to NOT spam. Too many people get online and start trying to recruit by blasting their links for their business and opportunity all over the place.
Do not do this. In fact your prospect should never be able to tell what company you are with without asking you. You want them to have to reach out to you to find out.
So what you want to do is make “Curiosity” posts about your business and product. Basically you are talking about your business or product in a nonchalant way.
What you want to do is make offhanded references to your company and/or product.
If you are promoting your weight loss product you could post a picture of you holding the container or package the product comes in with a piece of tape over its name or your hand over its name.
You could say something like “wish me luck, decided to lose those extra 10lbs, excited to start this new program my friend lost 20 lbs. on, here we go”.
If you are promoting your business opportunity, you could make a post along the same lines “here we go, I decided to start an online business, have a friend making an extra $1000 a month, could definitely use some of that, wish me luck”.
Now moving forward for every curiosity post you make you could simply just give an update on how you are doing. A training you just listened in to or attended. Photos of people rank advancing or losing weight. Etc.
Once you get the hang of it the curiosity posts will come easily to you.
Step #7 – How to Recruit.
What is going to happen is every time you post a curiosity post people are going to comment on it. They will ask you what you are doing. What is the product or opportunity?
Do not tell them what it is in the comments. Instead reply and say you are sending them a message.
Now send a message and say something like “hey John, saw your comment asking what I am doing, if you want some information I can send it over to you to check out, let me know”.
That’s it! If they reply that they would like some information send it over.
The second way to recruit online for your MLM business using this method is to reach out to your Facebook friends directly. As you develop rapport and influence simply send them a message like the following:
“Hey Judy it’s been really cool getting to know you. I’ve been meaning to reach out to you. I see you live in Bangor, I have been looking to expand my internet business into Bangor and thought I would see if you would be open to taking a look at it”.
Bam! That is how it is done my friend.
It’s a very powerful strategy for recruiting online and as you start to grow your friends list using this method you will start to gain traction and easily start enrolling people.

Online Strategy #3 – Marketing
Simply put this strategy puts the marketing back into network marketing. Most networkers leave that part out of the equation and simply attempt to network.
Marketing online to build your MLM business is called Attraction Marketing.
It is a very passive method of recruiting that eliminates all of the rejection typically associated with prospecting.
Attraction marketing like the other two strategies we discussed in this post involves picking a target market. Once you have chosen a target market you begin creating content that will attract them to you.
The content could be in the form of blog posts, YouTube videos, content on Facebook business pages, Instagram posts, Tweets, Facebook Ads, etc.
It is designed to provide value to your target market. It educates them and helps solve their problems. Over time you are creating influence with them as they begin to know, like and trust you.
As you develop this influence or a brand; your prospects come to see you as an expert in your field.
Let’s say you set yourself up as the weight loss guru…
As you continue to provide valuable information about weight loss you can also start to recommend and promote your company’s product to your followers and they will eagerly buy what you recommend as you have proven your worth to them and they respect your advice and opinion.
Same thing applies if you want to promote your network marketing company…
The best target market is network marketers. They already know and love the industry.
You are not looking to poach networkers who are happily building a business. You are looking for people are looking for a change. Either they were in an MLM business before and are looking to get back in or they are looking to make a change.
Your content would be geared to providing them with valuable information about how to build a business.
The more content you put out over time the more these people come to see you as an expert and as someone who can help them build a successful downline. They will make the decision for themselves that working with you is their best chance at success and will reach out to you asking about your opportunity.
It does take time to get momentum happening but when you do it is a game changer. Prospecting becomes simple as your prospects literally come to you.
