My goal with this blog post is to provide you some high level nuts and bolts MLM Marketing Training to allow you to finally get on the right path to be able to crush it in your MLM business this year.
There are two key components to building a successful MLM business. You must have both of these components nailed down and in place if you want to truly create a business that is going to pay you a 6 or 7 figure income and do so for the rest of your career.
There have been people who have gotten 1 of these components right but forgot about (or neglected) the 2nd one and as a result they saw short term success but in the end their business collapsed as fast as it grew.
The two key components I am going to train you on today are:
- Team Building
Learn how to successfully do both of these things and you will create a successful organization that pays you a serious residual income check for a very long time to come.
OK let’s get into the training…
Component #1 – You Must Become a Professional Recruiter
This is what we do here my friend. We recruit new people into our business. It is the foundation and lifeblood of your business.
If you are not sponsoring new people into your business on a monthly basis, you are failing.
In fact, I do not care at what level you are within your company, top income earner or just getting started, everyone must figure out how to personally sponsor 3 – 5 new distributors into their downline each month. If not your business is going backwards!
And here is the great news my friend. Recruiting is not hard and anyone has the ability to learn this skill.
And it pays big dollars!
To start with, there are a couple of concepts you need to understand…
Concept #1 – We Are Not Sales People
The first thing to understand is that recruiting in the MLM industry is not selling. We are not sales people. This is a crucial concept for you to understand.
In fact, people who have made a career as a sales person have a hard time in this industry. They try to apply all of the sales training they learned over the course of their career, and it does not work.
The main reason for this is that their prospect is watching what they are doing as they are presenting to them. They see this person trying to sell and apply sales tactics on them.
A key lesson to learn is that whatever you are doing to recruit someone into your business they are thinking they will have to do.
If you are selling to them, they are thinking to themselves they are going to have to sell to other people, and the truth is that most people hate the idea of having to sell anything.
As a result, if they perceive they will have to become a sales person if they join they are not going to sign up. You have lost them.
Concept #2 – We Are in the Sharing Business
As I said, we are not in the selling business. We do not try to convince people to join. We do not have to learn high-pressure sales tactics. We do not have to learn 8 step closing techniques.
All we do is share our opportunity with people who are open to looking at it.
Really understand this my friend and it will make your life so much easier. People tend to over complicate the MLM industry and what it takes to be successful.
All we do is meet people, develop some rapport with them (become friends), and ask them if they are open to looking at an opportunity.
That truly is all there is to it.
It is a simple business model when you cut out all of the BS we tend to want to add to it.
Some people will be open to looking at it, others will not, and both of those results are A-OK. Your job is simply to find out if they are open to looking.
Use a 3rd Party Tool to Do the Selling For You
If your prospect is open to taking a look you simply share your opportunity with them by using 3rd party tools.
3rd party tools are anything besides you that shares the details of your MLM marketing business and product with your prospect.
A 3rd party tool could be a website, a video, a webinar, a conference call, a Facebook group or a hotel or home meeting.
Your team or MLM Company itself will have created these tools for you. They are designed to do all of the selling, marketing and telling for you.
See how easy what we do truly is?
This is an important part of your training my friend. Understand all we do is meet people, build a relationship (friendship) with them, and then ask if they are open to looking an opportunity and if they are SHARE a 3rd party tool with them.
But Where Do I Meet New People
Alright so as soon as I finish training someone on how to prospect by sharing their opportunity with people using 3rd party tools the next question they immediately ask 9 times out of 10 is: “Where do I find new people”!
It is a great question to ask and one that I asked very early on in my MLM Marketing career. Always having new prospects or leads to share you opportunity with is a crucial component to your success.
And the short answer is: “People (prospects) are everywhere”. That is a 100% accurate statement. However, if I am honest I always hated that answer.
I can remember when I asked my upline that exact question and that was his reply. It irritated the heck out of me.
Yes people are everywhere, but give me a break, I am not going to just start running around talking to everyone I see. Not going to happen. Even if I go online, using social media to recruit there is a right way and a wrong way to approach people about your business.
4 Places to Meet People
There are 4 methods of recruiting that I recommend. I am going to reveal them in this training and then I am going to point you to other blog posts where you can learn each one in detail!
- Warm Market (the people you know, do not skip this market is crucial to your long term success)
- Living Life
- Social Media Marketing
- Internet or Attraction Marketing.
I recommend the first 3 of these to everyone. You want to start with your warm market and you want to make sure your team does as well.
You then should transition into using social media sites like Facebook and LinkedIn to meet and prospect new people. While at the same time, you should look for sharp people and develop friendships with them as you are out living your life on a day-to-day basis.
These 3 recruiting methods will provide you with more than enough prospects for the rest of your MLM marketing career.
The 4th method, i.e. Attraction Marketing is a strategy that I only recommend to people who want to do a little bit more “on top” of the other 3.
Never replace the other 3 methods with the 4th. Only do the 4th method on top of the others, or in addition to the others.
It is a great strategy if you can do what I just said. If you cannot do what I just said and instead will be tempted to only do the 4th strategy INSTEAD of the other 3 forget about it, don’t waste your time, you will fail.
OK if you want to learn more about these methods here is a training you can check out for each of them:
The Last Word on Recruiting
Before we get into team building the last thing I am going to say about recruiting is that it is absolutely 100% a numbers game!
You cannot control the outcome in regard to whether somebody is going to join your MLM business or not, but you can control the numbers!
The simple fact of the matter is that the person that prospects the most people is going to win at this game.
I might be better at getting someone to say Yes to my business then you, let’s say I get 4 out of every 10 people I speak with to join and you get 3. You can still out recruit me by simply talking to more people.
It is a simple concept.
The worst recruiter in the world can still crush it and learn to recruit 3 – 5 people into their downline every month simply by learning to control the numbers.
As they start recruiting a ratio is going to emerge. If they share the opportunity with X number of people then Y number of people are going to join.
Then it is simply a matter of speaking with X number of people in order to ensure they are sponsoring 3-5 people per month.
Work the numbers and you win!
Alright check out those recruiting training links and if you have any questions or need help reach out to me.
Time to move onto Team Building!
Component #2 – You Can’t Do It Alone
You need a team!
The old adage that if it is to be it is up to me, does NOT apply to the MLM industry.
You cannot do it on your own here. It is virtually impossible. You need to build a large organization of people who use the product themselves and share the opportunity with others.
There are business models out there where your success is 100% dependent on you; this is not one of them.
With MLM the large residual income checks are created from small commissions from the sales of many products in your downline or team. This is why it is important to learn how to build a large organization.
Let’s now take a look at how this is done…
#1 – Let People Be Who They Are
Something that took me a long time to wrap my head around was that not everyone on my team had the same drive and ambition to create a massive income like I did.
It shocked me to learn that some people were happy to earn a couple of thousand dollars per month verses 6 or 7 figures.
It blew my mind to discover that other people were ecstatic to make only $500 per month.
And it really took me a long time to wrap my head around the fact that some people were content to simply have their product paid for each month. Meaning make just enough commission to pay for their product.
And lastly it really jolted me to my core to learn that some people on my team did not care if they made one red cent, they just liked being a part of something. They loved being on the team. They loved the personal development aspect of the business and just wanted to be a part.
This Was Hard For Me to Deal With
When I was first starting out, I used to try to get everyone to do what I was doing. I used to try to get them to work as hard as I was working.
Now some did. But many did not. And trying to get them to do what they did not want to do was like herding cats as Jim Rohn would say.
It was not fun and it was simply not possible. I am sure I chased many people away from the business by doing so.
What I eventually learned is you need to let people be who they are.
You need to let your downline members work as much or as little as they want to.
Provide them with the tools and resources to absolutely crush it if they want to, but if they choose to do 80% of what you do let them. If they choose to do, 60%, 40%, 20% or even 0% of what you do let them.
Encourage them to be their best, motivate them to do amazing things, but do not try to force them to.
This is a volunteer army, you are not their boss.
Nobody wants a boss; most people already have one with their day job. Again, strive to motivate them to be their best, and provide them with the tools to do so but let them be who they are.
In many cases, their goals are going to be different from yours and that is OK. That is how large and successful downlines are built, by embracing and meeting people where they are.
Which leads us to the next concept of team building to understand.
80 – 20 Rule
Your time is extremely valuable and the majority of it needs to be spent recruiting.
The people who you personally sponsor into your MLM business if you let them can become serious time vampires.
If you let them, they will waste your time, calling you, asking you questions, and simply just wanting to talk on the phone with you.
They will fool themselves into thinking they are “working” on their business by talking to their upline. When in fact they are wasting your time and theirs.
The rule you MUST follow is the 80-20 rule.
80% (the majority) of the people on your team will only be responsible for 20% of your team’s growth.
Whereas 20% of your team (the go-getters) will be responsible for 80% of the growth in your business.
It is uncanny how this works, but it is the real deal!
Here is How to Focus Your Time
With the 20% of the people doing 80% of the growth you want to give them the majority of your attention. You can work with them one on one.
Spend time with them as it is helping you and them. Train them on a personal basis.
With the 80% who are responsible for the 20% of your growth work with them in groups.
Team training websites, weekly Team training calls. Super Saturday training events. Webinars, Facebook groups and the quarterly corporate and team training events.
This can be a hard concept for people to do; because they feel responsible for everyone they recruit.
And yes you are responsible for the people you recruit in that you need to be a good sponsor.
Being a good sponsor means you get them started correctly, you give them the tools to build the business and you support them in groups. But you do not baby sit them and you do not allow them to waste your time.
How to Train Your Team
All right you recruit someone into your MLM Marketing business, what do you do next?
I recommend having a get started training call with the new team member. Just you and them one on one.
Take 30 minutes and explain exactly how they build the business. Explain to them how to recruit and provide them with the 3rd party tools they should use.
Show them the team training websites, Facebook groups and make sure they have the details on the team training calls.
Now for the important part…
Give Them an Assignment
At the end of the get started call with my personally enrolled team member I give them an assignment and tell them to get back to me when they have completed it.
In most cases, this would be to get through the team training whether that is a website or a Facebook group.
I do not chase them.
If they get back to me that is a great sign that they are serious and I give them a new assignment and tell them to get back to me again when they have completed it.
In most cases, I will tell them to call the first 10 people on their list.
Then when they get back to me, I will review with them how the calls went. I will help them make any adjustments that need making and then give them the next assignment of going through the rest of their list.
It will become very apparent very quickly who the people are that will become part of your 20% vs your 80%.
What I just shared are the basics of team building, it is an important skill set to learn and one you should spend time learning.
Here is a training I recommend to further understand this important concept:
And there you have it my friend, I hope you enjoyed this MLM marketing training and more importantly got value out of it.
Learn and implement what I just shared with you and you are going to be well on your way to crushing your business and creating an incredible income and lifestyle.
Cheers to YOUR Success
