When I first got started in my business I did not realize that most MLM and Network Marketing Training that people receive when they start out is not very good.
This is because I was very lucky that I was sponsored onto a team that had really great training in place, as such I just automatically assumed that was the way it was for everyone regardless of what team or company you are with.
Most people who join a biz opportunity have to fly by the seat of their pants, because they have nobody there to help them, train them or direct them in what they should be doing. They are left to figure it out on their own.
I believe that this is a major reason for the high failure rate in our industry.
Add to it the fact that most training that is out there is simply terrible it is a wonder that anyone ever figures out how to become successful.
I Got Lucky
I did not realize it at the time but I was very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to work directly with Mr. Eric Worre and Mr. Randy Gage.
If you do not know them, they are two of the very top legends of the MLM and Network Marketing industry.
I was involved as where they in a launch of a company and they were in my direct upline so I had direct communication and training with them and what I learned from them allowed me to create a 6-figure income in only 8 months.
So needless to say I understand the importance of training in this business, and as a result it has become a goal of mine to give back to the community by providing as much detailed and informative training as I can with this blog.
In today’s post I am going to provide you with some of the best training I have ever received. I will then provide links where you can learn more about each of the topics.
#1 – Treat it Like a Business
If you did this and nothing else, you would eventually figure out how to become a success.
You see a major problem with this industry is that people join just for the heck of it. Just to try it. Just to see if it will work.
They have the wrong expectations coming in. They may think it is get-rich-quick. Maybe they think they will only have to talk to a few people and their business will take off.
Perhaps they think everyone they talk to will want to join. They might believe that they can work 1 – 2 hours a week and see results, simply tinker with it here and there and the business will make them money.
None of these thoughts are correct. And if you believe them you are setting yourself up for failure.
All Businesses Take Hard Work
Network Marketing is a business! And every single business model on the planet requires hard work and dedication, including this one.
If you invested thousands of dollars into a brick and mortar business or a franchise you can bet your bottom dollar you would treat it like a business, because you probably did bet your bottom dollar on it.
I would say 90% of the people who join a home based business treat it like a hobby. And the fact is that if you treat it like a hobby it is going to pay you like a hobby would.
If you treat it like a business then it will pay you like a business will.
It’s a simple concept, but so many people miss this part.
Now here is the good news.
Unlike a traditional bricks and mortar business or a franchise where you will need to work 60 – 80 hours a week to just survive for your first 5 years. Network marketing is built on a part-time basis.
It will require 12 – 15 hours a week of concentrated effort from you. But that is it. In fact, you would find it very difficult to work more than the 12 – 15 hours in a week as there would be nothing more for you to do.
How great is that? Work 12 – 15 hours a week for 1 – 4 years and create a serious residual income?
It’s a no brainer really, considering most people will work 40 hours a week for 40 years of their life to earn peanuts!
So if you want to change your life, get rock solid in your commitment to treat it like a business!
#2 – Commit to a Daily Regimen of Personal Development
I cannot over state how important this is to your success.
Every leader I know is addicted to personal development.
Personal development is the reading, watching and listening to books, blogs, videos and pod casts of motivational and self-help materials.
It can also include business building training material.
The reason this is so important is that you are in business for yourself and as such you do not have a boss over top of you hounding you to make sure you get the work done.
You are on your own. You are your own boss. You have to become self-motivated to get what is required done.
Being in business has it’s ups and downs. You will become frustrated and yes you will even feel like quitting.
Life will also try to get in your way, the trials and tribulations that we all experience will attempt to derail you from doing the work that is required daily to achieve your goal.
OD (over dose) on PD (personal development)
Personal development will keep you on track.
Personal development will keep you motivated and focused on attaining your goals.
My own personal development plan is as follows:
Read 1 chapter from a self-help book every morning.
I am a Christ follower so I also do devotions, pray and read my Bible in the morning.
Before I start working my business for the day I like to watch a motivational video from YouTube.
When I am driving in the car I like to listen to a motivational or business training podcast.
At night before bed I like to read a couple of pages of the self-help book. What you put into your head right before you go to sleep your subconscious focuses on throughout the night.
Do this daily and I can assure you that you will stay on track.
It is so important in my opinion that I would go so far as to say that if you don’t do something like this you will fail. That is how serious it is.
#3 – Learn How to Recruit
Recruiting is by far the most important component to your success. Yes team building is important but it is hard to build a team if you have not recruited anyone.
No question recruiting is what you want to focus on. In fact if you never paid any attention to the people you sponsored but became very good at recruiting you would still go on to create a serious income.
The reason for this is that eventually you would recruit people who do not need your help and who would push on and figure the business out on their own.
Now clearly it would be stupid not to work with the people you sponsor into your downline, but this makes my point that recruiting is paramount to your success.
Learn Just One More Skill (you can do it)
When I first realized that all of my dreams could come true if I focused on learning simply one more skill set in life, I got very excited.
Whether you realize it or not you have learned countless skills over the course of your life. And you most definitely have the ability to learn this one also.
That is the great thing, recruiting is a learned skill. People are not born with the skill; it is something that everyone has to learn. And it is not a hard skill to learn. Anyone can learn it if they wish to.
You see this is not a sales business. It truly is not. It is a sharing business.
Learning how to become a top-notch sales person is difficult. Learning how to get good enough at sharing your mlm opportunity to make a 6 – 7 figure income is not difficult.
All we do during the sponsoring process is:
- Meet new people (start with the ones you already know)
- Develop a relationship (rapport) with them. (which simply means make friends, something you have been doing since you were a kid)
- When the time is right ask them if they are “open” to looking at your opportunity
- If they are open provide them with a 3rd party tool that does all of the selling and telling for.
- Follow up and collect their decision. (Is it for them, is it not for them, or do they need more information.)
- Rinse and Repeat!
It is a simple thing process that pays big dollars. Do not over complicate it. Go to work learning how to master this and the sky is the limit for you.
All right we are now going to look at the most important piece of the process I just shared with you. The meeting new people piece…
#4 – Meet New People
The very first place you want to start is your warm market, the people you already know.
The warm market is the foundation of every successful long-term organization. Always has been and always will be.
Don’t fall for the lie that you can skip this market, if you do I promise you that you will have a hard time building a long term business.
It does not even matter if you personally have no success recruiting people from your warm market; the point is that it has to be part of your business plan because others on your team can and will have success with it.
It is the most duplicable activity your team can engage in and you want them engaging in it, in fact you NEED them engaging in it.
Here is a post that shows you why it is crucial you start out with this market and how to do it the right way.
After you have tapped your warm market, you need to find ways of meeting new people.
It is the most important part of the recruiting process, without new people to develop relationships with in order to see if they are open to looking at your opportunity you have no business, you are done.
My Top 3 Ways of Finding Prospects
There are many ways of meeting new people, 3 of my favorite are:
#1 Living Your Life. It is just as it sounds. While you are out doing what you are going to do anyway in the run of the day you might as well intentionally take note of the people around you.
I am not saying you run around soliciting people. Not at all. Just intentionally look to make connections.
This could be while you are at your kids sporting events, out to dinner, at a networking function, at a party, at the bank, at your hair salon. Just be a normal person and make friends. Add them to your social media account to further the relationship. This is a simple concept that anyone can do.
You can learn more about this simply but effective method here!
#2 Social Media. Platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook have been a game changer for our industry. Never before has it been so simple to meet people. You can literally do it from the comfort of your home.
Yes there is a right way and a wrong way to do this.
And of course most people in our industry are doing it all wrong. They are spamming the heck out of everyone and anyone they come across and completely ruining their chances of success and giving the industry a terrible name.
The right way is to treat social media like going to a party. Look nice, be friendly, tell jokes, meet new people, have great conversations, be likable, make friends!
I have tons of training on using social media the right way on this blog, here are few to get you started:
