Social Media is a complete and utter game changer for network marketers if you use it the right way. But the opposite is also true, if you don’t use it the right way it will be a total waste of your time.
In this post I am going to show you exactly how to use social media for network marketing.
I am going to share with you the best social media platform to use to build your business.
And I am going to give you a step by step plan that you can implement today to start seeing results in your business.
So let’s get at er…
What Social Media Platform to Use
There are hordes of different social media platforms out there and new one’s are popping up all of the time. It actually can get very overwhelming trying to figure out what to do and what platform to use.
The strategies and techniques I am going to share with you can be used on any of them. However I would recommend you stick to the more popular platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, Youtube, LinkedIn and of course Facebook.
I would also recommend that you pick one of these and master it before moving onto to using others.
It is mind blowing how quickly you can get lost and overwhelmed if you try and use all of them at once. Baby steps is the key to success in your Network Marketing business on social media.
Personally I always recommend that people start out using Facebook. It is the biggest of all of them and it continues to grow at an astounding rate and it simply has more functions available to you to be able to build your business with.
Before we get into my social media strategies it is important that you get a good understanding of who the people are that see success in this network marketing… because the truth is it does take a certain person to be successful.
Now the good news is that by using social media anyone can become that person…
The People Who Have Success in Network Marketing
There is a saying in this industry that I first heard years ago from Eric Worre when I was working with him:
“You are either rewarded or penalized for the life you lived prior to joining network marketing”
What that means is if before joining your business you were already successful in life then the people who you share your opportunity with are going to listen to you and as a result you will have a high enrolment rate.
What that means is if prior to joining your company you had already created a large network of people who know, like and trust you than you are going to have success out of the gates in this industry.
So what this basically means is that the people who have influence over others are the people who have success in this industry.
I experienced and witnessed this first hand in my own business. You can read my story here.
Prior to getting involved in network marketing I owned a weight loss company and that same year it was actually nominated as one of the top startup companies in our city.
As a result people knew me as knowing something about business. People knew me as a mover and shaker. People liked me as I was out in the community meeting and getting to know people. And people trusted me as someone who knew what I was talking about when it came to having success in business.
So guess what happened when I asked them to look at my opportunity? They did, and a large percentage of them joined my business.
Why?
Because I had influence over a large group of people who knew, liked and trusted me.
Same thing happened to my brother. He was the Entrepreneur of the year in our city. And when he approached the people he knew about the business opportunity they listened and joined him for the same reasons they joined me. He had Influence.
I saw this repeat over and over again in our business with other people of influence…
And what was interesting was the people who had this Influence came from ALL walks of life. It did not matter how they had created the influence; as long as they had created influence than people listened.
I saw athletes, preachers, coaches, teachers, politicians, doctors, realtors, executives, fitness instructors, you name it, as long as they had influence and people knew, liked and trusted them they were able to get many people to look at their opportunity and a high percentage to join.
This was because somewhere, somehow they had created influence over their tribe, over the people they knew. And as a result these people came to know, like and trust them.
Once you have influence people will listen to you and take you seriously. Which means they will look at your opportunity when you ask them to and a high percentage will take it seriously because of your influence and many will join.
And here is the beautiful thing about social media…
Following what I am going to show you anyone, yes even you, can create influence doing exactly what I am about to share with you.
The Basics of Building Your Business on Social Media
OK so next what I am going to do is give you a high elevated overview of how you can use social media to create influence and build your network marketing business and then I will get into the specifics of the how to.
Again we are going to focus on Facebook in this post, but the principles work the same on any of the social media platforms you choose to use.
So to start with you are going to find your tribe. Call them your target market.
Who do you want to recruit into your business? Who do you want to engage with on a daily basis?
Ideally this would be a group of people that you can relate with. A group of people who share the same interests as you.
For this example let’s use health and wellness and specifically weight loss.
Let’s pretend that you are a person who just loves health and wellness.
So you decide you are going to create a brand around yourself as a weight loss expert.
What you are going to do is go out and provide value in groups and pages on social media (facebook in this example). Value such as weight loss tips, recipes, motivation, fitness routines, etc.
Overtime as you are consistent in providing this value people are going to come to see you as an expert in this field. As someone who is helping them with their problem.
As a result they are going to start engaging with you in these groups. They are going to start asking you questions and thanking you for your help.
Guess what you have started to create influence over them. They have started to know, like and trust you.
Your Friends List Will Now Grow
Now they are going to become your friends on Facebook, they will either add you or you will add them.
On your personal profile you are going to continue providing value to your target market the same way as you have in the groups, except you will also start to include details of your life such as selfies of you out having fun with friends and family which allows your new friend to start getting to know you even better.
You are going to like and comment on the stuff they post. You are going to have private messenger conversations. By doing so you are building the trust and they are getting to know you better.
Now as you continue to provide value and lifestyle posts you will carefully sprinkle in posts about your business. And following what I show you, you will have people start to reach out to you about your business and/or product and you will reach out to them.
That is how you build influence and that is how you use social media for building your network marketing business the right way.
Alright let’s get into the step by step process to make this happen for you.
Setting Up Your Social Media Profile
Step number one is to get your profile set up correctly. People need to see you as the person of influence you are striving to become.
So get rid of the garbage. Clean up your profile. Just like spring cleaning toss out the junk.
Negative posts need to go. Post of you a chugging beers need to go. Political posts need to go. Unflattering pictures need to go. Get rid of Candy Crush updates, serious business people don’t have time to play games.
Let people see into your life but keep what they see as the good side of your life. Nobody wants to join a negative Nancy. And nobody is going to take you seriously if you are perceived as a wild party person, or someone who is all over the place playing games and not taking their business seriously.
Make sure your profile picture is a good picture of you. Make sure it is just you in the picture. And be smiling!
Your cover photo should be of you living life, having fun, doing something people would look at and say wow that is fun, nice, interesting, etc. You can include pictures of your family in the cover photo.
Remove any mention of your company or products name. You do not want them to be able to figure out what you are doing on their own, that cuts you out of the picture. You want to be able to control this.
Finding Your Tribe
Alright so now that your profile is set up you are going to head out and find your tribe.
Continuing on with the weight loss example you would go out and join 3 – 5 groups and pages based around weight loss.
You are now going to start adding the value to these groups. Now notice I said provide value. I did not say to go out and spam your product or opportunity in these groups. In fact never mention them. Instead provide value.
As indicated above, value could be motivation on weight loss, tips on losing weight, recipes, fitness tips, etc. Spend time daily learning about your topic and just share what you learn.
On top of sharing value you want to like and comment on other peoples posts. Be a normal human being, be helpful, be fun, be informative, be friendly, be caring. Just engage with the people.
Eventually as people in the group come to know, like and trust you they will start to see you as a person who can help them. As a result they will start to follow you and add you as a Facebook friend.
Which leads us back to your profile…
Growing Your Audience on Social Media
Alright now you are starting to grow your audience. People are starting to pay attention to you and look to you for information and help.
On your personal profile you are still not going to name your network marketing company or product. You do not want to be a spammy tammy. To many network marketers do that and that is why they fail on social media.
Instead you are going to continue to add value based on what your target market is looking for, just like you did in the group.
On top of that you are now going to post lifestyle posts. Pictures of you out enjoying life, doing things with your family, hiking, boating, skiing, out to dinner, birthday parties, whatever you like. Post things that are going to allow your prospects into your life. Things that are going to allow them to get to know you better.
If you are doing 10 posts a week 6 of them should be value based, 3 of them should be of your lifestyle and… yup the last 1 is going to be business or product based.
How to Post About Your Business
If you post like I just taught you then it is more than acceptable to make a post now and again about your business or product.
People will not regard it as spam and in fact they will be intrigued by it if you do it correctly and they will want to know more about what you are doing and will even ask you about it.
Now do not go all spammy here… do not start asking people if they are interested in a business. Do not start trying to get them to buy your product. That is spam and does not work.
Instead what you want to do is make a curiosity post.
Make people curious as to what you are doing and they will want to know more.
A curiosity post could be a selfie of you drinking down your weight loss shake and saying something like: “Wish me luck, excited to try this new weight loss program my friend lost 15 lbs on, here we go”.
And that is it… people will comment on your post, some will ask what it is you are doing. They will be interested in knowing because you did not tell them.
Now the key here is to send a private message to the people that ask. Do not tell them on the post. In the private message tell them you saw their note on your comment and ask them if they would like you to send them some information.
Then just walk them through whatever your company uses to present the product to prospects.
You can do the same thing if your focus is recruiting distributors. Simply make a curiosity post about your business. Get creative and put your own flare to it.
