It is a true tragedy in my opinion that the failure rate is so high in the MLM industry. And it should not be because learning How to Succeed in a MLM Business is not difficult and if more people actually took the time to learn how to become a success in their business the failure rate would be significantly lower.
The problem is that most people typically fall into this business. Meaning a friend or family member convinced them to join. Most people who join a business opportunity were not out looking for one.
As a result, what happens in most cases is these people are left to try to figure out how to build their business on their own, with no guidance of training what so ever.
As a result, many people quit out of frustration, before ever really giving it a real chance.
It is a shame, because as I said learning how to succeed is not difficult. It is a very straightforward and simple process.
So my goal in this blog post is to walk you through the process and show you the steps you need to take to become a success in your MLM business.
Step #1 – Make the Decision You Will Succeed
This is by far the most important step. If you make a rock solid commitment to yourself that you are going to figure this thing out no matter what than your success is not a matter of “If”, but rather a matter of “when”.
The old saying that the only way you can fail is if you quit is bang on.
Is it going to be easy? No. Are you going to have frustrations and feel like quitting? Yes
But can you figure this out and make it to the top? You bet you can. And will it be worth it when you do? You better believe it will be my friend.
If countless others have made it to the top, guess what? You can too!
The opportunity is the same for everyone. The only difference between a person who makes it and a person who does not, is the person them self.
People from every single walk of life have become successful. I can guarantee you that someone just like you, who has the exact same situations as you has made it to the top. If they can do it so can you!
In the end, it is simply a decision. It is a decision that you alone have to make!
Step #2 – Treat it Like a Business
Most people who fail treat it like a hobby. Actually less than a hobby. Most people if they have a hobby are actually quite committed to their hobby and will spend a few hours a week doing it.
Most people in the MLM industry spend more time on their hobby than they do working their business. And they wonder why they fail.
Every business takes work, time, dedication and energy. An MLM business is no different.
If you treat, it like a hobby it is going to pay you like a hobby would. If you treat it like the powerful business it is, than it will pay you accordingly.
If you purchased a franchise for a few 100k or spent your life savings on starting a business from the ground up, I can assure you that you would work your ass off to make sure the business because a success.
You must have the same mindset with your MLM business. There is no way around it; you have to put in the work on a daily basis.
Now the good part is that you can do so on a part-time basis. It fact it would be difficult to actually work more than 15 hours a week on your business.
However, you need to put those 12 – 15 hours of work in. And it cannot be pretend work. You need to focus your time on the rain making activities.
Step #3 – How a Big Business is Built
It is key to understand exactly what we do here.
How you actually build your business.
The secret to your success is found in getting a large group of people to perform simple business building activities over a long period of time.
If you can accomplish that, you win and win big time.
The first step to that is getting the large group of people. This is referred to as prospecting, recruiting and sponsoring.
Just like a new Realtor, financial planner or any business starting out, you want to start by letting the people you already know, know about your business.
This is called your warm market and it is an integral part of your businesses success. The reason for that is if you do it correctly, it works very well. I was able to create a 6 figure income by approaching my warm market so I know it works well.
The other reason is that it duplicates. Because it is a simple activity, anyone and everyone on your team can perform it successfully. Which means it duplicates. Which is very important.
This is how a large organization or downline is built and part of the secret to success I just revealed to you. Focusing on your warm market will ensure that your large group of people (your downline) are performing simple business building activities over a long period of time.
There is nothing simpler than people asking the people they already know if they are open to looking at an opportunity.
Let me show you how easy this is…
Warm Market Recruiting
I will use my experience as the example.
When I first joined my MLM business, I sat down and took about 2 days to make a huge list of everyone I knew. I wrote down the names and phone numbers of over 250 people on cue cards. Each person got their own cue card.
I than picked up the phone, yes I used the phone and you need to also. Do not depend on texting, emailing or sending private messages on social media. Pick up the phone!
I started smiling and dialing.
Now it is important to understand I did not try to sell to these people. We are NOT in the sales business. We are truly in the sharing business. We share information with people and see if it is something, they want to do.
So I called up the people on the list and simply said:
“Hey John-Boy, its Robb, how’s things? Listen the reason I am giving you a call is I recently started a new business and I was wondering if you would do me the favor and check it out for me”?
With your warm market, I recommend that you ask people to do you a favor, I find it works well.
Your goal is just to get people to look at the information and I find this is the best approach to make that happen with your warm market.
Most people either said sure they would look at it. Others asked what is it?
If they asked, what is it I would say I have a video I can send you that will explain it all, I am new at this and I do not want to waste your time trying to explain it as I will mess it all up.
Most people will than say sure I will take a look at it.
The big thing is to not allow yourself to become stuck trying to explain what it is. Don’t try to sell or convince people. Simply see if they will do you the favor of taking a look at it.
Now you want to provide them with the information.
Use a 3rd Party Tool
It is important to use a 3rd Party Tool to do this.
A 3rd Party tool is anything other than YOU that does the selling and telling about your opportunity.
It could be a:
- Conference call
- Facebook group
- Hotel presentation
- Home presentation
It is important that you use a 3rd party tool because your prospect sees that you are not doing the selling which means they will not have to do the selling if they join. This is a big deal.
If you try to sell your prospect on your opportunity, they are going to think they will have to do the same thing to their friends and family and most people hate selling and will not join as a result.
Let the professional tools designed by the experts do the selling for you.
Follow Up, Follow Up, Follow Up
After they have agreed to taking a look at your opportunity, ask them when they will be able to watch it or check it out.
If they say I can watch it tonight at 6pm, tell them you will call them back at 7pm to see what they thought about it.
Then make sure you call them back at that set time. Most people blow this part. They simply don’t bother following up and expect their prospect to call them back if they are interested.
It does NOT work like that. Nobody will call you back. Life gets in the way and people just forget about it. You must follow up with them.
My Secret Closing Technique
Now when you call them back use this closing technique:
“Hey John-boy, Robb here, did you get a chance to check out the information?”
“yes, perfect, what did you like about it?”
Do not ask them what they thought about it; ask them what they liked about it. That is a big difference.
Now let them tell you all of the things they liked about it.
And now here is the kicker. When they are done telling you all of the things they liked about it, simply say:
“It sounds to me like you are ready to get started”!
Now say nothing! It will be an awkward silence but fight the urge to say anything.
Your prospect is going to give you one of three answers:
Yes its sounds good, I’m ready. (sign them up right than and there)
No it’s not for me. (put them in your follow up calendar to call again in 3 – 6 months, you never know when people’s situation has changed and when they might be interested)
It sounds good but I need more information or I have a question (do not blow it now by going into sales and convincing mode, simply provide them with another 3rd party tool that can answer their questions.)
Get Your Team Building
As soon as you sponsor someone into your business, you need to get them off to a fast start.
The quicker they can see some success the better.
Most MLM teams have a training site. Get your team member through it quickly and get them into action doing what I just showed you how to do.
But do not get stuck in the trap of playing manager.
You want to be a good sponsor and show your team how to build the business and get them going correctly but you are not their boss.
This is a volunteer army, some are going to do big things, some are going to do OK, and some are going to do just a little and some are going to do nothing and quit.
There is nothing you can do about that.
Your job is to sponsor them, get them trained and off to a fast start and than go back to sponsoring more people.
Your main job is to be sponsoring.

What Happens When I Run Out of People?
Now the big question I always get is what happens when I run out of the people I know, who do I prospect than?
The short answer is you find new people. People are everywhere.
Keep this simple.
Remember the following is all we do in this business:
- Meet new people
- Build relationships with the new people (aka make friends)
- Ask them if they are open to looking at an opportunity
- Provide them with information via a 3rd party tool
- Follow up and collect their decision
- Rinse and repeat.
So yes finding new people to meet is an integral part of the equation and there are 3 methods I recommend you use to do so:
Just Live Your Life
All you are doing here is carrying on doing what you are already doing, but now you want to pay more attention to the people around you and for opportunities to meet them.
It’s called making friends!
I am not saying you should go out and start soliciting strangers or any of that nonsense. All you want to do is look for opportunities to meet people.
And like I said you can do this while you are doing what you are already doing in the course of your day.
It could be while at the gym, sporting events, kids activities, chamber of commerce meet and greets, parties, etc, etc.
Just get good at striking up conversations. Once you meet someone, find them on social media and add them as a friend. Be sure to send a nice message to them.
Depending on how aggressive you want to get at this, you can easily meet 10 – 60 new people each and every month. It’s a simple but effective strategy.
Social media sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram are tremendous platforms for meeting hordes of new friends.
It is very possible and easily done to be able to meet anywhere from 10 – 20 new people each and every day.
Let’s be conservative and say you set a goal of meeting 3 new people per day. That is 90 new prospects for your MLM business each and every month. That is a big deal.
There are definitely techniques and strategies you need to learn before you start doing this as there is most definitely a right way and a wrong way to prospect people on social media and unfortunately most network marketers are doing it all wrong.

Using internet-marketing strategies such as blogging, paid advertising and video marketing has become a very popular recruiting method used by some networkers.
They refer to it as Attraction Marketing.
The basics of it is you use those strategies to attract your ideal prospects (target market) to you. You create content (blog post, video, ad) that will help them solve their problems. They start to follow you and start to engage with you and your content.
Over time as you, consistently create valuable content you become seen as an expert in your prospects mind.
Everyone wants to work with the expert. Everyone wants to partner up with a person they perceive as being able to help them achieve success.
Part of your marketing funnel will be promoting your MLM Business to these people. And because of the influence you have created with them through your valuable content many of them will become interested in learning more and working with you.
It’s a very powerful strategy, but it is not for everyone because it takes a long time to get results, it costs money and it does have a steep learning curve.
