Today we are going to look at how to recruit in network marketing and why I say that it should be your number one priority and focus if you want to build a large and profitable organization.
Building a large and profitable business does require that you learn 2 skills:
- how to recruit
- team building (duplication)
There is no question that team building is important but in my personal opinion recruiting is the more important skill set out of the two and where you should focus a significant portion of your time.
These two trainings will show you how to build a team:
How to Build Network Marketing Leaders
I have said it before and I will say it again…
If all you ever did was get good at recruiting, brought in new distributors and did nothing with them I believe you will eventually build a successful network marketing business.
This is because if you are recruiting 5 – 10 new reps monthly you are eventually going to sponsor leaders, people who will want it so bad that they will go and figure out how to build the business on their own without you.
Now clearly I am NOT suggesting you build your business this way…
…you most definitely need to be building a team and working with the new distributors you recruit. But it makes my point that recruiting is the number 1 skill set to learn.
You MUST Get Good at Recruiting
In fact I would go so far as to say if you don’t make an effort to at least become just OK at recruiting at minimum 2 new distributors every month than you are going to have a very tough time building a business.
I heard Dani Johnson once say that she did not care if you were making $100,000 per month or $100 per month if you were not enrolling new distributes monthly your business was failing!
Now I don’t know about you but when I heard this I got excited, a light bulb turned on in my head.
It dawned on me that all I had to do was learn 1 skill set and I could live the life of my dreams. Learn 1 more thing and success was mine.
Do you realize how many things you have learned in your lifetime? How many skill sets you have learned. It is countless.
And all you have to do is learn just 1 more.
And guess what learning how to recruit in network marketing is not hard. It is not rocket science.
It is a very straight forward skill to learn, and anyone with desire, commitment and persistence can learn it and also become very good at it.
OK so now you understand the importance of getting good at recruiting let’s get into how it is done…
How to Recruit in Network Marketing Explained
The first thing you need to understand is that there is a difference between prospecting and recruiting.
Prospecting is the act of actually going out and finding prospects for your business. There are a whole hosts of ways this can be accomplished.
There are offline strategies where you would go out in the community and meet people.
There are internet marketing strategies such as attraction marketing where you would use techniques like blogging, video marketing and Facebook pages to find prospects
And there is social media prospecting where you are using your personal profile on sites like Facebook or LinkedIn to prospect and meet people.
Plus a whole hosts of other avenues.
This post is not going to get into all of these prospecting methods in detail. However, the following links are to trainings on 3 of my favorite ways to find prospects to recruit:

What is Network Marketing Online
Attraction Marketing (Internet Marketing)
Recruiting is when you get down to the nitty gritty and actual approach someone about your opportunity with the intention of enrolling them into your business.
This is what we are going to dive into on this blog post:
Recruiting the Right Way
Clearly there is a right way and a wrong way to recruit. And guess what most people are doing it all wrong.
Examples of doing it wrong would be:
- Spamming your opportunity or product link all over the place on social media. On your page, on your friends walls and in groups. This does not work and has never worked, so stop doing it if you are.
- Contacting complete strangers on social media and sending them your product or opportunity link. Always get permission before you send a link (more on this alter).
- Making posts that say something like “I am ready to help another 5 people make $1000 this month, message me if you’re interested”.
- Begging people to join your business. Coming across weak and desperate. Chasing the same person 20 times after they have said no.
If you’ve done any of these things relax it’s all part of the learning process, in fact I would bet that every single one of us have all probably been guilty of at least 1 of these if not more…
Instead of those things you want to do the following…
Have Posture – Be a Boss
Do not beg people to join your business. Do not sound apologetic when asking someone to look at your business. Do not sound weak.
You have something they need. You truly do and if you do not believe this you need to start. Network Marketing is the better way, plain and simple. It is proven, it is not on trial. We have the better way.
You do not need anyone person to join you. That friend you have been trying to recruit forget it, you don’t need them, move on.
Sound confident, sound in charge. When you prospect be a Boss! People are attracted to confidence.
Come across like you have something great and your prospects need it but that you don’t need them and your results are going to increase significantly.
Get Your Energy Up – Fire it up Baby
This goes hand in hand with having posture.
When I first got started in network marketing I did so because I had a good buddy who was crushing it. And I knew this guy and I knew he did not have anything special that I did not have. So I knew that if he was doing it I could as well.
So man I got excited. I got fired up. My energy was high.
The first couple weeks of recruiting I have no idea what I even said to people. None of it probably made any sense what so ever, but I was excited and had high energy and guess what…
Yup I enrolled a pile of people, something like 18 in my first two weeks and a whole ton more in the weeks to follow.
Why?
Well one of the reasons was I was so fired up and jacked up out of my mind that people wanted to know what the heck was going on. What had Robb so fired up.
So before you make a recruiting call get fired up, do push ups, jumping jacks, listen to some motivation audios, read some success stories of people making it happen in your company.
Do whatever it takes to get your energy up.
Are they Open to Looking at Your Opportunity?
OK remember how I said never send your opportunity link to a prospect until they have said they’re open to taking a look?
This is important. And it also goes hand in hand with having posture and not sounding desperate.
When prospecting you want to come across that you do not need the prospect to join. You want to be a bit nonchalant.
Kind of like you are doing them a favor and just reaching out to see if they are open to taking a look and if so great and if not no big deal you were just checking.
Saying something like:
“Hey John-boy how goes the battle man? Listen I know we have not chatted in a while and I would love to catch up some time, but it just dawned on me that I have never shared with you what I do. I actually have an internet business I build from home and I think you might find it interesting, I’m not 100% sure but I thought I would just throw it out there and see if you are open to taking a look, if so great I can get you some information if not no big deal.”
That’s it.
No pressure, calm cool and collective and just seeing if they are open. It’s powerful and completely different from what most failing network marketers are doing.
This works really well with the 2nd to last strategy I train on in this post:
How to Get Leads for My Network Marketing Business
Your Super Power is 3rd Party Tools
Alright so this is a powerful strategy to learn when it comes to learning how to recruit.
You need to learn to take yourself out of the equation. You must let 3rd party tools do everything for you when it comes to recruiting.
A third party tool could be:
- Website
- Webinar
- Facebook group
- Home meeting
- Hotel meeting
- Group chat with your upline
- 3 way calls
Basically anything that shares the opportunity with your prospect or answers their questions except for YOU!
You must not present the opportunity with your prospect and you must not answer their questions. You have to let the tools do it for you.
If you don’t you will a hard time recruiting.
This is because everything you are doing to recruit your prospect they are watching. And they are saying to themselves I have to do what Robb just did.
And guess what nobody wants to sell.
Nobody thinks they have to time to learn to get good at selling.
Nobody wants to have to explain the compensation plan or the ingredient of the products to their prospects.
The more you say to your prospect the further you are pushing them away.
Instead, what you want to do is show them how easy this business is by pointing them to 3rd party tools that do ALL of the selling and telling for you AND them if they join.
When you ask them if they are open to taking a look at what you are doing and they say yes, you call them up and you let them know you are sending them a link to get all the details.
When they ask what is it act busy and say you don’t have the time to explain it but the link you send will have all of the information. Get a time to follow up with them and be gone.
Then follow up. Ask them what they liked about it. When they have questions and they will do not answer them.
Say that is a great question and then either give them a new link to get that question answered or better yet get them on a phone call or group chat with your upline to answer the questions.
Continue to point them to a new 3rd party tool until they have enough information to make a decision on whether your network marketing business is for them or not.
The Fortune is in the Follow Up
How many times have you heard that before?
But it is so freaking true. It blows my mind how many people will actually go through the process of asking someone to look at the opportunity but then never bother to follow up.
The statistics are that people need to see your opportunity or product 7 times before they will join or buy.
You need to get regimented with your follow up. Get a calendar out and put follow-ups in it.
Keep following up with your prospect until they have enough information to make a decision on whether the opportunity is for them or not.
And if it is not guess what you do?
Yup you follow up some more. Now I am not talking right away. But you put them in your calendar to follow up 3 – 6 months later.
Say something like…
“Just checking back in, I know you said the opportunity was not for you 6 months ago, but I thought I would just follow up to see if anything has changed and whether you want to take another look.”
This way you always have people to recruit into your network marketing business. You never run out of people to prospect.
And if you are using the social media strategies for recruiting that I train on your prospect is going to continue to see your posts and you never know when the time is right for someone.
Become a follow up machine.
The Final Piece of the Successful Recruiting Puzzle
YOU!
You are the difference maker my friend. The company is the same for everyone, the strategies are the same for everyone, the opportunity is the same for everyone. The difference is you and whether you are going to take what you have learned and get into action and stay there.
You now know exactly how to recruit in network marketing and if you just go out and do it success will happen. But you have to get rock solid committed to doing what is required over and over again day in and day out.
That is the difference maker.
I believe in you and know you have what it takes. If I can help you out just drop a comment in below and I will do what I can.
