When I began my journey into the wild world of MLM it became very apparent to me early on that the key to my success would be in my ability to be able to sponsor a large amount of new distributors into my downline on a very consistent basis. And so my journey into scouring the internet searching for “How to Recruit in MLM” began.
Needless to say It was not a fun journey by any means. In fact, it was extremely painful, frustrating and costly.
If you have spent even 5 seconds searching this topic, you know exactly what I am talking about. There is so much junk out there and so many people telling you to do this or do that it will literally make your head spin.
One of the toughest things you are going to run up against are the savvy internet marketers who know that most people in multi level marketing or network marketing struggle with recruiting and being the savvy marketers they are they will try to sell you on their magic bullet or easy way to recruit system.
In essence, they take advantage of your desire to succeed.
Watch out for any system or guru who tells you that they have the secret sauce to allow you to create success easily. It does NOT exist.
The only way to the top is by becoming good to great at recruiting. And in my experience there are 4 methods of doing so that work.
Today I am going to explain the 4 of them to you and then I will point you to other blog posts on this site to help you learn more about each of them.
4 Proven Strategies for MLM Recruiting
Now there is no doubt that there are more strategies than the four I am going to discuss today. And some of them do work and people do have success with them.
However I have tried pretty much every recruiting method known to man and the 4 I am going to discuss today are the ones I recommend because I believe them to be the most effective and 3 of the 4 are also the most duplicable.
What is Duplication Any Way?
Duplication is a concept you need to understand and is a key component to your success in this industry.
It basically means that whatever you do to build your business needs to be simple enough that the person with the least amount of skills on your team (within reason) will be able to perform the same activity as well.
If they cannot do what you are doing then you have no business. Your team will not grow.
What you do is going to duplicate within your team or try to. Your team is going to watch what you are doing when it comes to recruiting and they are going to try to do the same thing.
So you MUST make sure that not only do the activities you are performing work but that they are not too complicated for your team to perform.
So again, the last strategy I am going to cover in this post does not always fit that criteria so you need to be careful with it. But more on that later.

- Your Warm Market
- Living Your Life
- Social Media
- Attraction Marketing (not for everyone)
If you can incorporate the first 3 of these and possibly the 4th into your business building plan you are going to get great results when it comes to recruiting and you will build a large downline and residual income check there is no doubt.
Let’s look briefly at each of these…
Warm Market is the Foundation of Your Business
When I say your warm market, I am referring to the people that you already know when you join your business.
Network Marketing should really be called relationship marketing. Because it truly is built, on the relationships you have and the relationships you are able to form moving forward.
Many people hate the thought of trying to recruit their friends and family and they try to find ways to avoid it. Do not make this mistake; it is a huge mistake if you do.
Remember when I explained duplication?
There is no strategy out there that duplicates like the warm market. If you learn how to do it correctly and teach it to your team, it works very well, everyone on your team will be able to do it, and your organization will grow.
Not Everyone Has the Same Goal as You
Something you need to understand is that not everyone on your team has the same drive to become a raging success as you obviously do and as such, they will not want to take the time to learn strategies that are more complicated.
- A small percentage of people will have the same drive you do to create a serious income.
- However, there will be a larger percentage of people who will be content to make a few hundred dollars a month.
- Moreover, there will be another percentage of people who will be happy just making enough money per month to cover the cost of their product.
The warm market allows these people to accomplish their goals AND as a result, it allows your team to grow and duplicate.
If you have 100 people simply sharing the opportunity with the on average 200 people they know, you are going to see growth in your business.
If you skip the warm market and try to get everyone on your team to engage in the more complicated activities a larger percentage of them will end up doing nothing and you will miss this tremendous growth opportunity.
Plus, there are many organizations in network marketing that only focus on the warm market and have created massive businesses and income checks.
I know this firsthand, because I created a 6-figure income starting out by only focusing on my warm market. If you do it right it works incredibly well.
So learn the right way to target this market and make it the foundation of your business.
Living Your Life Recruiting
There are many teams in this industry that recommend that their downline head out into their community and start soliciting complete strangers.
They call it the 3-foot rule. Anyone who comes within 3 feet of you is a prospect and you should try to recruit them.
I will not say this does not work. But it certainly is not duplicable because not many people on your team will do that for long. Nobody wants to solicit complete strangers out in public and if you get anyone to try it, they will not do it for long as it is painful!
So this is NOT what I am referring to when I say living your life recruiting.
What I am referring to and recommending is a very simple strategy.
When you are out living your life, doing what you normally do on a regular basis simply take note of sharp people around you and get to know them.
Example From My Life
The best example I can provide and one that I find very effective is if you have children. I am sure they are involved in activities such as sports and dance, etc.
I have 4 kids and they are involved in all kinds of activities.
As a result, I am at sporting events on a very regular basis.
Guess who else is there? Yup the parents of all the other kids.
Now I do NOT immediately just start soliciting these people. What I do is simply network.
I am friendly. I have conversations and I get to know them at the games, practices, road trips and award banquets, etc.
As I meet them and get to know them, I will then add them to my social media accounts (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc) and further develop the relationship.
Then when the time is right, I simply ask them if they are open to looking at my opportunity.
That is it!
Very simple, very effective and highly duplicable.
You can do this exact same thing all over the place when you are living your life. You can meet and get to know people at work, sporting events, church, chamber of commerce meeting, the gym, parties you are invited to, etc.
Let’s be conservative and say you meet 5 people a week doing this (which is low balling it big time), that results in 20 new people a month, or 240 per year. And if your whole team is doing this, that adds up to thousands of new prospects for your business.
Don’t make it awkward, just be a normal friendly human being and meet people while you are out doing what you are already doing.
Social Media Prospecting
When it comes to recruiting there has never been a tool like social media. When it first came out it instantly became a game changer for the industry.
Now instead of having to figure out ways of meeting or soliciting people for your business, all you had to do was turn on your computer and log into your Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter account and you literally had millions and millions of people to prospect at your finger tips.
As time has gone on, social media has become more and more entrenched into our daily lives. People spend countless hours on these platforms daily. It is where they go to be entertained, informed and to socialize.
Countless home based businesses have now been built using nothing other than social media. It has created a boom in this industry.
People who would never have been able to build a successful organization using the old school methods are literally crushing it online.
Move to This Right After Your Warm Market
I highly recommend that this method becomes the step 2 strategy for you and your team after you have gone to your warm market. Get all of your team focused on working this strategy.
But make sure you and your team are doing it right.
Because truth be told, most networkers are doing it completely wrong and are failing miserably at it and they are hurting our industry as a result.
The key with social media recruiting is focusing on friends first! But what most people are focusing on is spamming first.
They are posting their product and company links everywhere and are approaching complete strangers, harassing them about their business before any relationship is established at all.
Don’t do this!
In fact never provide your business links to a prospect unless they have first asked or agreed to looking at it.

Attraction Marketing (as an add on strategy)
OK this next strategy has been the topic of much heated debate in the MLM industry.
The reason for this is that it is argued to be not very duplicable. Meaning not many people on your team will want to or be able to do it successfully.
I tend to agree with that sentiment. However, there are many recruiting techniques that are not that duplicable that many teams train on. I have even heard some say that the warm market is not duplicable as not everyone has success with it and if they did we would all be rich.
Which kind of makes sense to me.
I love attraction marketing but I do recognize it is not for everyone.
So the following is the peace I have made with it:
- Focus only 30% of your time on this strategy if you want to use it.
- Work on it in addition to the other methods and not as a replacement to them.
- Focus at least 70% of your time on the other methods.
- Get very good at the other methods.
- Get results from them, train them to your team and show your team the results you are getting from them.
- Then with the extra 30% of your time slowly go to work learning and implementing attraction-marketing strategies.
It will take you a long time to get results and it does cost some money. Because what you are doing is using internet-marketing techniques such as writing blog posts or posting videos and running ads.
Internet marketing takes time to learn and it takes time to get results from.
But once you do start to get some traction and start to see results it can become a very big deal for your business. It is very common for people to have so many highly targeted leads coming in that they are not able to handle them on their own and have to share them with their team. Which is a great problem to have!
So if you can do what I just described and are what I would consider to be a super achiever, someone who is committed to their success and doing whatever they can for as long as they can then I highly recommend you explore this strategy.
