Learning how to prospect for network marketing is like learning any new skill set. It takes time, effort and consistent action to get good at it. But it is a skill set that pays so very well, so I highly recommend that you take the time to get good at it.
There are two factors that go into being good at prospecting.
The first is learning how to always have prospects to share your business opportunity with. This is the skill set of being able to create what I call an Ever Expanding Contact List. Get good at always having people to share your business opportunity with and you can literally write your own ticket in this industry.
In my opinion it is more important than any other skill when it comes to success.
I say this because I don’t care how bad you are at presenting the opportunity or even with team building, if you always have prospects to share your business with the law of averages will come into play and people are going to join you; and eventually you will recruit leaders who are good at both of those things.
So your main focus should be at finding people to share your business with and this is a very simple skill set to learn.
The second skill set you want to get good at is using 3rd
party tools. 3rd party tools are what even the playing field in this business.
I would take someone who has mastered the art of using 3rd
party tools and put them up against the best sales person in the world any day. I guarantee the 3rd
party tool master would wipe the floor with the sales guy. They would always build a larger more profitable team every single time.
Alright let’s dive into both of these skills and I will show you how you can get good at both of them and get out there and recruit yourself a monster team…
The Secret of the Ever Expanding Contact List
I decided to list this one before 3rd party tools because in my opinion as I mentioned this is the number 1 skill set you should strive to develop.
Having people to always share your opportunity with should be your main focus.
When I figured out that all I had to get good at was one skill set and I would be able to create the lifestyle of my dreams I got very excited.
How cool is that? In order to realize all your goals and earn the type income you have always dreamed of you simply need to get good at always having people to share your opportunity with.
Think of all of the things you have learned over the course of your life! It’s a lot. Now you just need to learn one more thing and learning it is very possible for anyone with commitment and desire.
Now I can hear some of you saying “yes that is great Robb but I have run out of people to talk to” or “that’s awesome but where do I find people to talk to”?
The Way it Used to Be
I feel your pain my friend, I remember saying the exact same thing to my upline and getting insanely frustrated when they would tell me to just make a new list. A new freaking list? With what people would be my reply as I had already harassed everyone I knew at least 10 times each.
Join a gym was the response I got. Join a freaking gym?? So let me get this straight. I am trying to build a massive enterprise here and need a lot of people to share my business with and you are telling me to join a gym?
I guess their thought process was I could meet new people at the gym? Who knew, I thought the gym was for working out.
The gym idea did not work for me. I could not get my head around it. I had come to realize that in order to crush it in this business you need to have ton of people to always be adding to your contact list.
Going to the gym was the old school 2 a day brings freedom my way. And I guess they figured instead of hitting the tread mill I could walk around and meet 2 people a day at the gym.
Sorry not my style, I prefer to actually work out when at the gym and the reality is that You need more than 2 people a day to build a large business and a gym certainly is not going to cut it.
So what do I recommend you do?
Nowadays Social Media is the New Gym to Join
Back in the join a gym day there actually were not many options when it came to meeting new people to add to your list.
Nowadays because of the internet and social media, prospecting and adding people to your list has become a breeze. There really is no excuse not to have a continuous supply of fresh prospects to approach about your business.
I would recommend you start on Facebook. Do not try and learn more than one strategy at a time.
Facebook is a gold mine and if you get good at using it there is never any reason to try any other medium. There are highly quality prospects all over the place and people have built 6 & 7 figure incomes using Facebook alone.
Yes there is obviously a right way and a wrong way to use Facebook for prospecting. Most network marketers are doing it completely wrong and are getting nowhere.
Most people are resorting to spamming. They spam their company and product links all over the place. Their wall, their prospects walls, messenger and groups.
Don’t do this, but instead do this…
Build Influence Baby
What you want do is implement a strategy of creating Influence. Creating influence is a well-kept secret in network marketing
Influence is getting people to know, like and trust you.
When you have influence everything changes. Prospecting becomes easy. People actually come to you asking about your business opportunity and if you go to them they are very open to taking a serious look at it.
You want to learn this strategy and get your team doing it as well. I train very extensively on this subject on this blog.
The following are a few places to get started learning how to do this correctly.
The Magic of 3rd Party Tools
OK having a lager list of people to share your business with is a big deal. Now you need to get good at how to approach them to look at your business. There is definitely a right way and a wrong way to do so.
And a major piece of this puzzle is learning the art of using 3rd party tools.
I can’t tell you how many prospects I have had tell me over the years that they don’t want to sell to their friends and family.
And I just shake my head because the only reason they think they would have to sell is because someone else has either told them they have to sell or approached them in such a way that felt very salesy to them.
Success in this business is not selling. It is sharing.
And if that sounds cliché it’s not. This is a sharing business. It is how you create a massive organization.
Sharing makes it so anyone can have success. Not many people are good at selling and not many people want to get good at selling and this is why it is crucial to make sure you are not selling when you prospect and recruit people.
Why You Must Use 3rd Party Tools
If you are trying to sell them on your company or product they will look at you and say: “wow you really know your stuff Robb, you are really great at selling, BUT I can’t do that and I don’t want to”. And they are out!
You have to get very good and disciplined at pointing to 3rd
party tools and let the tools do the selling for you.
A 3rd party tool could be:
- Website or video that presents the opportunity
- Recruiting call
- Facebook groups
- 3 way call with your upline.
You need to get good at inviting them to look at one of these tools.
Simply see if they are open to taking a look at the opportunity and then point them to one of these types of 3rd party tools.
If they ask you what it is about do not give into the temptation to talk about it. Do not go into sales mode. Simply tell them it would take too much time to explain it, but if they are open you can send them a link to a 10 minute video that will provide them with all of the details.
Now when you do this what your prospects thinks is: “hmmm all Robb did was share a website with me, he did not try to sell anything or try and convince me, that seems pretty easy, I can do that”.
This may seem like a simple concept, but it is powerful and it is exactly how large downlines are built.
By doing this people see how simple the business is and are more likely to join and when they do join they are able to build the business because the skill set required to point to 3rd party tools is a simple one that anyone can do.
This creates the magic of duplication. Keep the business building activities simple.
