Learning how to invite for network marketing is one of the most important skills you need to develop if you want to build a successful business.
When you boil it all down, there are really only 2 things we do to become successful in network marketing or MLM and they both have to do with inviting…
- We invite people to look at our business opportunity (prospecting).
- We teach the people who join us how to do the same thing (build a team or downline).
The great news is that learning how to invite people to look at your business is not a difficult thing to learn how to do correctly, however you do have to learn how to do it correctly! 🙂
The majority of people who try network marketing have no idea how to invite people to look at their business. They don’t bother to learn the right way to do it and as a result they blow their chances. Don’t be one of those people.
To help you make sure you do not make that same mistake I am going to give you 8 tips to help you become great at inviting, get more sales, recruit more distributors and build a wildly successful business.
Let’s get at’er…
Tip #1 – Understand What Your Goal is When Inviting
The first thing you need to understand is what it is you are looking to accomplish when you invite someone to look at your network marketing business.
Surprisingly it is not to enroll them into your business or sell them anything.
It is to simply find out whether your MLM business opportunity or product is for your prospect or not. Is it for them or is it not?
Many people have the incorrect notion that their job is to convince someone that they should do this business or buy the product. They believe they have to sell them on it.
That is the wrong way to approach your business. Your job is to simply find out whether it is for them or not.
We start out by finding out if they are open to taking a look at it and if they are we provide them with information to review so they can determine if it is for them or not.
That is it. That is your goal. To find out. Not to sell it to them, to simply find out if they are interested in joining the business or buying the product.
Tip #2 – Inviting is a Sorting Game
With that goal in mind you need to now have the mindset that all you are doing is sorting through people looking for those who are open and ready to join your business or buy your product.
Success in network marketing is a numbers game. Some will tell you this is not true but they are simply wrong. Your success will be found in your ability to always have people to sort through to see if they are open.
The more people you have to sort through the more people are going to join. It is a simple but powerful concept.
When you understand this and get your head right about it, it takes the pressure off of you when recruiting. Your success does not depend on any one particular person joining your business.
If your MLM business is not for someone, wonderful, now you know. You keep on going sifting and sorting. By doing so you will find people who your opportunity is for.
Your main focus is to find people who your opportunity is for. Sign them up, teach them how to do the same thing and keep on sifting and sorting yourself.
Tip #3 – Some Will Some Won’t it Doesn’t Matter
What I am covering here today is hard for some people to wrap their heads around. When they talk to someone about their business they have the mindset that they need this person. They have to have this person join.
This is the wrong mindset and stems from a lack mentality instead of an abundance mentality.
They believe prospects are finite. They believe they will run out of people to share their business with. They believe their success hinges on this prospect joining their business.
None of which is true. Prospects are infinite, people are everywhere.
When you learn how to build your business and prospect the right way you will quickly come to understand that people are everywhere and locating and inviting them to look at your business is easy.
Lots of people you invite to look at your business are not going to be interested, it does NOT matter!
Some will some won’t it doesn’t matter and is really just part of the process and the way it is.
As we covered early, just keep sorting and sifting and finding those people who your business is for.
Tip #4 – Create an Ever Expanding Contact List
So clearly one of the important pieces of the puzzle is to always have people to invite.
One of the ways this is accomplished is by creating an ever expanding contact list. This is a strategy that I learned directly from Mr. Eric Worre of Network Marketing pro, back when we worked together in the same organization.
It is a powerful marketing strategy and it is the complete opposite of what most people do in this business.
There are 2 things that most network marketers do incorrectly in this business.
The first is they have a very small contact list. They create an original list of 10 – 30 people to share their business with. When they have gone through this list they are done.
They do not learn the skills required to meet new people. Their success is 100% dependent on this small list of people. Do this and you will fail, I assure you.
The second thing they do wrong is when they approach someone about their opportunity and that person says no it is not for them, they scratch that person off their list. They never follow back up with them ever again. Big mistake!
How to Become a Professional Network Marketer
Now the following is what a professional network marketer would do instead…
To start with they will learn the skill sets required to always be meeting new people. They understand their success is not contingent on the first 30 people they prospect joining their business.
They understand this is a profession and there are certain skills you need to learn and one of them is meeting new people, meaning always adding new people to their contact list so that it is always growing and expanding.
Success in this industry has a direct correlation to the amount of people in your contact or address book.
The next thing they do is never scratch anyone off their list. If someone says no to the opportunity they do not scratch out their name.
They understand that just because an opportunity is not for someone today does not mean that it will not be for them some time down the road. Instead of scratching them off their list they put a note in their calendar to follow up with them in 3 – 6 months time.
Circumstances change in everyone’s life. Just because someone does not want to build a part-time business now does not mean later on they won’t.
The secret to always having people to share your business with is this ever expanding contact list concept. Meeting new people and following up every 3 – 6 months with the people on your list you have approached previously.
Tip #5 – Have Posture When Inviting
This is a very important tip when it comes to learning how to invite people to look at your network marketing business.
Far too many people get this all wrong. When they approach people they sound weak. They almost sound apologetic that they are contacting them.
You absolutely must develop posture and sound confident.
You have something your prospect needs. You do not need this prospect.
You are doing them a favor by bringing this incredible business opportunity to them. You are doing them a favor by allowing them to take a look at an opportunity that could completely revolutionize their life.
When you have posture and come across confident people will notice. People will be intrigued as to what it is you are doing. People are attracted to confident people.
Whereas when you sound weak and apologetic people are going to be turned off and have no interest.
Tip #6 – Be in a Hurry
This goes along with having posture. Successful people are busy, they do not have time to waste. They have things to do and a business to build.
Do not waste time trying to catch up with people or having idle chit chat before you get down to business. You are a busy business builder, get right to point. Cut to the chase.
People will respect you for not beating around the bush. They will also subconsciously be intrigued with what you have going on as you are not playing around and are clearly taking your business very seriously.
Tip #7 – Don’t Blow it by Not Following Up
This is where so many people blow it. They go through all of the work involved in prospecting, with meeting people and inviting them to look at their business and they never bother to follow up.
This blows my mind why someone would do this, but it happens all the time.
I guess people believe that if someone is interested they will get back to them and let them know they are ready to join and get started.
That never ever happens.
It does not matter if your prospect is fired up and ready to get started after reviewing the information, if you do not follow up with them they are not going to join.
Life will get in the way. They will get busy and forget all about it.
You absolutely must follow up with your prospects.
When you are on the phone with someone and they agree to check out the information, ask them when they will have time to do so and then set a follow up appointment to connect with them at that time.
Write that time into your calendar and make sure you follow up!
Tip #8 – Lead With Your Opportunity
There are 2 camps when it comes to how to build a business in multi level marketing.
The first camp believes you should lead with your product. Get someone interested in the product, get them on as a customer and then approach them about the business opportunity.
The belief is that good customers make the best distributors.
This is a big mistake in my opinion.
I fall into the second camp…
Always always lead with your opportunity first. Approach people about the business opportunity to begin with, if it is not for them you can then see if they would like to become a customer of the product.
The reason for this is simple.
A big business in network marketing is built by building a large downline of people who are also building the business and getting customers.
It is very hard to build much of an income at all by earning commission off of a few customers.
You want hundreds and thousands of people in your organization and that is only accomplished by getting other people in your downline doing the same thing.
All of the big leaders in this industry focus on recruiting new distributors. Success leaves clues and this is a big one.
An Example of How to Invite for Network Marketing
Let’s take a look at some examples of how to invite, don’t use these as a script per se, but use them as a format to follow, come up with your own wording, make them your own.
I’m going to give you 2 examples.
Inviting Example #1
The first example is someone I have known for a long time. They are on my original list I make when I am just getting started. I find asking these people to do me a favor is the best approach.
“Hey John, what’s happening man? Listen I don’t have a lot of time but I wanted to touch base with you quickly on this. I just got started in a new internet business and I wanted you to do me a favor, if I send you some information will you take a look at it?”
It is as quick and easy as that.
I do not try to sell him on it, I do not explain what it is, I just ask him if he will do me a favor and take a look at it. If he asks me what it is I tell him it would take too long to explain, but the info I will send will explain it.
People that you know will do you the favor and take a look, get them the information and be sure to follow up.
You will also note I say I have started an internet business. Every MLM business is now an internet business, they have a website, and a lot of your marketing will be done on social media.
And guess what?
Everyone is intrigued by the idea of having an internet business, as a result more people will be open to looking at it.
Inviting Example #2
The second example is of a prospect you have met on social media and they are now one of your contacts or friends.
Social media is a great way to build your business and I recommend that after you are done with prospecting the people you know i.e. your warm market that you focus on social media.
So let’s say I met Rebecca on Facebook and she is now on my friends list and I have been getting to know her for the past month or so and I am now ready to approach her about my opportunity. I would send a message like the following:
“Hey Rebecca, how’s it going? It’s been very cool getting to know you on here. I am just going to throw this out there, it may or may not be something you are interested in. I own an internet business and it dawned on me you might be great at it, so I thought I would reach out to see if you would be “open” to taking a look at it. Let me know and I can get you some info. Cheers”
The key here is you are not selling, you are not pressuring her, you are simply throwing it out there to see if she would be open to taking a look. When positioned in this manner you will find that most people are open to taking a look.
