As you spend more time in this industry you will discover there are actually two very differing strategies in regards to how to get sales in network marketing.
There is no question that your income is directly related to the amount of product that is sold either by yourself or within your downline.
However how you go about getting those sales for your network marketing business is where the two strategies come into play.
I refer to these 2 strategies as:
- The little business model
- The big business model
Now as soon as you read that it was not hard to tell that clearly I am biased. My makeup is such that I can not comprehend why in the heck anyone would want to build a little business?
So needless to say I clearly favor the big business model.
In this post I am going to explain both of these sales models to you. And then I will show you how to get out there and build yourself the BIG business and income that comes with it.
The Little Business Model Explained
Surprisingly there are a many people in the network marketing or multi-level marketing (MLM) industry that use this strategy and in fact there are many well known companies that not only recommend this model but have also built their companies on it.
So it clearly works, however I would argue that it works better for the company itself then the actual distributors.
The company itself makes a big profit off of all of the little sales of their distributors but the actual distributors do not end up creating very large incomes.
I will admit there is always an exception to the rule. There are people who have done great with this model, but that is the exception and not the norm.
What I am referring to when I say the little business model is typically…
The Direct Sales or Party Planning Companies
Yes network marketing is part of the direct sales industry, however when most people think of direct sales they typically think of the party planner companies.
Their focus is mainly on having you sell your product to your friends and family.
They recommend you host parties where you show people the benefits of your product, try to sell them some and then ask them to host a party for their friends where you once again try to sell them some of your product.
It is a retail model. Very much like playing store.
You make your income off of the commissions you earn from the sale of your product to your friends and family and their friends.
Some Network Marketers Play Store Too
There are even some people in network marketing & MLM companies that focus on the small business model.
They are content simply selling products here and there to their friends, earning a small commission from time to time.
I call it the small business model because it is very hard to earn a large income doing this.
If you are happy simply earning enough commissions to get your product for free each month, or earning a few hundred dollars here and there then this business model would be for you.
I can’t help you with doing this as I do not do it. I am all about building the big business.
I am 100% committed to building a large organization or downline of distributors as this is where the 6 & 7 figure residual incomes are created. The walk away, live your life on a beach income.
The Big Business Model Explained
With this strategy you still earn commissions off of the sales of product.
However the difference is that instead of only selling products to a person here and there you would instead focus on building a large organization of people who not only buy and use the product, but who also share the opportunity with others.
You build your business by focusing more on the opportunity then the product.
Now what I just said is where some people completely lose their minds.
“But Robb you have to sell the product, but Robb you can’t just focus on the opportunity, but Robb I have to love what I am selling.”
Simmer down and listen!
Of course you want to like the product you sell. Of course the product has to be good. And once again your income is absolutely going to be earned from the sale of products.
But instead of only selling products to a few people, you instead share the opportunity with lots and lots of people.
You show them what a great business opportunity it is. You show them how they can earn a serious income working part time.
If they decide it is for them guess what?
They not only join the opportunity they also purchase the product. I.e. product is sold!
They purchase the product to use themselves, and they also purchase the product to give out as samples as they are building their business.
You Get a Customer & a Business Partner
So now instead of just having a customer, you now also have a business partner. You have someone in your downline who is also going to go to work and build their business which in turn builds yours.
You teach them how to share the opportunity with other people and they in turn recruit and bring other people into the business who also buy the product monthly and go to work building their own business as well.
This is how a large network marketing organization and a serious income is created.
Instead of having 1 – 5 customers you have the potential to have thousands and thousands of people in your downline buying the product monthly (customers) and sharing the opportunity with others (business partners).
It’s a no brainer!
And guess what?
This strategy is so much easier to do then the small business strategy.
Here is why…
With the small business model you have to convince people on why they should buy your product.
Why it is better than products they can purchase in the local store. And why they should buy it when it is probably more expensive than what they can get at the store.
Not easy things to do by any means…
Selling is not fun and most people do not want to do it. On top of that most people are simply not good at it and as a result will not have much success trying it.
How to Get Sales in Network Marketing the Right Way
With the Big Business strategy you do NOT sell.
There is no selling involved when it comes to building a network marketing business. In fact sales people typically have a hard time in this business.
The right way to get sales in MLM is to not sell at all.
Your success is found in sharing
This is a sharing business. We do not sell, we share.
We share our opportunity with people who are interested in taking a look.
We do so by providing them with tools that our companies and uplines create for us. These tools do all of the selling and telling for us.
Our only job is to find people who are open or interested in taking a look. We then provide them with one of these tools and let them do all of the work for us.
Most people try to overcomplicate this and as a result they fail horribly at this business.
Most people can not get it into their heads that they should not be selling. They want to try and convince everyone they speak with that they should join their business or buy their products.
Don’t do that, as it does not work.
Sell More By Keeping It Simple
The only way you will ever create a successful network marketing business is by keeping your business building activities simple.
Your focus needs to be on meeting new people, developing relationships with them and then asking them if they are open to taking a look at your opportunity.
If they are open to taking a look then simply provide them with a tool and let the tool do all of the work for you.
Follow up with them after they have looked at the information and collect their decision. Is the business opportunity for them or not. If it is for them sign them up.
It is a very simple business model.
Start With The People You Know
You want to start out with the people that you already know. This is called your warm market.
Sit down and make a list of everyone you know. Don’t overthink it, don’t prejudge the people, just get their names down on paper.
Now simply contact them and tell them you recently became involved in a new internet business and would like them to do you a favor and take a look at it.
That is it. Most people will do you the favor and take a look at it.
Some will look at the information, be interested and join.
When you have done this with everyone in your warm market you then move onto working the cold market.
Get Out and Meet New People
They call this network marketing for a reason. We network and meet new people.
We are professional friend makers. We make new friends on a daily basis and get paid very well for doing so.
It is a simple thing to do, especially on social media sites like Facebook.
In 1 – 2 hours time using the right strategies you can easily make 10 – 20 new Facebook friends.
Where people go wrong is they spam people. Instead of making friends they run around social media soliciting and annoying people.
Instead of soliciting people, you need to focus on friends first.
When you understand this concept and how to do it correctly, it makes this business so much easier and a lot less stressful than selling.
Just be you and get to know people. Then when the time is right you simply ask them if they are open to taking a look at an opportunity.
Bottom line, if you want more sales for your MLM business simply make more friends.
