In today’s post we are going to take a deep dive into how to get prospects for network marketing. I am going to give you 17 simple but effective strategies you can go to work implementing today so that you never run out of prospects or leads for your network marketing business ever again.
One of the most frustrating aspects of this business for me is when a newbie on my team comes up to me and says:
“I’ve run out of people to talk to about my business, where can I find more people”?
I don’t get frustrated because I am a jerk, or that it is not a valid question, but because I have been asked that question at least a million times. Now I do get why people ask me that and if I am honest I know I asked my upline the same thing starting out.
Let me be very upfront, perhaps blunt and very clear with you.
There are literally billions upon billions of people on this planet! So when someone asks me that question I feel like saying: “What do you mean where do I find prospects? They are literally all around you.”
And they truly are…
Success Requires Becoming a Professional
It is important that you understand that if you want to create a wildly successful network marketing business you need to become a professional. You must treat your business very seriously and give it the respect it needs.
A professional will have no problem going to work and finding prospects out of the billions of people who exist on this planet.
It is what we do as networkers.
We go out and meet people, we develop relationships with them and then we see if they are open to our business opportunity or product. And we get paid very well for doing it.
The following 17 strategies to get prospects will work for you if YOU work them!
However, it is important that you don’t even think about doing all 17 of these at once.
Pick no more than 3 of the methods we will cover and go to work learning them, mastering and getting results from them before moving on to any of the others.

Traditional Methods of Getting MLM Prospects
1. The People You Know
Do not skip this very powerful market my friend. I know you are probably thinking you don’t want to work with the people that you know or that they won’t be interested.
I get it, but trust me that is a huge mistake and there is no question if you want to create a business that grows and lasts you must include the warm market strategy as part of your business plan.

2. Always Ask for Referrals
Always always always ask for referrals. Any time you approach a prospect about your business opportunity and they tell you that it is not for them, always ask them if they know of anyone who would be interested in something like this.
Most people will do you a favor and give you at least one referral if not more.
Another strategy you can implement if you are nervous about asking someone to look at your opportunity is to simply tell them you have started a new business and are looking for people who would be interested in making some extra money.
Tell them you know that they probably would not be interested but you were wondering if they might know of some people who would like to make some part-time income.
It’s a bit of a reverse psychology strategy that can work well.
The person will in most cases think “wait a minute why would I not be interested? I would like to make some part-time income”, and as a result they will take a look at it and in the worst case scenario they will give you some referrals.
3. Meet People by Living Your Life
You may have heard of the 3-foot rule for generating leads? Basically everyone who comes within 3 feet of you is a prospect. I am NOT a fan of that method and this is not that strategy.
Meeting people by living your life simply means as you are going about doing what you are already doing in the course of your day to day life be aware of opportunities to meet new people.
Remember that is all we do as professional network marketers. We meet new people.
Do not run around pitching people on your MLM opportunity, instead honestly strive to make friends. You can do this at the gym, at your kids sporting events, at church, etc.
4. Attend Networking Events
Every town and city has a chamber of commerce or board of trade organization. Professionals and business people attend the events they put on with the sole purpose of networking and meeting people.
So think about that. What is your job again? To meet people. Now here is an organization that brings professionals (who make great prospects) together for the purpose of meeting people. It’s why I highly recommend this strategy.
These organizations typically meet once a month so it is not a big time commitment. Recruiting 1 of these professionals is better than 10 non-professionals, as they have big networks and typically have a lot of influence over them.
5. Put a Booth in a Trade Show
Do a google search for trade shows in your area. In most cities there are usually 3 – 4 a year. The chamber of commerce or board of trade is a good resource to find when trade shows are happening.
Display your product and even have a video of it or the business opportunity playing on a TV in your booth. Give out samples and have a draw for a free giveaway. Collect people’s business cards.
After the show, call everyone who put their name in the draw, not just the winner. Let them know that they did not win the draw but you can send them a free sample of your product.
Instead of putting a booth in a trade show (and even if you do), you can walk around to all of the other booths. Guess who is working the booth? Business owners and professionals.
Chat them up and collect their business card and give them a call after the show is over, let them know it was nice meeting with them, they appeared to be a sharp person and you wanted to see if they would be open to taking a look at a business opportunity.
6. Have a Giveaway
Just like with the trade show giveaway you can put draw boxes in different businesses around your town (restaurants & coffee shops work great). Call the draw something like: “I hate my job free lunch contest”.
Have people write their name, phone and email address and tell you why they hate their job.
Make sure the sign on the draw box says that one person will win the free lunch but every person will be shown how they can quit their job by starting a side hustle or business.
Then call the people, let them know they did not win, but that you will buy them a coffee at the business where you had the draw if they will meet you there to check out an internet business they can make extra money with.

7. Your Facebook Profile
Facebook is a great way to get leads for your network marketing business. Your profile is where you want to start.
The key with social media is to use it to make friends. (sound familiar?) Do not go on there with the intention of selling, harassing or spamming people. Instead focus on going out and making friends.
Start with adding people you have known throughout your life to your personal profile.
Reconnect with them and strengthen the relationship.
Next move onto adding the people Facebook suggests you should be friends with. Typically these are friends of your friends. Send them a message, a friend request and then start a conversation.
Interact with your friends on private messages, your profile by posting things, and in your news feed by commenting and liking posts they make.
When the time is right simply ask them if they are open to taking a look at an opportunity.

8. Facebook Pages
You can make new friends on Facebook by following other pages. Figure out who your target market is and then figure out what pages they would follow. Go and follow them as well.
Start commenting and liking comments people make on these pages.
Get to know the people who are commenting, interact with them and as you start to get to know the people they will start to send you friends requests and you can do the same.
9. Facebook Groups
Same idea as the Facebook pages. Figure out who your target market is and what groups they would hang out in.
Join those groups and become actively involved in them. Become a person of value within the groups. Someone who posts valuable, interesting and entertaining things.
Comment on other peoples posts, like other peoples posts, and start conversations within the group.
Again you can send people friend requests and you will also start getting friend requests. An important thing to keep in mind is to never accept or send a friend request without sending a private message to the person.
The strategies for using LinkedIn are very similar to Facebook. The key once again is to not go on there trying to sell, instead go network and make friends.
LinkedIn is powerful because most of the people on there are professionals so they make good prospects.
Full disclosure with Twitter, I have not used it to prospect or generate leads. However millions of people are on Twitter and countless network marketers use it to meet people.
I personally just do not like it, it is not my style, however it may be yours.
The strategy would be similar to using other social media platforms. Go out and add friends (followers), interact with them, get to know them, build rapport and a relationship and when the time is right ask them if they are open to taking a look at an opportunity.
Same thing applies with Instagram. Millions and millions of people are on there.
Pretty much all of your Facebook friends will be. Facebook owns Instagram. So it is another platform to strengthen the relationship with your Facebook friends and to go out and make more friends.
Internet Marketing Strategies for Getting MLM Prospects
13. Start a Blog
Blogging is one of my favorite ways to get prospects for my network marketing business. However it is a very long term strategy.
Do not expect to see any results from it for at least 12 months if not longer depending on your niche or the market you are targeting. But once the leads start coming, there is no better way in my opinion to get prospects for your business.
The basics of this strategy are to pick a niche, who are you targeting? Perhaps you are promoting a weight loss product. You could blog about nutrition, health, fitness and weight loss.
Provide valuable information on a regular basis and promote your weight loss product as one of the solutions to help them get in shape, etc.
14. Start a Podcast
Podcasting is a big thing these days and it is only getting bigger. Most people have a podcast app on their phone and are always looking for information and content to listen to.
Pick your target market and start a podcast providing valuable, informative and entertaining information to them.
15. Start a YouTube Channel
People love to watch YouTube videos. So start a YouTube channel where you do pretty much the same thing as you would if you start a blog.
In fact blogging and YouTube go well together. I will often do a blog post and then a video on the same topic. Upload my video to YouTube and then embed the video into my blog post.
16. Open a Pinterest Account
Pinterest is great depending on the niche you are targeting. If it is a niche that photos would represent it well then you can generate a ton of leads with it.
17. Learn How to Do Attraction Marketing
Attraction Marketing is basically internet marketing for network marketers. It incorporates a lot of the strategies I just discussed.
The basics of it are you would once again pick a target market and then go to work using internet marketing to set yourself up as an expert in that field.
Everyone loves to work with the expert. When you are viewed as an expert people look up to you, respect you and value your opinion. You gain influence over them.
When this happens they will take any recommendation you make seriously. If you suggest they look at your product or business opportunity a large percentage of them will.
Plus when done correctly you will actually attract the prospects to you, meaning they will want to know what you are doing, what business you are in, or what product you recommend and they will in many cases reach out to you requesting you provide them with information.
It is an extremely powerful strategy, but again it does take time to get results with it, so if you decide to use it make sure you also use strategies that will get you results quicker while you are waiting for the leads to start coming in from this method.
