The secret to success in MLM is to become good at prospecting and recruiting new distributors onto your team. The first skill to learn is how to get MLM leads and the 2nd skill to learn is becoming proficient in being able to enroll at least 3 – 5 of them into your business each month.
Develop these two skill sets and the sky is the limit; you will create a powerful and profitable business.
I have loads of trainings on this blog on both of these subjects however in today’s post we are going to focus on lead generation and look at 4 of my favorite ways of doing so.

Alright let’s get into today’s training.
As I indicated above, I am going to share with you my 4 favorite strategies for lead generation. Each of these I have used to find and enroll new team members.
All 4 work very well. Some of them require more time to master than the others. So my advice is to pick 1 or 2 of them, learn them, implement them and get results with them before engaging in another.
In this training I am going to cover 2 offline strategies and 2 online strategies and if you ever only use 1 – 2 of these methods I am about to share with you, you are never going to run out of people to talk to about your business again.
So let’s dive into it.
My Thoughts about Offline Prospecting
First off it is important to understand that before you get started generating leads you need to have approached everyone in your Warm Market.
Yup your warm market. The people you know and the people that know you. It’s the foundation of any successful network marketing business.
Now this is not a training on warm market recruiting. And I am not going to spend any time on this subject. Just know I am a huge fan and advocate of the Warm Market. I created a 6 figure income with mine, so I know it works if you do it right.
I also truly feel that in the majority of cases you will have a hard time building a sustainable team if you don’t include it as part of your business building methods.
OK end of tiny little rant, just take what I just said seriously.

Times Have Changed
I know that nowadays most people want to focus finding leads, prospecting and recruiting them online. And I get that and definitely support doing so. But offline methods can also be very effective.
In the old days way back in 2005 lol… offline was all there really was. The internet was not what it is today and social media was just getting started and nobody had it figured out. It was very spammy.
So back then offline was much more important than it is today, it was really your only option.
Nowadays I would recommend focusing most of your activities online.
You can simply reach more leads and do so much faster than you can offline. And with social media the relationship you can build with these leads is as strong as or even stronger than their offline counterparts.
Having said that I would still recommend you learn how to get leads offline. But do so in a way that you can maximize your time by generating as many in as short a period of time as possible OR in such a way that you are not spending hours at a time doing so.
I’ll explain this more as we go.
OK let’s jump into my top 2 offline strategies.
Offline Strategy #1 – Just Live Your Life
This one falls into the category of “not spending hours at a time offline looking for leads”.
This is a very simple and common sense approach to lead generation.
All you are doing here is learning how to keep an eye open for sharp people. People who would be good a good fit for your MLM business.
I do not recommend the 3 foot rule. I do not recommend prospecting every waitress who serves you. I do not recommend heading to the shopping mall to talk to complete strangers. I have done all of these and they suck and are not an effective use of your time.
I recommend living and enjoying your life. And as you are doing so keep your eyes open for sharp people.
When you find one do not jump all over them about your business opportunity. In fact don’t even bring it up.
Instead just be a normal human being. Talk and communicate normally. Build a relationship. A friendship and then move it to Facebook.
Then when the time is right using my Passive Facebook Approach which I cover further on in this post, approach them about your business or product.
Here is an example of how this works in my life…
I have 4 kids and 3 of them are heavily involved in activities. Football, dance and basketball. I am at a practice, game or recital all the time. Guess who else is there? Other parents.
Every game, every practice the same people. Plus there are about 8 teams in each of my children’s basketball league, which means I run into the parents from the opposing teams on a regular basis at games and weekend long tournaments.
All I do is be human. I socialize. I talk to them and I get to know them and develop a relationship of sorts. And then when it is comfortable to do so I send them a friend request on Facebook.
That’s it my friend. Do not over think this. It’s simple, it works and it is designed to simply complement any other lead generation method you decide to use.
It is a strategy that it simply does not make sense for you not to do. With it you can easily add 10 – 20 new people to your lead list each month.
Offline Strategy #2 – Trade Shows
This strategy for lead generation falls under the category of maximizing your time by generating as many leads as possible in a short period of time.
There are actually two strategies you want implement here. The first will be to generate customers for your product and the 2nd is to generate leads for your MLM business opportunity.
Enter a booth into the trade show. Set it up so you have your product presentation playing on a TV at your booth. Have samples to give out and product to sell as well as forms to sign people up on auto ship.
In my experience I did not get many customers at the trade show itself, where I got them was in the follow up after the event.
What you want to do is have a draw for a Free bottle/box of your product set up at your booth.
People will come to your booth and depending on what type of trade show it is, they can either put their business card into your draw box or fill out a ticket with their name, number and email.
Depending on how big the trade show is you will collect hundreds of names. You now go home and of course call the winner and get them their Free product.
But guess what else you do? Yup you call the rest of the names.
You thank them for coming by your booth, let them know they unfortunately did not win the draw but you would like to offer them a free sample of your product. Get their mailing address, send the sample out to them, follow up with them after a week and see if they want to be a customer or need more information on the product.
If you do not want to mail out product samples then instead what you can do is call them and simply find out if they would be open to receiving more information on the product and if so get them some information and follow up.
What I just shared with you works great for getting customer leads. And of course when you are speaking with them you can and should ask if they are open to looking at your business opportunity.
But my favorite method of prospecting at Trade Shows is to actually get out from behind your booth and go visit every other booth.
Guess who owns those other booths. Business people. Entrepreneurs. Excellent prospects!
Simply go from both to both and be social. Chat it up with the people manning the booths AND collect business cards. Get a business card from everyone working the booth.
You can actually use this strategy without putting a booth into the Tradeshow. You will miss out on generating the leads for customers but if your goal is to recruit business owners just walking around a trade show visiting the booths is a powerful strategy.
Now a day or two later you call all the people you collected business cards from and say something like:
“Hey Tony this is Robb not sure if you remember me, we met at the trade show the other day. I’m calling you as I really enjoyed our conversation and it dawned on me while we were speaking that you would do great at what I do. So I wanted to give you a shout to see if you would be open to a side project if it did not interfere with what you are presently doing with (name their business), it may or may not before you but I thought I would reach out to see if you would be open to taking a look?”.
That’s it. If they say not open than thank them, wish them well and say good bye.
If they are open then get them some information to look at and follow up.
A simple, easy and effective way to get a ton of leads.
Alright let’s move onto my online strategies.
My Thoughts about Online Prospecting
My thoughts are simple. It is where you want and need to be.
Social Media is a complete game changer for the MLM industry. Never in the history of this industry has it been easier to find people and have conversations with them.
If you are not using it as one of you prospecting strategies you are missing out and need to start.
The following are my two favorite strategies for generating leads online.
Facebook is a Gold Mine
You need to be digging the gold out of this mine my friend. It is the biggest and baddest of all of the social media platforms at the moment.
Things change all of the time online and will something else show up to eventually trump Facebook, most likely. But at the moment it is where you want to spend your time.
There are two methods to get leads on Facebook that I recommend you use. You can actually use both of them.
- The Direct Approach
- The Passive Approach
The Direct Approach aka Work the Numbers
This is what I call a burn and turn method of recruiting.
You are going to go through large numbers of prospects. This is a numbers game and you are going to be working the numbers. You are sorting through people to find those open to looking at your opportunity.
You are going to get a lot of No’s and that is awesome because you are actually going to set a goal of getting a certain number of No’s before you stop for the day.
Why do you want to set a goal of getting a certain number of No’s? Simple, the more No’s you get the more Yes’s you will also get.
To use this method you do have to have thick skin. You can’t care what people think about you. In my books if someone is not paying my bills who cares about their opinion on my MLM business. Not this guy.
Now I don’t mean to scare you off with what I just said. This method is not difficult and is quite simple and very straight forward. It duplicates very well and you can get your team having success with it as well.
It is a very effective recruiting method and it can create serious momentum in your business.
However, there is a right way and a wrong way to do this.
You want to approach your prospects in a very non spammy fashion. The way I train on this method will set the prospect at ease and whether or not they join your business they will think you are a great guy or gal and in many cases be grateful you reached out to them.

The Passive Approach – Build Influence to Win
This is a strategy that everyone on your team should be implementing.
It uses Facebook to build your influence. Influence is a game changer in network marketing.
Think about this…
We have all either been at a company event or on a company call and have heard the incredible story of someone who has never had experience in our industry before shooting through the ranks and creating success fast.
Want to know how they were able to do that?
They had Influence over people.
Somewhere somehow in their life before getting into MLM they created influence over a large group of people.
Many sorts of people have influence. Doctors, Athletes, Entrepreneurs, Spiritual Leaders, Bloggers, Coaches, Realtors, Business Owners, etc., etc.
What happens when you have influence people respect you, people look up to you and most importantly for our industry people listen to you when you ask them to look at your business opportunity. And they take it seriously because you are asking them to take a look.
Creating influence is a game changer.
It is why I was able to have success very quickly out of the gates in my business.
I was a business owner in my city and had influence over people as someone who knew what he was talking about when it came to business. As such people listened to me and took me seriously when I asked them to take a look at my opportunity.
And here is the thing…
Creating influence on Facebook using my Passive Approach is a very simple and straight forward process.
You and your whole team can do it and I recommend you do!

Let’s move onto my all-time favorite method.
Attraction Marketing – Get Leads to Prospect Themselves
How in the hell can you get leads to prospect themselves Robb? What are you talking about?
Yup it’s real and that is exactly what happens.
You see Attraction Marketing is harnessing the power of the internet to create systems and funnels to attract leads to you.
By marketing on the internet whether that is with a blog, videos, Facebook pages, Instagram, etc, you are putting out content that is geared toward what your perfect prospect is looking for.
Content that is designed to help them. Content that is designed to provide the solution to their problem, the answer to their question.
Take this blog post for example…
Someone may have found it by doing a search in google for how to get leads. It answers their question on how to do so. It provides valuable information on how to not just find leads but recruit them into their business.
As you put more and more content out there your value goes up in your prospects mind. They come to see you as an expert who can help them solve a problem and help them reach their goals.
And over time some of them will come to see whatever it is you are promoting as the solution to their problem.
For example If you are providing tips and helpful information on weight loss and every once in a while inviting them to look at your weight loss product over time they will want to know more about your product and a good percentage of them will buy it from you.
Another example could be if you are targeting people who are interested in and searching for information on home based businesses.
You produce content geared towards training and tips on how to build a home based business and every once in a while you invite them to look at your business. Over time as they come to see you as an expert in the field of home based business many will decide they should work with you in your business and reach out to you for more information.
It’s an extremely powerful strategy…
