Before I get into showing you how to generate leads for network marketing it is important for you to remember and ingrain into your head that when you are generating leads for your business what you are really doing is finding people to share your business with. Real everyday people like you and I.
Now this may sound like an obvious statement to have made but one of the problems I see with this topic is the actually term “lead”. It comes across very impersonal and transitionally based.
One of the problems with how people try to build their network marketing business is that too many forget that this is a people business and instead they treat everyone they come across as a lead instead of a person.
Remember That Leads Are People Too
Thinking of prospects as leads verses people who may or may not need your opportunity makes the process very impersonal. And when you come across as being impersonal or treat each conversation as a transaction your prospect is going to feel it and be repelled by it.
Why are they going to be repelled?
For two key reasons:
Reason #1: Nobody wants to be sold. Think about it, do you love being called by a telemarketer? Nope. Do you love walking into a car lot and have a sales person try to sell you a car? Nope. No one likes to be thought of as just another transaction.
Reason #2: Most people don’t want to be sales people. Remember that everything you are doing to build your business your prospect is watching. They are thinking to themselves if I do this “thing” I am going to have to do exactly what Robb is doing.
So if you are coming across as salesy or impersonal people are not going to join your downline as they are not going to want to come across that way to the people they care about. Make sense?
So if you want to grow your business faster than just always remember that leads are people. People like you and I who have needs, wants, problems and frustrations. Think to yourself how would I want to be treated? How would I want to be approached by someone about their product or opportunity?
Learn to become a people person, someone who comes across as being genuinely interested in their prospects.
It will make a big difference in your results.
Don’t Spend Months Becoming Friends – Get to the Point Quickly
Now I am not saying you have to become your prospects best friend or spend months catching up or getting to know your lead before asking them if they are open to looking at your opportunity. That is not what I am saying at all.
In fact, I am all for the opposite, don’t beat around the bush, get to the point with your lead quickly and they will appreciate it. People can see through you being fake.
For example let’s say you are using Facebook to generate leads, something we will cover in this post.
You have not spoken to a Facebook friend in months or even years.
If you approach them and start a back and forth in messenger about their family, their occupation, their relationships, etc, etc, and you keep it going for some set number of messages before you pop the question, they are going to see through that in 2 seconds.
They will be immediately thinking “oh here we go, what is Robb trying to sell me now, and would he just hurry up and get to the point already”.
So there is a fine line between treating people like a transaction and going overboard in trying to build a relationship. The key is to remember they are people and treat them as such. Ask yourself how you would like to be treated. If someone was prospecting you, how would you want to be prospected?
The secret is to get people to like, know and trust you quickly and be able to move to presenting your opportunity as quickly as possible.
There are lots of posts on this blog to help you master this skill.
Like anything else prospecting is a skill you will need to learn, it is not hard once get the hang of it and you can do so quite easily once you start taking action.
If you are into personal development which you certainly should be, one of the best resources on the subject is the book How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. I highly recommend adding it to your library.

3 Methods to Generate Leads for Your Business
In today’s post we are going to look at 4 methods to generate leads for your network marking business.
Now all 4 of these are in addition to or after you have gone to your warm market. I am not going to get into warm market strategies in this post, but just know that I am a huge fan of the warm market and created a significant 6 figure income in network marketing by focusing on my warm market. In my mind it is simply ridiculous not to start out focusing on your warm market.
However unlike what my up line told me. I definitely believe and personally experienced it; you can and will run out of people to talk to once you have approached your warm market. And when that happens you need more people to share your opportunity with.
So the following are some methods you can implement today to get things cranking in your business.
Method #1 – Local Leads
I call generating local leads as living life.
I do not recommend the 3-foot rule because it sucks.
I do not recommend heading to the mall with the intention of approaching strangers about my network marketing business because it sucks.
I have done both of those things, the results were terrible and it made me hate building my business.
I know of a couple who were very successful in our company who wanted to grow their downline into a certain city. They actually went door to door in that city. Oh hell no! Not this guy, not a chance, talk about painful. And guess what their results sucked!
What I recommend for building locally is simply live your life AND while doing so keep your eyes open for sharp people.
People who you think would be great to have in your business.
An example of living your life would be when you are at your kids sporting event. One of my boys and both of my girls play basketball. My boy also plays football. At every game and many of their practices there are lots of other parents in the stands.
I do NOT starting dropping recruiting scripts on them at the game. Again think of how you would like to be prospected. If you meet someone and they start dropping sales lines on you, you are going to think this person is a moron and try to get away from them as fast as possible.
Instead, what I do is act like a normal human being and get to know them and develop a normal relationship with them. Perhaps I will add them to Facebook to further develop that relationship.
Then when the time is right I will ask them if they are open to looking at a business opportunity. Sometimes the time will be right immediately sometimes it will be 3 weeks later. It just depends on the situation.
If you are always adding people to your network you will always have people every single day where the time will be right to share your opportunity with them.
Method #2 – Using Facebook to Generate Leads
When it comes to recruiting social media Facebook is the place to be. At the moment I do not spend much if any worthwhile time on any of the other social media platforms.
Facebook is a game changer for network marketers. In fact, I would go so far as to say that if you are not getting leads on Facebook you are in serious danger of falling behind.
Now when it comes to generating leads on Facebook most network marketers are doing it all wrong and are doing more damage to their business than good.
This is because most people are becoming Spammy Tammy’s.
You’ve seen them out there and maybe you are or have been them.
Posting their product all over the place. Plastering their wall with the opportunity. Spamming the hell out of their friends and family on messenger.
If you are doing this stop. If you were considering doing this don’t.
The Right Way to Use Facebook for Lead Generation
Facebook is a social media platform. The key word being social!
People do not come to Facebook to learn stuff. They go to Google for that. People come to Facebook to be social and to be entertained.
So behave on Facebook very much like you would at a party.
No one would go to a party and walk around to all of the other guests and start hitting them with their business opportunity. If they did they would most likely be avoided by everyone and eventually probably kicked out of the party.
Same thing on Facebook. If you are spamming your product or opportunity all over your wall, in groups and to people in messenger, eventually most people will stop following you, unfriend you and possibly even report you to Facebook and you could get thrown into FB jail.
Instead, who are the people who are liked at a party?
- They are the people who are interesting.
- They are the people who are fun.
- They are the people who provide value.
Do the same thing on FB.
Figure out who your target market is:
- Are they health and wellness people?
- Are they people who love personal development?
- Are they people who love skiing?
- Are they people who want to lose weight?
- Are they small business owners?
- Who do you want to build your downline with?
Once you figure this out than go out and meet these people.
Join groups and pages based around your target market.
Get to know the people in those groups, just like you would at a party.
Like their comments, comment on their comments, add value to their comments, add value to the groups, become friends with the people in the groups/pages.
How to Behave on Your FB Profile
Basically do what we just talked about on your profile as well.
Remember who your target market is and provide value to them on your profile.
What would they find interesting, helpful, entertaining, etc and provide it to them.
Mix it up… through posts about you in the mix. Are you out with your kids at a basketball game? Take a selfie and post it to your profile. Are you traveling, out to dinner, boating, swimming, at a show, hiking, skiing, playing a board game, whatever put it on your profile.
Let people into your life so they get to know, like and trust you from what you post.
Do both of those things 80% of the time. Meaning provide value based information to your target market, provide entertaining material to your target market, show them you.
And than 20% of the time you can strategically post information about your product or opportunity.
Strategically does not mean spam. Do not post nonsense like join me, or I’m looking for 5 more people to whatever.
Do not post your company or product name. They will google it and on their own, which you do not want as there is always some clown who has posted garbage about your product or opportunity and this will discourage your prospect.
Instead, post what is referred to as curiosity posts.
What is a Curiosity Post?
A curiosity post might be a picture of you holding your companies weight loss product with a piece of tape over the name of the product. You could say something like “just started this new weight loss program, my friend lost 15 lbs, can’t wait to see how I do, wish me luck”.
Bam… people will comment, people will ask what is it. And guess what they are now leads for your network marketing business or product.
Reach out to them in a private message and see if they are interested in taking a look at what you are doing.
You can do the same thing with your business opportunity.
A curiosity post might be a picture of you at a company event. Or you welcoming a new team member. Or congratulating a team member of upline. Or being excited that you just received a check from your new side gig.
The key is to make people curious. Do not tell them what the opportunity is in your post. Do not try to recruit them in the post. Just make them curious and they will reach out to you. They will ask you what is this side gig you are doing.
When you answer than do so in a private message in messenger, do not answer on your post as you do not want to others to learn what it is without you having the chance to speak with them.
Reach Out Directly via Messenger
And lastly what you can do on FB is reach out directly to people you have become friends with.
As you start to add friends from you’re the groups and pages you are now a member of, they will start to get to know like and trust you as you post on your profile and like and engage on their posts on their profile.
Once you have a relationship established than it is time to approach them about your product or opportunity.
Reach out to them on messenger and simply say something like: “Hey just throwing it out there but would you be interested in a side project that doesn’t interfere with what you are presently doing, it may or may not be for you. If you are interested in taking a look great, I can send you some information, if not no big deal”.
That’s it. They are either open to look at it or they are not and either is OK.
The powerful thing about this strategy is that as you continue to post more information on your profile using the above methods your prospects will continue to become more and more intrigued and when the time is right for them they will reach out to you.
Active Versus Passive Prospecting
So the two methods we have just looked at to generate leads for your business are what are referred to as Active prospecting.
You should engage in active prospecting at least 70% of the time you have allotted daily to build your network marketing business.
Passive prospecting is often referred to as marketing activities. Marketing activities could be things such as YouTube videos, Blogging, Paid ads, etc.
These methods work to generate leads but there is a learning curve to them and they take time to work.
It is important to only ever allot 30% of your time to these methods due to the fact that building your network marketing downline requires duplication.
Which means the members of your team will do what you do to build your business. If they all focus on Passive Prospecting you are not going to grow a large downline, for the simple fact that not everyone will be able to do or want to do the passive prospecting activities AND they take time.
Active prospecting is the life blood of every successful network marketing organization and always will be.
Passive prospecting or marketing does work and I do recommend it, but you must abide by the guidelines I just gave you if your goal is to build a network marketing business.
If you just want to do marketing than I recommend you focus on affiliate marketing and not network marketing. Affiliate marketing is simply selling products through marketing activities. You can learn more about that here.
If you are like me and love network marketing and the possibilities it provides and want to include passive marketing into your daily method of operation than I recommend that you learn about Attraction Marketing. You can learn about it here.
Now Take Action
And there you have it my friend. 3 ways to generate leads for your business. The first 2 you can start getting leads coming in today if you get at it. The 3rd will take time but is powerful once you get some traction happening.
If you have any questions on these methods feel free to drop a comment in the comments below and I will be sure to reply to you.
