There is absolutely no question that learning “how to generate leads for a network marketing business” is a skill set that will reward you in a big way for many years to come. This is because when you boil it down to its absolute basic core, success in network marketing is a direct result of always having people (leads) to share your opportunity with daily. Learn how to do this and success will be yours.
The simple fact of the matter is if you can develop the skill set of having at least 3 people per day to share your business with and do so in the proper manner your success is simply a matter of time. It will happen.
Now having said that if you want to go faster than crank it up from 3 people per day to 5 – 10.
How to Generate Leads
So of course the question is where do I find these leads? How do I generate them?
And good for you for looking into how to generate them verses buying them.
Because yes you can buy cold leads; but those leads are terrible and their quality simply does not compare to leads that you have generated on your own. And cold calling them is a terrible excruciating experience, been there done that!
Now there are many ways to generate leads for your network marketing business and I cover many of them extensively on this blog.
Today I am going to give you an overview my top 4 lead generation strategy’s and I am going to share them with you in the order I recommend that you implement them.
Meaning start with the first method, master it and once you have then move onto the 2nd and so on.
Under each strategy’s description I will provide you with links to additional training to help you master it.
OK let’s dive in…
Strategy #1 – Get Out Your Contact List
Yup the people you already know. Do not neglect this very simple but powerful source of leads.
Too many people are too nervous, scared or maybe even embarrassed to share their opportunity with their friends and family.
If I am speaking to you, get over it and get on with contacting them.
I created a 6 figure income just by going to the people I knew. If you do it the right way it can be a very profitable source of leads for you.
And even if you do not have great success with your warm market it is still imperative that you go to them first and you teach your team to do the same thing.
The reason for this is twofold:
You never know who is going to crush it with their warm market.
If you skip going to yours your team is going to skip going to theirs and you are missing out on potential pile of growth in your business. For this reason alone is it a bad business decision not to include this strategy in your business.
The warm market is where you learn how to prospect and recruit.
Generating leads takes learning new skills and in some cases it takes time to learn, and it definitely takes more effort than going to the people that you know.
So when you get to the point of recruiting colder leads you want to be on your game. You want to know what you are doing. You want to have learned how to build the business and prospect.
You accomplish this by approaching the people that you know first. They will be easier on you and are your training grounds.

Strategy #2 – Living Your Life
Back in the old days before social media and the internet took over how we live our lives in the capacity that they have; your only option of finding prospects to share your business with was get out and meet people in public in one way or another.
Now because of the internet in my opinion this is no longer a requirement. Having said that some of those methods still work and do produce high quality leads, but social media leads are just as good and you can generate them while sitting on your couch.
However, since we all do still live a good part of our lives offline; it makes very good sense to always be on the lookout for sharp people.
This is a very simple and straight forward strategy and if you use it you will be surprised how many leads you can generate for your network marketing business with it.
2 a day is a very realistic number. Do the math on that. Let’s say you only leave your house 5 days a week. That is 10 new people every week. 40 in a month! It adds up quick.
Here is an example of what I mean when I say living life. I have 3 children who are heavily involved in sports. Football, basketball and dance.
I am at numerous practices, games and recitals all the time. And guess who else is there?
Parents of all of the other kids.
Football teams have at min 30 kids on it, which equates to 30 new leads. Basketball teams have at least 12 players, which equates to 12 new leads. Dance teams typically have 8 – 10 dancers on a team, which equates to 8 – 10 new leads.
And this is just one example.
We run into new people all the time through the course of just living our life.
- Parties we are invited to
- Salons we go to
- Gyms we work out at
- Businesses we do business with
The list goes on and on.
Now before I lose you. I am NOT suggesting going into these places and soliciting people! On the contrary. Do NOT do that!
I don’t even bring up my business to these people ever while I am out and about. Instead I act like a normal human being. I communicate. I talk to them. I get to know them.
And then… I add them as a friend on Facebook or LinkedIn. And from there I carry on with the prospecting and recruiting strategy I will discuss next!
Strategy #3 – Personal Profile on Facebook.
This is without a doubt a strategy you will want to implement immediately after going through your warm market.
Facebook and social media have become game changers for learning how to generate leads for a network marketing business.
Never has it been easier…
Never has the average every day person had such an incredibly straight forward strategy for creating success.
And this strategy is actually based on a little known secret in our industry. I hate to use the word secret but it kind of is exactly that.
You know those people who join your company and have immediate success; the ones who recruit tons of new reps fast, crush the leader boards very quickly and create huge residual income checks almost overnight?
Want to know why they were able to do so? The reason is actually very simple and obvious once you are aware of it.
Having Influence is the Secret Sauce
They had influence over a large group of people prior to joining network marketing.
Somehow through something they did in their life before joining your opportunity they created this influence with people.
They built a tribe of people who knows them, likes them and trusts them. These people look up to them and admire them. They value their opinion and advice.
So when this person of influence asks their tribe or group of followers to take a look at an opportunity they not only take a look at it but they take a “serious” look at it and many join simply because this person of influence is involved.
Now in the old offline days creating this type of influence took time and was not an easy thing to do.
Examples of people with influence are:
- Community leaders
- Small business owners
Back then typically you either had influence or you didn’t. And if you didn’t you were resigned to grindings it out for years trying to become a success.
But now days creating this kind of influence using Facebook and other social media platforms is a very straight forward and simple process that is an incredibly powerful lead generation strategy that you and everyone on your team should be implementing.
It should become your number 1 prospecting method. The majority of your time should be focused on this method.
The following are some training to get you started implementing this strategy:
Strategy #4 – Attraction Marketing
This last strategy is what I would refer to as an advanced method of generating leads. It is not for everyone because it has a learning curve associated with it, it takes time to get any traction with and it can cost money to implement.
However, it is a very effective strategy and once you have gained some traction with it you will end up with an endless supply of highly targeted leads coming in daily.
Basically it is internet marketing for networkers…
You use methods such as blogging, Facebook ads and video marketing to attract prospects to you
Now if your goal is to build a downline and you want to implement this strategy I recommend that you spend no more than 30% of the time you have allotted to build your business doing attraction marketing. Spend the majority of your time actively prospecting using the other 3 strategy’s we have discussed.
