One of the appealing aspects of network marketing is its promise of providing us with walk away residual income. And one of the key aspects of making that happen is in learning How to build Network Marketing Leaders within your downline.
The old saying “if it is to be it is up to me” does not apply in this industry.
It is impossible for you to make it to the top of your compensation plan on your own. And it is definitely impossible to create the walk away income on your own.
You need a team and you need leaders within the team to take charge and grow their own teams.
Now when it comes to building network marketing leaders it is not a simple matter of just picking anyone on your team and saying to them I am now going to build you into a leader.
It simply does not work that way.
In my opinion leaders are actually born and not made.
It is kind of like an athlete who has that crazy insane competitive nature in them.
They are always working just a little bit harder on the court or field. They hustle just a little bit more than most. They stay a little bit longer at the end of practice to work on their skills.
You cannot coach that behavior into someone. That is something the player has all on his own.
The same goes for someone who becomes a leader in network marketing. They have leadership qualities in them already whether or not they are aware of it.
You cannot make someone into a leader who does not already have it built into their nature.
The future leaders on your team will make themselves known to you. You will quickly be able to tell who they are going to be.
They will be committed. They will be focused. You will be able to tell they are following the plan and being coachable and are in action.
Your job is to provide the tools, coaching and environment for the leaders to emerge.
So let’s look at how you can create the right environment to allow your leaders to show themselves and grow their own massive organizations….
Don’t Make this Mistake
One of the key components to learning how to build network marketing leaders is making sure that you don’t make the mistake that most people do when starting out in this business.
Most network marketers are so excited when they recruit someone into their downline that they coddle and baby them.
Oh look it’s my new distributor, isn’t he or she cute.
Let me spend countless hours with you babysitting you. Let me explain every component of the compensation plan to you, answer all of the customers service questions you have and do everything for you. Some people go so far as to help them write their list and call them with them.
Do NOT do this…
You are spoiling and ruining your new distributor. You are setting them up for failure.
Instead, do these 3 things…
Step #1 – Have a Get Started Conversation
Every time I enroll a new distributor I have a getting started conversation. The call will last for about 15 minutes.
I start out by discussing with them what I call “Getting Their Head Right”!
I begin by explaining to them what they really have in front of them. I explain that network marketing is an incredible business opportunity capable of transforming their lives in a major way.
I make sure they really understand this.
Then I explain that accomplishing that type of success is only possible if they treat it like the business that it is. If they treat it like a hobby it will pay them like a hobby.
If they do not work on it daily it is not going to work. If they cannot set a schedule and stick to it then they might as well give up now.
I explain to them that I am here for them, but not to baby sit them. They have to show me they are serious and following the plan in order to get my time.
I explain exactly how the business is built. I show them our team training site. I make sure they have recorded our weekly training calls in their calendar. I make sure they are signed up to get team updates.
And then I give them an assignment…
Step #2 – Assignment Time
You need to understand that your time is very valuable. And there are time vampires out there. They will want to eat up all of your time.
Some people will just want to talk about building the business instead of actually getting to work building it. Watch out for these people.
Because it does not matter how big your network marketing business is you need to spend the majority of your time recruiting new distributors not babysitting your team.
So after my initial get started call I only work 1 on 1 with people who show they are serious and are building. The rest I work with in groups on team calls, Facebook groups, training events, newsletters, etc.
I determine who the serious people are by giving all my new recruits an assignment during the initial “get started conversation”.
At the end of the call I will tell them to head over to the team training site / Facebook group and go through all of the training and to message me when they are done.
If I have not heard from them in a couple of days I will send a follow up message. But that is it. If they do not reply I do not chase them.
Once they get back to me saying that the first assignment is done I will have a quick conversation with them to recap how to build the business to make sure they understand it and then give them a 2nd
assignment.
The 2nd assignment will be to go and launch their business.
Once they have done what I have told them to do they are to get back in touch with me again to discuss how it went and to get their next assignment.
I do this over and over again. And guess what your future leaders will do the assignments. And if they are doing the assignments they will be getting result.
So what I do now is I start to get them involved and give them recognition…
Step #3 – Recognize and Involve
As the new distributors starts to follow the training and do the assignments they are going to get results and start rank advancing.
I will recognize this on team calls, Facebook groups and emails.
I will also start to get them involved by having them become involved in team trainings
Depending on how much success they are achieving it may be a simple matter of them welcoming people to the training call starting out.
As they progress I may have them share their recent wins and how they accomplished it. And eventually move to have them training on the call itself.
I will have them give their testimonial during recruiting calls or live presentations, etc.
If you are using Facebook groups for training your team you can get them involved on it also.
By doing these kinds of things you are giving them responsibility and creating in them a feeling of being a leader.
This is a powerful strategy. People love to be recognized for what they have accomplished. It makes them loyal, keeps them working hard and develops them into leaders.
To Briefly Recap
In the end building leaders is not rocket science and is very straight forward…
The first thing you need to do is to focus on recruiting new distributors daily.
Do this and even if you did none of what I just taught you, eventually you are going to recruit leaders who will figure out how to build the business on their own.
The second thing is to have tools and systems in place that people can use to learn how to build the business and then go out and do it.
The people who are serious and who will become your leaders will do what is required. The leaders will emerge.
And lastly work with those leaders.
Give them recognition and get them involved. They will grow into leadership and go out and build large organizations which in turn makes your organization even bigger and stronger.
