Your downline must be able to be independent of you. It must have that magical term that you only ever hear in this industry, called Duplication.
No duplication means no growth, no growth means you are just spinning your wheels getting nowhere.
Building a team in network marketing is not rocket science but there are certain things you must do right or it simply will not happen for you.
In today’s post I am going to share with you the 4 key components that you must have in place to be able to build a profitable downline.

#1 – Always Be Recruiting New Distributors
The fact is that success in network marketing requires that you become a career recruiter. If you want to have a large business you must recruit recruit recruit!
Too many people sponsor 3 – 5 people and think to themselves, well there you go I have done it, I have arrived, now all I need to do is manage my team, they will go and recruit 3 – 5 people and so on and so forth and through the magic of duplication I am going to have a huge downline in no time, life is going to be great.
Ah NOPE… not how it works!!
I heard Dani Johnson say one time that she did not care if you were making $1,000.00 a month in your business or $100,000.00 a month in your business; if you were not continuing to recruit new distributors monthly than your business was going backwards.
I agree with her.
And it is freaking exciting when you think about it. All you have to do to create the lifestyle of your dreams is develop 1 skill set. Develop the skill set of recruiting and bam you can live the life of your dreams.
Are you getting that?
Learn just 1 skill set and your bank account explodes! You have already learned over the course of your life tons of skills. You only need to learn 1 more.
And nowadays because of Social Media learning how to get very good at recruiting is something anyone with desire and ambition can accomplish. It is not hard, yes it is going to take effort. But it is so worth it!

Now you may be asking, Robb I get that I have to become a recruiter but once I have recruited people how do I get them growing and duplicating into a powerful team?
Great question and it leads us to the next component to building successful network marketing downline…
#2 – Lead by Example
One of the most powerful things you can ever do when building an downline is to lead by example.
Yes tell them what to do, train them how to, do it but than also show them you are doing it as well.
Build a culture within your organization that prospecting and recruiting is what we do here. That is what defines us, that is our method of operation and who we are. We prospect and we recruit big time!
You accomplish this not just by training and talking about it but by doing it yourself AND sharing that with your team.
Share with them how many people you prospected today. Have the others leaders on your team share with them how many new people they prospected.
Share your results. When you enroll new people make sure you share that. Share when other members of the team enroll new people.
Let them see that you are practicing what you preach.
People will follow you and do what you instruct them to if they see you are doing it to. That you are in the trenches with them.
Your business will grow much faster and become much stronger if you do this.
#3 – Use Tools to Train People
OK when it comes to training it is imperative that you use 3rd party tools.
Again what is the #1 skill set you need to develop to be successful in network marketing?
Yup Recruiting… not teaching… not hand holding… not managing… Recruiting!
So you do not want to get bogged down being Mr. Trainer. Your time is to valuable.
You must use tools to train your team.
When you recruit someone new into your business, yes you love them and yes you make sure they are taken care of, but you do not spend hours and hours training them yourself. You don’t have the time and if you try you are taking time away from the number one thing you need to be doing… Recruiting!
Set Up These Tools for Training
Team Website – You definitely want to create a training website. I prefer the step by step sites. Sites that will show someone the first step to take, then the next step and so on and so forth thru the training.
Let your website explain everything they need to do and how to do it.
Create a Newsletter – Have a newsletter sign up link on the site. When they first sign up have a series of “Getting Started” messages that go out to them once a day over the course of 7 – 10 days reiterating what the training site says they need to do to get started.
A newsletter is also a great way to keep your team up to date on any announcements, trainings, events, etc.
Weekly Training Call – Next what I recommend you do is have a weekly team training call. There is something about a live training call that brings the team together and makes them feel a part of something big.
Bring on your top leaders each week and have them train on how to recruit and build the business.
Facebook Groups – Next set up a Facebook group just for team members.
Use this to keep the team engaged. Build a culture in it. Love on them. Provide tips and trainings to them in there.
I would not recommend having a group as the training site. I see more and more teams doing this and I do not like it as the material cannot be presented in a straight forward manner like it can be on a training site. It can get too busy and people get lost and confused as to where to start and what to do.
But a Facebook group is definitely a great way to keep people engaged, connected and make them feel a part of something. Which is a very important factor when building a network marketing team.
The main thing to understand here is that it is crucial to your success that you have systems train your people as you do not have the time to do so, which leads us directly into the last component we are going to look at today…
#4 – Work with the 20%
We have all heard the 80/20 rule. The rule that states that 80% of your business will be as a result of 20% of your people. Which mean that 20% of your team will create 80% of the growth.
And the opposite is true as well. 80% of your people will only create 20% of the growth.
This is a general principle in business but does it ever shine through in Network Marketing. It will blow your mind as you build your organization how you will be able to see this principle at work.
So when it comes to building your downline you simply do not have the time to spend working and training with the 80%. You need to use the training tools we just talked about handle them for you.
What you want to do is spend your time with the 20%. Work closely with the people who are going for it in a big way.
The cream will rise to the top.
It will not take you long to figure out who a 20 percenter is. They will become your leaders. They will become a big part of the reason your organization grows and duplication occurs.
This is an important concept of team building that you need to grasp.
