If you are trying to figure out How to Build a Multi Level Marketing Business, you have come to the right place my friend. One of the major problems with the MLM industry is that most people have no idea how to get started or what they need to be doing to build their business.
I truly believe this is one of the main reasons the failure rate is so high; people simply have no idea how to build their business correctly.
My goal with this blog has been to provide you my fellow networkers with everything I have learned over the years in regards to how to build a very successful business.
I Got Lucky
I was lucky early on to be trained by some of the very best in this industry and due to the training I received, I was able to realize the success I did so quickly. Where most people take years if ever at all to create a 6 figure income I was able to do that in 8 months. I attribute that to the training I received along with a determination to make things happen.
The determination is the piece of the puzzle I cannot give you. That you will have to muster up yourself.
As the old saying goes: “you can take a horse to water but you can’t make him drink”.
I can give you the tools and instruction that I know works but it is up to you to put what you learn into action and continue taking action until you make it. Nobody can do that for you but you.
Alrighty than… enough of the little pep talk, let’s get into the goods!
Step #1 – Easier to Build Fast than Slow
One of the first things I learned early on is that building a multi level marketing business was a lot easier to build fast than it was slow.
You see starting out in this business is very much like pushing a boulder up a mountain. It is tough to get that boulder up that hill and it takes a lot of energy.
But once you get it to the top and it starts to roll down the other side it takes nowhere near as much, if any energy from you to keep it moving. Maybe a little push to the left or right to keep it moving in the right direction, but the momentum it creates on its own is going to keep it rolling.
So the key is to get that boulder up that mountain as fast as you can.
And that is accomplished by putting as much energy in at the beginning as you can.
If you simply do a little bit of work here and there it is going to take forever to get the boulder up that mountain. But if you give it a big burst of energy right out of the gates things will start to take off for you much quicker.
Very much like a rocket ship taking off. The majority of the energy is spent at launch.
You want to launch or re-launch your business with a big bang!
This is how I created success so quickly.
I literally created a list of over 250 people and blasted through them in under 1 week. I found my first bunch of team members and got them going in the same way and we created serious momentum quickly! I got that boulder to the top of the mountain quickly and the ride down the other side was incredible!
Step #2 – Start With Your Warm Market
Don’t be one of those people who is afraid to share their opportunity with the people they already know.
Most self-employed people regardless of the business they are in start with the people they know; it is not unique to just the MLM industry.
My girl friend just became license as a Realtor, guess what? She is starting her business off by letting the people she already knows, know about her business. Most businesses do.
You need to get it in your head that you are not heading out to harass or bother people; you are simply sharing what you are doing with them in order to see if it is something, they might be interested in also.
There are whole hosts of reasons to start with your warm market.
The top three reasons are:
- It is simple
- It works
- And it duplicates.
Simple – There is no simpler way to build your business than asking the people you know if they are open to taking a look at what you are doing.
Some people want to jump right into working the cold market I.e. the people they don’t know. Yes the cold market is important and there is a time and place for it in your business, but it takes more work, time, effort and it is not as simple by any means as your warm market.
It Works – I know it works and that it works well because it worked for me in a big way and it worked for many people on my team and in my company. Yes you have to go about it the right way, but if you do so it can create a serious business for you.
It Duplicates – Duplication is the buzz word in the MLM industry. It is the magic sauce to any successful organization. In fact any time you are looking at a recruiting method you need to ask yourself not whether the method works, but whether it will duplicate.
Which means will other people on my team be able to do it successfully?
If the answer is no than you should be careful about using it yourself. The serious income checks in this industry are built by being able to create a large organization or downline.
This can only be accomplished if other people on your team are able to have success also.
The warm market is very duplicatable, anyone on your team can check in with the people they know to see if they are open to looking at an opportunity. An 8-year old has the skill set to do so.
The Best Way to Approach Your Warm Market
Out of all of the strategies, I have seen and used for approaching your warm market the best one is to simply ask them to do you a favor and check out what you are doing.
Yup just cut to the chase!
Sit down and come up with a list of everyone you know. Don’t prejudge them, just get names and phone numbers on paper.
Yup phone numbers. You must call these people. Do not cheat yourself by texting, emailing or private messaging on social media, pick up the phone!
You can use social media and emails to secure their phone numbers, but when it comes to asking them to look at your opportunity an actual call needs to be made.
Once your list is made, just sit down and start smiling and dialing.
Once you have them on the phone just tell them you started a new business and would like for them to do you a favor and take a look at it.
Example: “Hey John, how’s things? Listen I’m giving you a call because I just became involved in a new internet business and wanted to get you to do me a favor and check it out”.
Tip: Notice I said internet business, everyone is intrigued by the thought of making money online. And if you use the strategies I explain later in this blog post you literally do have an internet business.
That’s it, don’t complicate it.
Most people will say sure they will take a look.
Some people will ask you what it is. Simply tell them you too new at it and would mess it all up, but you have a short video they can take a look at.
Hardly any of your warm market will say no to checking it out. If they do, thank them and move on.
Give Them Information & Follow Up
With the people who say they will take a look, ask them when they will be able to, provide them with some information via a 3rd
party tool like a website, webinar, conference call, etc.
Then set a time to follow up with them and make sure you do.
Most networkers mess both of these parts up.
Instead of giving them the information through a 3rd
party tool they try to do all of the selling and telling themselves. Don’t do this, If you do you will lose.
Always remember that nobody wants to be sold to and nobody wants to think they will have to sell.
If your prospect thinks you are trying to convince them to join they are gone. And if your prospect thinks that if they join they will have to sell to their friends they are also gone.
Let the tools do the talking for you.
And be sure to follow up!!
I would wager that close to 70 – 80% of network marketers never follow up with their prospects.
This blows my mind. They go through all of the hard work of getting someone to agree to looking at an opportunity and than never follow up with them.
Don’t let this happen to you. Even if your prospect looks at the information and is interested, they are not going to contact you wanting to join. Life gets in the way and they will let it slide.
The fortune truly is in the follow up.
Step #3 – How to Move to the Cold Market
OK my friend there are two important things to keep in mind when it comes to success in the MLM industry.
The first is that this is truly a numbers game.
The more people you share your opportunity or product with the more people are going to join or buy.
It is as easy as that. Your business is kinda like the house in Vegas, they control the numbers and as a result win and so can you with your business.
Play the numbers, control the numbers. The more people you talk to the more people are going to join your business.
Prospecting is like a big funnel, the more you put in the top the more will come out the bottom.
The second important thing to understand is that top earners in this business are professional recruiters.
It is what we do here, we recruit.
In fact, if you are not sponsoring new reps onto your team monthly your business is failing.
I do not care if you are a 6 or 7 figure income earner or someone who is only making $500 per month. If you are not sponsoring new reps your business is going backwards!
Your goal is to get good are recruiting.
The GREAT news is it is not a hard thing to get good at. Anyone can learn the skill set.
The Recruiting Process Made Easy
Here is all that is involved in recruiting:
You meet new people on a regular basis
You develop a relationship with the new people aka become friends
When the timing is right in the relationship, you ask them if they are open to taking a look at your opportunity. (the timing will be different for each person you meet, you will know it when it is right).
You provide them with information on your opportunity via a 3rd party tool
You follow up and collect their decision.
If they are ready to go, you sign them up right than and there.
That is it my friend! There is no selling involved. There is no convincing involved.
Just meet people, become friends and see if they are open to taking a look!
It is an extremely simple business model!
Where to Meet New People
The next question that you are probably asking is where do I meet new people on a regular basis.
And it is a great question.
But you might not like the answer.
People are everywhere!
You can literally walk out of your house and head down the street and meet people, it just depends on how hungry you are and how bad you want it.
Now having said that I for one do not run around my town prospecting strangers, many people do and have great success doing so, it is just not my style.
I prefer to use the following 3 methods:
Living My Life
When I am out doing what I usually do in the run of a day, I keep my eyes open for opportunities to meet sharp people.
I could be out at my kid’s basketball game and I simply make a small effort to talk to and meet some of the other parents of the kids on the team.
I might go to a chamber of commerce meet and greet and simply get to know people.
Or if I am invited to party I just act like a normal person and meet new people.
You can meet people at work, play, sports, the gym, etc etc.
I am not saying run around and prospect these people, I am saying just meet them. Talk to them. Get to know them.
TIP: When I meet someone, I always add them on social media afterwards and send them a quick private message.
Social media allows you to speed up the relationship building process and is an excellent prospecting and business building tool for multi-level marketers.
And it just so happens that it is also my 2nd method of meeting new people.
Social Media Money Machine
Social media literally is a money machine for people in our industry.
Talk about a game changer.
However, we have become so familiar with social media we at times cannot see the forest for the trees.
We get complacent with it and don’t really recognize the powerful prospecting tool that it is.
Just stop and think about what you literally have available at your fingers tips with social media. You literally have access to millions and millions of people.
It is a network marketer’s dreams scenario. Prospects everywhere.
Yes, most definitely, there is a right way and a wrong way to use social media and unfortunately most people are doing it all wrong.
There is something weird that happens when a home based business owner logs into social media, they go all spammy on everyone.
They go from being a normal person and turn into a walking, talking spammy machine.
If you are doing that stop now. If you are simply blasting your company and product, links everywhere stop. If you are soliciting complete strangers stop. By do these things and more you are shooting yourself in the foot, and preventing yourself from ever becoming a success.
I have tons of training on this blog to help you learn how to use this strategy the right way; I recommend that you take the time to learn this method because it is a serious game changer if done correctly.
On top of social media, the internet has also provided us with the ability to be able to do online marketing.
Online marketing involves strategies such as blogging, paid ads on google and social media, video marketing, email marketing, etc.
This method is a catch 22. It has its great benefits but it also has its down falls.
The major down fall is that it is not duplicatable. Not many people on your team will be able to or will want to do internet marketing; which is referred to as attraction marketing in our industry.
The reason for this is that it takes quite a long time before you will see any results using this method.
Anywhere from 12 – 18 months is very common. Most people simply will not stick around that along. It also has a steep learning curve and it costs some money to implement.
But When You Master It!
However, the benefit of this method is that when you do start getting traction with it and start seeing results big things will start to happen for your business.
If done correctly you will start to generate highly targeted leads who are not just interested in learning about your business but will in many cases actually reach out to you wanting to learn about your business.
What I recommend is if this method is of interest to you, do it as an add on to the core activities we discussed, i.e. warm market, living life and social media. Do not do it instead of those methods.
Focus 70% of your time on the core methods, let your team see you being focused on them and getting results with them. Then with no more than 30% of your time start to learn and implement attraction marketing.
If you can do this than it is a win win situation for you.
