Since you are reading or looking into “how to build a downline” clearly you are in the network marketing or MLM industry. And as such let me say hello and welcome my fellow enlightened business builder.
There simply is no better business model on the planet available to the everyday person who is looking to create an incredible lifestyle.
Although there are great business models out there another opportunity like network marketing simply does not exist.
One that will allow someone to invest 2 -3 hours a day for a year to two and create the tremendous levels of wealth and freedom that are possible here.
But enough of the rah rah as you already know this or why would you be looking into how to build a downline?
In today’s post my goal is to give you enough information to help you get a good understanding of how you can become a success in your business and then I will point you to other training’s that will help you master the skills and principles we are going to discuss.
OK good stuff, let’s get at it.
3 Factors to Building a Successful Network Marketing Business
There are 3 key factors that you must master in order to be successful in this industry.
Which is pretty cool when you think about it. Most high paying professions require you to master a whole heck of a lot more than just 3 things.
It is part of why this industry is so great… it is simple! It actually has to be simple in order for people to have success, and it is designed that way.
The 3 factors you must master when learning how to build a downline and a successful business are:
- Team Building
Let’s take a look at each of them…
#1 – Master Yourself
You should definitely check that out, as it reveals the 4 main reasons people fail and how to avoid them.
One of the main reasons is that people do not do the work required to become a success. They want the large reward that is possible but they are not willing to put the time or effort into achieving it.
When they do not do the work required to become a success and they end up having little to no success as a result they get discouraged, frustrated and they quit.
Do not be that person.
Success in this business is very possible for you. Building a large organization that pays you a tremendous residual income check is very possible for you. And it can be done in 2 – 4 years.
If you Master Yourself…
- You have to become self motivated.
- You have to become self disciplined.
- You can not let yourself quit when you get discouraged.
- You have to make yourself do the work daily.
- You can not let doubts and excuses get you off track.
- You need to make a rock solid commitment to yourself that you are doing this. You are not going to quit ever.
- You must allow yourself the time to learn the skill sets required to become a success and that you are going to put those skill sets into action each and every day regardless of how you feel.
The people who can master themselves are the people who make it in network marketing. They are the people that build massive downlines that pay them and their family for years to come.
Win your battle of the mind!
#2 – Team Building
Team building or downline building is a skill set. A team will not build itself. It requires having a plan in place.
Now you may be fortunate enough to be part of an existing team that has an upline who already has all of the systems in place for you to plug your team into.
But if not you will have to develop those systems yourself.
And the truth is as you start to grow and build your own downline you will most likely want to break away from your upline’s systems and start creating your own. Which is the natural progression of any successful network marketer.
So what is involved in team building?
Let Your Team Members Be Who They Are
I am a driver. I work very hard and am very determined and my goals are very lofty. I want to achieve it all.
My guess is that since you are reading this blog post and investing in yourself by doing so that you have very high goals also.
Which is great!
But the thing you need to keep in mind is that you are not like the majority of people out there.
The majority of people do not have the same desire to achieve the high levels of success this business can provide.
Some people would be happy just having their product paid for monthly.
Some people would be ecstatic making an extra $500 – $1000 per month.
Believe it or not some people join and stay involved just because they like to be a part of something.
They love the product, the personal development aspect of the business, the upbeat and positive vibes associated with the business and they like being part of a team and really don’t care if they make much money if any.
And yes some people will have the same desire and goals to create the 6 & 7 figure income that you do.
It is crucial to your success that you let them be who they are.
Do not try and turn someone who wants to earn $500 per month into someone who wants to earn $50,000 per month. If you do you will scare people off, you will chase them away.
Let them be them and embrace and work with them where they are.
Put Systems in Place
Successful downline building is found in your ability to get a large group of people performing simple activities consistently over a long period of time.
This is achieved by having systems in place that they can plug into.
There are two types of systems you need to have…
- Training System
- Recruiting Systems
Train Your Team in Groups
Create systems to train your distributors how to build the business. You can not train everyone on the team individually one on one, you need systems that will train them in groups.
When someone joins the business plug them into the system to get trained and up and running with their business quickly.
Personally I like to have a team training website that walks them step by step through the process. Step 1 we do this, Step 2 do this, etc.
One of the steps is to sign up for a newsletter. A newsletter is key to keep people up to date on what is happening with the company as well as providing ongoing training.
Another step is to make them aware of the weekly team training call. Every week have a call where you bring on other leaders and business builders and share training and testimonials on what is working.
I also recommend a weekly get started call. This call is for new distributors and teaches them how to launch their business and get started right.
Another system for training that is working very well these days are Facebook groups for your team. This group is only for team members.
Create a FB group where your leaders provide training and tips daily and also answer any questions people have. It is a great way to build culture, keep people motivated and on track.
Create Recruiting Systems and Tools
In the next success factor we are going to look at how recruiting is paramount to your success.
Bringing in new distributors to your team monthly is the only way a downline grows.
And you can not do it all on your own. Your team must be recruiting and sponsoring new reps as well.
Successful recruiting is accomplished by using what are called 3rd party tools.
A 3rd party tool is anything that shares the opportunity and product with your prospect other than you.
This is the magic behind successful recruiting. The tools do all of the selling and telling for you.
Most people are not good at selling and most people do not want to sell.
Which means we have to have tools that do this for us.
A 3rd party tool could be:
- A video presentation of your opportunity or product.
- A website with a guided tour of the business
- A webinar
- A hotel or home meeting
- And again a Facebook group, but this time it is designed for prospects and provides them with all of the information they need to make a decision if the opportunity or product is for them.
- 3 way calls with your upline and the prospect where your upline answers all of your prospects questions is a very powerful 3rd party tool; as is a group chat on Facebook with upline members and your prospect.
Put these systems into place for your team and train them on how to use them and you will create tremendous duplication which will result in the serious growth of your organization.
#3 – Master the Skill of Recruiting
I love recruiting and so should you!
In the end recruiting is the one skill set that can literally set you up for life. If you can get good to great at sponsoring 3 – 10 reps each month into your business then you are going to build a huge downline and residual income check.
And here is the great news…
Recruiting is not hard. It is a very simple process when you learn how to do it correctly.
Anyone with determination and commitment to working 2-3 hours per day on their business can most definitely recruit 3 – 10 new reps monthly.
People love to over complicate what is involved in accomplishing this. Don’t do that. Again it is simple.
All we do when it comes to recruiting is 4 things:
- Meet new people on a daily basis
- Make friends with those people (build rapport)
- Ask them if they are open to looking at an opportunity.
- Following up and collecting a decision from the people who looked at your opportunity.
That is all there is to it.
