One of the problems I see in this industry is that way too many people get all messed up in the head trying to figure out how to be successful with network marketing. And as a result they get frustrated and quit.
Which is a shame because in reality the activities required to become successful are actually quite simple. I did not say they are easy but if done right they are definitely simple and anyone can do them.
The hard part is making yourself do them consistently as well as learning how to deal with the rejection that is a big part of this business.
In this post I am going to show you exactly what you need to do to become a success in your network marketing business starting today.
We are going to cover the 3 areas that you need to understand and get good at.
I will discuss them briefly in this post and also point you to other posts on this blog that go into further detail on how you can master them.
Let’s get at’ it…
#1 – Get Your Head Right
Step one is to get your head right. Most people who join this business really have no idea the opportunity they now have or what is involved in making it work.
When most people join they do so under the false impression that making money in this thing is going to be easy. They are told if they just go sponsor 2 people those people will go sponsor 2 people and so on and so forth forever and success will be inevitable.
That is clearly not how it works.
This is an opportunity where every day people can go on to create extraordinary success. Create 6 & 7 figure incomes and create a lifestyle that most people can only dream about.
Now you would think that anything that can provide you with that sort of future people would realize is going to take work, effort and time to achieve.
But it is wild to me how many people don’t seem to grasp that.
Of course it is going to take work. Of course you are going to have to put in a lot of time and energy to make it happen. Of course there are going to be set backs and frustrations.
Of course you are going to have to sacrifice TV time. Yes you are going to have to go to work on your business when you get home from your job.
This is the problem, most people want the lifestyle without the work required to get it. They get home from their day job and just want to zone out on the couch like a zombie watching TV instead of going to work on their home based business.
Nothing worthwhile in life is Free. It’s simply not how it works.
It’s Not Free But it’s Not Hard Either
Now having said that, network marketing is the best way for everyday people to create wild levels of success. And the activities you need to engage in to be successful are not hard. In fact they are simple.
But you have to do them.
The fact is that anyone with desire, commitment and a hard work ethic can go onto see massive success in network marketing working 10 – 15 hours a week at it.
You are going to get rejection, it is part of the process and is what it is. You will always get way more people saying No to your business then Yes. To quote the late and great Jim Rohn “It is just the way it is”.
But what is cool is your only job is to find people who say Yes! All you have to do to be successful in network marketing is get good at finding people to ask if they are open to looking at your business.
That is it. Yes it is not easy, but it is simple!
Yes you are going to get a lot of people who tell you no, BUT you only need a few to tell you yes and you will create a very profitable business. And finding people to ask if they are open to taking a look is simple! Especially with the strategies I am going to share with you today.

#2 – Building a Team
Success in network marketing is not something you can accomplish on your own. There is no way you can make it to the top of the compensation plan by yourself.
You need a team!
The key to your success in network marketing is to get a large group of people to perform simple activities over a long period of time.
There are 3 components to that equation:
- Get a large group of people.
- Performing simple activities.
- Over a long period of time.
So how do you get a large group of people, i.e. your team? That is prospecting and recruiting and we are going to cover that later in this post.
So once you have that team (large group of people), how do you get them performing simple activities over a long period of time and what are these simple activities?
Understand Who Makes Up Your Team
First you need to understand the different types of people who will make up your team.
Your downline is going to have people in it who are just happy to be a part of the organization who just love being associated with the group.
There will be people who just want to make enough money per month to have their product paid for.
There will be others who are happy making $500 or $1000 per month.
And then a small percentage of your team, about 20% will be the go getters, the people who are going after the 6 & 7 figure incomes.
The key is to let them be who they are. Do not try to turn a $500 a month person into a $10,000 a month person.
Work with your team where they are at and let them be who they are.
The second step is to have systems in place that allow anyone to succeed. This creates what is known as duplication.
The Magic of Duplication
As I said there is no way you can be a success on your own in network marketing. You need your team members to be able to build the business as well.
Creating duplication is how this is accomplished. Duplication is created by keeping the business activities simple. This is a part-time business and a volunteer army.
They have to be able to build it around their busy lives or you will never see any growth.
Any prospecting or recruiting activity must be one that the person with the least amount of skills on your team can do.
You want to have a baseline line strategy that everyone on the team does…
When someone joins your team they go through the training. They come to quickly understand that “this” is what we do on this team. This is how the business is built.
Have a get started training call, team training sites, weekly team calls and Facebook groups that all reinforce how the business is built and that also create community and culture.
Work in groups with the 80% of your downline who are responsible for 20% of the growth. Let the 80% be the 80%. Keep the business building activities very simple but effective.
The cream will rise to the top…
The 20% who are your serious builders will make themselves known. This group will be responsible for 80% of the growth of your team. They are your leaders. Devote individual time with them and teach them how to build their own team which in turn grows yours.
And of course one of the biggest parts of growing your network marketing team is prospecting and recruiting which we are going to look at next…
Focus on Getting Very Good At Prospecting
If you really want to become successful with network marketing then learning the skill set of prospecting is where you want to focus most of your time.
Now I did say that you cannot be successful all on your own in this industry and that you need a team and that is very true…
BUT if all you ever did was recruit new distributors and you got very good at it so that you were sponsoring 5 – 10 a month, then there is no question that you would become a huge success in your company regardless of whether or not you focused on the team building aspect.
The reason for this is that again the cream will rise to the top. If you do not focus on team building you are going to have a ton of people quit… BUT you will have people who figure it out on their own. You will recruit leaders who go out and build a large team.
Now this is NOT the way to build a business but it makes my point that prospecting is the number one skill set to develop.
And when you combine being an excellent recruiter along with building a team you will be unstoppable.
When the light bulb came on that all I needed to do to become a success in this industry was to get good at prospecting I got very excited.
Simply learn 1 more skill and live the life of your dreams. How cool is that?
You have already learned countless skills in the course of your life and all you need to do is learn one more skill. And it is a skill that anyone can get good enough at to become a success in this industry.
Yes it takes time and effort. And yes you will have frustrations. But it is possible and it is so worth it.

Warm market – I do recommend that you start with your warm market and build in into your team culture that this is what everyone does starting out.

Living life – This is an offline strategy that simply makes sense to have everyone on your team engage it.
As its name sounds, you do it while you are simply living your life in a normal fashion. It is very simple to do and will give you an extra 10 – 20 new prospects monthly.

Next I recommend you take your prospecting online to social media and at the time I am writing this blog post Facebook is the best social media platform to use.
There are two methods of using social media. There is a direct method and a passive method.
The Direct Method – This is what I call a burn and turn method. You are working the numbers and prospecting large numbers of people. You are going through lots of No’s from prospects in order to find the people who will say Yes.
It requires thick skin but it is simple and it works.

The Passive Method – This strategy focuses on building rapport with your prospect.
You work on creating influence over them. They come to know, like and trust you as well as look up to you and admire you. And because you have created this with them, when you ask them to look at your opportunity they take your request very seriously.

The next one is without a doubt my all-time favorite method of recruiting.
Attraction Marketing – This strategy puts the “marketing” back into network marketing. This method is responsible for showing countless people how to be successful in network marketing and is what all of the big time leaders in the industry use.
Just as its name sounds, you use internet marketing techniques to attract your prospects to you. Meaning they actually reach out to you and contact you looking for information about your business.
How much easier do you think that makes building a business? It takes a while to get to that point but when you do it is a game changer.
