There are two components required to build a network marketing team. The first is becoming very good at prospecting and recruiting new distributors and the second component is the building of the team itself.
In my opinion learning how to prospect and recruit is the most important of the two. This is because even if you never work with anyone you recruit eventually you are going to find leaders, go getters who are going to build the business with or without you.
Now of course this would be a stupid way to do network marketing but it makes my point that recruiting is very important.
In fact if you want big time success in this industry you need to understand that you will always be recruiting for your whole career. I once heard Dani Johnson say the following:
“It does not matter if you are making $1000 per month in your business or $100,000 per month, if you are not recruiting new reps monthly your business is going backwards”
So today I am going to share with you two methods I recommend you use for prospecting and recruiting and I am going to point you to post to learn what to do with your new recruits and team members.
Let’s get into it…
2 Methods of Prospecting Successfully
When it comes to prospecting and building a successful network marketing team there are two methods that I recommend you and your team engage in as they both work very well and are duplicatable.
The two methods are active prospecting and passive prospecting which is marketing.
Active prospecting is where you are actively reaching out to a prospect to see if they are open to looking at your opportunity.
Passive prospecting or marketing is where you are creating a piece of content such as a blog post, video or Facebook Live etc with the hope that someone down the road will locate it and be attracted to you and what you have to offer.
Both methods work well and you should use both in conjunction with each other.
Let’s take a look at how each works…
How to Actively Prospect New Distributors
The best method at this time is to use social media to find new prospects and develop relationships with them.
You can use this strategy on any of your favorite social media platforms.
You first want to determine who your target market is. Who do you want to build a network marketing team with. What type of people?
The best target market is people like you. People who have the same interests as yourself.
Maybe you are into mountain biking, downhill skiing, entrepreneurship, boating, fitness. The potential target markets are endless.
If you have similarities with your target market it is going to make communicating with them and building a team easier. You are going to have things in common and they will relate to you easier which makes messaging back and forth a much simpler process.
How to Locate Your Ideal Prospect
So once you have decided who your target market is finding them is a straight forward process.
Do a search on your favorite social media platform for groups and pages based around your target markets interests.
If mountain bikers are your chosen target market search for 3 -5 groups where they would hang out.
You want to make sure the groups are active. People are engaging in them on a daily basis. The members appear up beat and are the type of person you would want on your team.
Approaching Your Target Market
With the active approach all you are going to do is go into these groups daily and look for people who would make a good prospect.
When you find one send them a message.
Don’t beat around the bush, let them know how you are connected, and why you are reaching out to them.
You could say something like:
“Hey Frank, I know we don’t know each other but we are both members of So&So; group, I like your comment you made about blah blah, I noticed you are from NY, I am actually looking to expand my business into NY and I thought I would reach out to you to see if you would be open to taking a look at an opportunity, I have know idea if it would be for you or not, but I thought I would check. If you’re open to take a look I can send you some information, if not no worries”.
That is all! Keep it simple, and get straight to the point.
To get a higher response rate you can comment on one of the comments they made in the group letting them know you sent them a message.
This is a Numbers Game
So this strategy is 100% a numbers game. You are working the numbers to weed through the uninterested people in order to find those who are open to taking a look.
Do not get hung up on the people who are not interested, thank them and move on.
Set a goal of how many people you will contact daily and stick to it.
Now let’s take a look at how to passively recruit new distributors….
How to Passively Recruit New Distributors
Many people in our industry focus on the active side of prospecting but are missing out on a huge opportunity to recruit more distributors by including passive marketing into their daily method of operation.
There are similarities with passive and active prospecting and they work well together.
With passive you again want to choose a target market and you also want to go find the groups and pages they hang out in.
The difference is that you are now going to put content out into the groups and on your page.
The content is going to be value based. Which means educational, insightful, informative and entertaining.
The contents is going to be based on what your target market would find interesting. So sticking with the mountain biking example you could post tips, trainings, thoughts on how to mountain bike, best places to mountain bike, best equipment, etc.
As you post this content people are going to come to see you as an expert in the area of mountain biking, they are going to start following you and adding you as a friend. They will start to reach out to you.
They will start to engage on your content on your profile and you should engage on theirs. You are developing rapport and know, like and trust is being formed.
How to Transition to Your Network Marketing Business
There are a couple of ways you can transition to your business.
These Facebook people have now become very warm prospects as they are looking up to you. You are a person of value to them.
So the first way you can transition to your business is to simply message them and ask them if they are open to taking a look at it. You are going to get a lot more of these people saying yes that they are open to taking a look as compared to the active method because you have warmed them up with a relationship.
The second method you can transition to your business is by doing what are called curiosity posts.
A curiosity post is where you off handedly or subtly mention your opportunity or product without mention it by name.
You want to create curiosity with your prospects. What is it that Robb is doing. What is this side business he is building? What is this product he is taking? Why won’t he say it by name??
When you do this correctly people start reaching out to you asking you what you are doing.
An example of a curiosity post for a weight loss product could be you taking a drink of a shake or swallowing down a pill and saying wish me luck, I have decided to lose those last 20lbs, my friend lost 25lbs on it, here we go.
Don’t mention the product. People are going to like your post, some are going to wish you luck, others are going to ask what it is you are doing. Send them private messages.
Say something like I saw your comment on my post, thanks for that. If you are open to seeing the program I am starting I can send you some information.
You can do the same thing with your business.
Let people know you are starting a new side gig, you are ready to start making some extra money and have a buddy who is crushing it. Let them know you are pretty excited and to wish you luck.
Then moving forward simply update people with future curiosity posts. I’ve lost 5 lbs so far. I made my first sale. Post success stories of others. Post pictures of you at training events, etc. Get creative.
How & When to Post
So there is definitely a formula for posting.
Do no more than 3 posts for day. Spread them out throughout the day. 5 – 6 hours apart.
For every 10 posts you make you should do 6 of them as value based posts where you are educating your followers.
4 of them should be lifestyle posts where you are letting people see into your life. You out having fun with friends and family, doing fun stuff.
Then you can do 1 curiosity post about your business.
Follow what you just learnt and you will be build a network marketing team in no time. Now once you have a team it is important to know what to do with them.
Here are two posts where you can learn more about these strategies:
The following are two posts I recommend you read and understand. Use what you learn to help you get your new team members moving and duplication happening:
And there you have it my friend all you need to know to get you started building your network marketing team.
The last thing I would recommend is a strategy that really puts the “marketing” back into network marketing. We call it Attraction Marketing. It is a higher level prospecting method, it does have a learning curve associated with it, but it is what ALL of the top leaders in the industry are using and when you get it going it is a game changer. You will create an endless supply of prospects wanting to work with you.
Cheers my friend
