First off good for you for taking the initiative of looking into how to advertise a network marketing opportunity. That tells me that if you are ready to invest money that you are serious about your business and understand the importance of generating leads and getting customers.
Too many people in network marketing think they can just sign up a couple of people and they are going to end up with a huge team under them paying them big bucks forever. Clearly this is not how it goes.
Success in this business is achieved by finding ways of generating leads for your business and product on a regular basis for as long as it takes.
The Truth about Advertising
Now one thing you will come to know about me is that I am a very straight shooter. I tell it like it is.
And when it comes to advertising your network marketing opportunity I will tell you that you are wasting your time and money. Advertising the opportunity or the company simply does not work and is a very bad idea.
How do I know this?
Because I have been around and I have done it all. I have done advertising and I have lost money doing it.
I have run ads in newspapers and on the radio. I have done direct mailing.
You might generate a few leads, but the cost to generate them is way too high and in most cases’ the people you bring in are not serious and they quit and there goes the money you spent on ads.
Online advertising is no better…
Google does not let you run network marketing or home based business ads on their ad network and Facebook most definitely does not either.
Now that is the bad news, the good news is there is a much better option available to you when it comes to generating leads and advertising.
The Smarter Strategy is Called Attraction Marketing.
Attraction Marketing is a strategy where you promote yourself verses promoting or advertising the company you are with.
Here is why this is such an important concept.
Traditionally networkers would promote or advertise a network marketing opportunity. If someone was interested in the business they would sign them up.
But as good as that sounds there is a big problem with it…
You see what happens is that new person you spent all of the effort and in some cases’ money to locate, prospect and recruit now becomes a customer and business builder of the network marketing company itself.
They are not your customer.
The company now owns the rights to them. Yes they give you a commission for finding them and royalties for every order they make in the future.
But… if you leave the company for whatever reason that person stays with the company.
If the company goes out of business you have to start all over again looking for new people to recruit into any new business you join.
If the company changes their compensation plan that can affect how you are paid for that person and their activity.
If the company terminates your distributorship (which happens more than you think) the person you recruited stays with the company; as they are not your customer they are the companies.
Promote YOU Inc. Instead
But all of that changes when you build using attraction marketing; this is because instead of promoting and advertising the company you promote yourself.
You build YOU Inc.
You build a business based on a brand that is built around you, not the company.
The following example is the best way to explain what I mean.
Let’s say you are in a health and wellness company…
Instead of promoting or advertising the company’s product what you would do is promote and advertise yourself as a Health and Wellness expert.
You would build a brand based around yourself being an authority in the health and wellness industry.
You become known as someone who knows what they are talking about when it comes to nutrition, exercise and weight loss.
As someone who helps people achieve their health and wellness, fitness and weight loss goals.
As you build this brand around yourself using attraction marketing strategies you are going to attract people to you. People are going to start following you and becoming fans of yours.
You will gain influence over these people. They will come to know, like and trust you. They will respect your opinion.
Then of course when you have this type of influence with your fans and followers, when you recommend your network marketing opportunities product to help them lose weight, or get healthier they are going to buy it.
But now instead of being associated to the company they are associated to you. They are your customers. They are your fans. They belong to you.
It is a game changer!
How to Promote The Business Opportunity Instead?
The previous example was if you are product focused and are looking for customers.
But what if you are business opportunity focused and would prefer to advertise a network marketing opportunity instead of the product?
If so the same principles apply and you would do pretty much the exact same thing but instead of becoming the Health and Wellness expert you become the Home Based Business expert.
You brand yourself as being an authority in the home based business arena. People who are looking for ways to make extra money or earn money from home will start to follow you and become fans of you.
You will develop influence over them through your brand of being a business expert.
And when you recommend your network marketing opportunity as being an option for them to make money they are going to take your recommendation seriously and many will join..
This Sounds Great Robb But How Do I Get Started?
Attraction Marketing is basically internet marketing for network marketers. It uses techniques like blogging, video marketing and yes advertising.
It puts the “marketing” back into network marketing.
At the end of this post I will give you a link where you can learn more about how this strategy works and even get started immediately if you wish to.
However, it is important that you understand the following…
I will not lie to you, there is a learning curve associated with this strategy and it does take some time to get some traction where you have leads and customers coming in on a regular basis.
Depending on how much time and money you can allot to this strategy it can take anywhere from 6 – 12 months to see any results from your efforts.
But once you do it is a game changer.
However, in the mean time until the results are coming in and even after they are, I always recommend to everyone if the goal is to build a network marketing team that you should only use this strategy on top of or in addition to the other methods your team trains on.
If you drop all of the active prospecting methods typically used to build a downline your business is going to stall on you because again you are not going to see results from using attraction marketing techniques for some time.
Follow the 70 – 30 Rule
So my advice is spend 70% of your time actively prospecting. Actively going out and meeting people, building relationships with them and asking them if they are open to looking at your business.
